View Full Version : What's the song that got you into Offspring?

pretty fly 88

The song that got me into Offspring is Self-Esteem. By the way, as you can tell, one of the choices is "other". I got a lot of complaints on my last poll saying that there were only 4 choices and a lot of people would've voted for songs not on the list. So for this poll, I put an "other", so I don't want people complaining that your song isn't on the list. I apologize for that mistake on my last poll.

First it was the album Smash in 1994, but I lost interest after awhile, and then in 1999 I heard Ixnay and then Americana and I got hooked. It wasn't one individual song for me.

Pretty Fly. In fact I saw WDYGAJ video years ago and I asked myself "who the hell is this fucking fag?". I didn't know that I would love that fag. Anyway about two years later I saw Pretty Fly on TV and I suddenly decided get Americana.

Other because I don't know. My cousin had Americana and I liked it. I only know it wasn't because of their songs that passed on TV, because I don't remember watching The Offspring on TV before I bought Americana or something.
i wuz liek 2 kewl to wotch tvz.

I first got hooked when my friend let me listen to Ixnay, so I guess it would be The Meaning of Life. Or the Disclaimer. Take your pick, since I can't remember...

Why, what's wrong with polls? The songs on this poll are the only songs I've ever heard on the radio by them. If the radio isn't what got you into Offspring, or if you've heard other songs on the radio, just say so. The radio is just about the only way I find out about music, so I didn't expect this many people to vote for "Other".

for me it was really a culmination of all of their early hits. i've always known their tunes since they first hit the radio and then when my brother first got americana and told me that all those songs i knew and loved were from the same band called the offspring, i was hooked. so i guess it all started with come out and play really. but it wasn't until americana that i knew who they were. then my bro got their self-titled and from the moment i heard beheaded, the deal was truly sealed. that was back in '98

i voted self esteem, but there was no song that got me hooked. i heard songs play and i liked it. then later on i found out that ALL of those songs was by the same band - instantly hooked! It was only when i saw original plrankster on tv that i want out and bought all their cds (except self titled - was no where to be found)

the offspring is one of the things that define me.

EDIT: You know, the way the 't' key is situated on the keyboard, when I type 'All I Want' it often comes up as 'All I Wanty.'

I heard Original Prankster when somebody had brought the Single into school, but that didnt really get me into them. What really got me into them was All I Want and Way Down the Line off Crazy Taxi

First Offspring song I heard was Pretty Fly. I know, don't even say it. So I bought the album, and the earlier albums, and I loved it. Now I can't live without them.

Yep. But it's winning with a large advantage... I must admit that the song reintroduced me to The Offspring, and made me even more fanatic. But now, I don't like very much to hear it, it's just too overplayed.

When I played the game Crazy Taxi I liked the songs that they had and I had recognized Dexter's unique voice from songs that I had heard on Kroq before. So when I figured out who the Offspring were I started downloading a couple of their songs and loved them all so I just had to buy their cd's. And that's what started my obsession with the Offspring!

It was in 1999 or so, in time of success of Americana, when I got interested of this band. Video of Pretty fly kicked ass, then there was Why don't you get a job and of course Kids aren't alright. But finally i got hooked when I heard Smash-album from my cousin. He recorded it to me to a cassette, and the songs Come out and play and Self esteem were so great, that I started to buy cd:s from this band. First I got Ixnay on the hombre, then Americana. Now I have every album since Smash. :D

Well i'd heard pretty fly first, i thought it was great, but i wasnt very old.. about 6 i guess, so i wasnt into music. Forgot about them. never got into music until some american said he wanted to get meinto rock music.. he sent me The Kids Arent Alright. Loved it, got me into rock.

Then i went to a mates house for an xbox system link, and he had the offspring greatest hits, went from there and got all the albums. best band ever. Unbeatable.

I did like come out and play when that came out but I didn't know who it was coz I was only like 6 or 7 back then, my sisters room was next door to mine nd she had MTV on all the time when we had satellite. I loved the guitar riff!!!

Also Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) was my first CD ever coz my mate gave me his CD of the single xD before that I just had cassetes and a vinyl record of the simpsons sing the blues xD

The first Song from The Offspring, that I did hear was Prett Fly (For A White Guy) in the year 1998.
My first CD from The Offspring was the Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) Single.
One year later in 1999 I bough the album "Americana".
I am a Offspring-Fan since 1998. :)

well i guess this thread proves that pretty fly wasnt bad at all for the offspring, sure.. it may be a 'joke' song, but its still a dam good song. And most people here got into the offspring by listening to Pretty Fly .. and like me they now love the rest of their stuff.

gotta love it.

well the album that got me into the offspring was smash, when I first heard it in 1994... It's my sister and her friends who got me into the offspring I guess, and they'd probably heard "come out and play" but the song on that album that really got me into the offspring was Genocide, and also Gotta get away oh, and nitro... but genocide is definately the one, don't don't why it's not on that list of yours...
