View Full Version : This band is not pop!

I listened to Splinter today and read the lyrics and pop is all about happiness
and all that stupid breaking up with GF/BF type of shit. The majority of these
songs on Splinter are actually stuff that you would here on Americana.

Some of the songs sound a little pop but they are actually serious. They
only changed because the 90's is now over. Their new music is still good.

Im only posting this because I hate the topics that say that this band
sounds more like pop these days. Its the Millenium now so who cares.

Sincerely , TRUSTpunk

Pop does not mean Britney Spears. It does not mean top 40 garbage. The Go-Gos were pop. Green Day is pop. Offspring being pop means fuck-all for the spirit of the music.

You guys say pop like it's a fucking insult. It's not. It's a music genre. Pop does not equal bad. The "pop-punk" label fits them nicely, I'd say.

Thank god America Online's music profile is considered the 'end all be all' definition of The Offspring.

Do you believe anything that AOL says? If AOL puts it down like that, it doesn't mean that they ARE pop. Don't get me wrong, I'm ok with the fact that Offspring is pop. But you can't proof it with AOL.

Ummmm. Maybe this topic should close now. This was only my opinion.
I see pop as Britney Spears and all those other singers like that. LateR!

Note: I said in the quoted message that I don't care what any other
person thinks of this band , im just clearing that up that I don't think
they sound like Pop Punk or whatever you would call it.

okay, i see pop as follows:
Britney
Gavin DeGraw
Christina
Mariah Carey

etc.

Therefore, I see Punk as:
The Offspring
Green Day
My Chemical Romance (but a little emo)
etc. etc.

They're a band - call them whatever you want. Call them techno if you really want.... giving them a specific genre doesn't put down the quality of their music. I've always just seen them as a cross between Punk-Pop and Punk-Rock, just because that's what I think and not because other people decided. Now you go and see what you think. Chill with the feuding, kiddies.

Yes, and media player classes Muse as pop - Your point? =| You probably don't see them as fitting as that category, but like I said, just decide for yourself.

I quote my cousin, who lives in Asheville, North Carolina, a city where punks and hippies live together in harmony: "Punks are hippies, they just don't know it." And it's true. They stand up for the same causes, don't they?
Anyway, it doesn't matter what other people say about the Offspring's genre. If you like them, why should it matter? Everyone has their own opinion, so don't worry about it.
My opinion is, they are pop, because "pop" is short for popular. And correct me if I'm wrong, but the Offspring are pretty damn popular.
