A hearty "fuck yes!" to both The Faint tracks, Sic Transit Gloria, and both Garbage songs there.

Though I'd have added "The Trick Is To Keep Breathing" by Garbage if I was plannin' on sexin' at all that night.

I've made a few love-song collections in my time.

The best one of all time will always be
The Pogues feat. Kirsty MacColl - The Fairy Tale of New York City

and then some other good ones
The Cure - Mint Car
The Cure - Friday I'm In Love
Zwan - El Sol
Zwan - Of A Broken Heart (alternatively, the live version is called, Until I Die of A Broken Heart)
The Smashing Pumpkins - The Crying Tree of Mercury (possibly the most depressing song I like.)
The Smashing Pumpkins - Vanity

and here are some songs I've played and sang for an audience of one:
The Dubliners - Raglan Road (although Sinead O'Connor also has a version of tihs.)
The Pogues - A Pair of Brown Eyes

damn, love as you know it sure does suck.

Wtf is with you people submitting songs about love failing or people being miserable in love? Denial Revisited? Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades? Forever and a Day? Mr FUCKING Brightside?

Is my definition of a "love song" completely off, then?

I mean by that logic Cocaine Blues by Johnny Cash is a love song! it's about a relationship between a woman and a man right? gotta be a love song!

and it goes.

"took a shot of cocaine and i shot my woman down"
(...)
"shot her down because she made me sore
i thought i was her daddy but she had five more"

omgz best love songs ever,

Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix
Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town - Sort Sol
hmm I used to know a whole lot more of love songs where the man kills the woman. Is it odd they were all related to country music.

With Every Light - The Smashing Pumpkins,
one of my favorite songs of the moment

Look Ma the sun is shining on me,
Impatient in love and aching to be,
could you believe in heaven if heaven was all you had?
...
Look ma the sun is shining on me,
taking the time to do as I please
...
The Sun is shining, radiating,
our love we are creating.

Radio-Alkaline trio

"Shaking like a dog shittin' razorblades,
waking up next to nothing after dreaming of you and me
I'm waking up all alone, waking up so relieved
while you're taking your time with apologies,
I'm making my plans for revenge.
Red eyes on orange horizons
If Columbus was wrong I'd drive straight off the edge.
I'd drive straight off the edge.

Taking your own life with boredom,
I'm taking my own life with wine -
it helps you to rule out the sorrow,
it helps me to empty my mind.
Making the most of a bad time
I'm smoking the brains from my head
Leaving the coal calling the kettle black and orange and red
This kettle is seeing red.

I've got a big fat fuckin' bone to pick with you my darling.
In case you haven't heard I'm sick and tired of trying.
I wish you would take my radio to bathe with you,
plugged in and ready to fall.

Shaking like a dog shittin' razorblades,
waking up next to nothing after dreaming of you and me
waking up all alone, waking up so relieved
while you're taking your time with apologies,
I'm planning out my revenge.
Red eyes on orange horizons
If Columbus was wrong I'd drive straight off the edge.
I'm seeing red.

I've got a big fat fuckin' bone to pick with you my darling.
In case you haven't heard I'm sick and tired of trying.

Dude it's not like I'm your gf and you're supposed to make me a love song mix tape... I don't DISAPPROVE of anything. I'm just saying, the songs you previously listed aren't what people would normally classify as love songs. They're more breakup/jealousy/despair songs.

"In Years To Come"

i want to take the bullet,
the one aimed straight for your heart,
i want to meet the wolves halfway,
and let them tear me apart.
but that's not the way they do it here.

i want to lay on the tracks,
feel hot steel screaming at me,
expose the bones on my back,
let me show you what i mean.
yeah its a different kind of love,
i want to climb barbed wire fences
and warm our hands in blood.

and this is my gift,
is asking you to fix
my ruined hands.
and its a gift that keeps on giving,
and its a gift that keeps on giving,
and its a gift that keeps on giving,
and right now its all i have to give.

i want to lay on the tracks,
feel hot steel screaming at me,
expose the bones on my back,
let me show you what i mean
i want to lay on the tracks,
feel hot steel screaming at me,
expose the bones on my back,
let me show you what i mean

i want to write the perfect song,
and play it just for you,
while you are tangled up in sleep.
i need you more than ill ever know
until i stop breathing
my lungs will take you for granted.

The Acoutic version is Alot better

I can't believe we all forgot "Anything, Anything" by Dramarama! A must add.

Yes. Although I'm partial to the Buckcherry cover.

The best love song I've ever heard is "Polyanna" by Sponge. It's really uplifting and the lyrics really convey a lot of passion in a very concise, non-emo band kind of way. Not like that Postal Service shit about the freckles in each other's faces being corresponding puzzle pieces shit cough cough hack hack hack choke die that dumbasses are always quoting in their AIM profiles in three different colors with bold, italics, and underlines applied to strategic words. Are you one of those dumbasses? I hope not. They suck. Why has the goal of love-song writing suddenly become to say a little in a lot of drawn-out words instead of saying a lot in few words? Polyanna does that. "I'll find God for Polyanna, send light to Polyanna, so Polyanna don't feel my misery." It's just about perfect. The only drawback is the fact that Polyanna is such a stupid name for a girl. But I think I might even almost like that about it. Sort of makes me always think of it as a trailer park love song. Like, even if everything else sucks ass, you can still be in love.

AllIn All It's Not So Bad

i'm sorry i bumped this but i agree with these 2
love song would be "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" by the Ramoes

A song about failing or people being miserable in love would be "Needles & Pins" by the Ramones
