View Full Version : South Florida's 1ST SOLD OUT Warped Tour!

First off I would like to thank Dexter again for signing an autograph for my girlfriend, Sayeeda! Thanks again 'Fly Whitey'! Well I have never missed a Warped Tour in 11 years. One year I made it to as many as 5 in a row! That year I took my kids to 5 shows. The grandparents, Abuelo & Abuela thought they were at Scout Camp for a second time that summer. Everything went well but you can't imagine my horror when I saw my 13 year old being passed around above the crowd in Panama Beach during a LTJ set! I had left them alone so I could see the Suicide Machines next to the pool. The first Warped Tour show here was at the EDGE in Ft. Lauderdale. The inside was the main stage and the parking lot was the second stage-skate ramp-merch-food area, and the patio was the third stage. It was a tiny venue! Being a veteran of all 11 years of the Warped Tour, this year’s show was the first ever to sell out all tickets before the buses hit the Pompano Beach Amphitheater. Fans outside were beside themselves trying to get a ticket. Fans eventually resorted to jumping the more than one mile long fence surrounding the outside field to get in. I saw none arrested and most of the security personnel had no walkie talkies or way to communicate this to each other. Regardless, most security personnel were inexperienced 'day hired', out of shape, and too tired to care. The day was super hot at 90+ degrees and nearly 100 percent humidity. Bands hate playing outside day shows here in August! When The Offspring took the stage on one of the two side-by-side main stages, the fans totally filled the areas in front of both stages, a sight I have never seen at a Warped Tour! Fans actually filled it up past two parallel rows of merchandising booths. UNREAL! If you couldn't see them, you definitely could hear and feel them! This year, the step-up of the stages here in Pompano, were staged in a different manner to the last two years at the same venue. The last few years the main stages were in front of a "dip" in a field. When it rained it would fill up and most fans would surround the new born lake while watching others mosh in marsh. It was miserable for all of us! I think after many years this low area was filled in. The Offspring show was great. It was a perfect set for the short time allotted to the bands on this kind of tour. I also got the chance to see many bands on the tiny 3rd stage. I remember seeing Blink 182 play the 3rd stage at the Warped tour in Coco Beach in 1995 or 96, I get the years mixed up, but one or two years later they (B-182) were on the main stage. The Warped Tour & Offspring show on 8-6-05 was the last great day of summer for South Florida kids. TODAY, AUG. 8, 2005, IS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL HERE! WE NOW ARE HAVING KIDS GO BACK TO SCHOOL ONE WEEK EARLY! I'm telling you, I couldn't do High School again! I have seen The Offspring many times all over Florida. They put on an incredible show. I just can't wait to see them again. Does anyone have an update on yesterdays ORLANDO FLORIDA SHOW!

Well if you are moving to Florida just remember this;
1) Get ready for the heat & humidity.
2) If you jam at a warehouse or gig out with a band you must clean all your gear as soon as you get in air conditioning. Otherwise your gear will rust!
3) If you come to Miami remember this; most Dade County girls want to see your check book before dating you.
4) If a girl look too good...It's probably a guy! ALWAYS CHECK FOR ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT!
5) South Beach sucks now. It was once run down with rock clubs and cheap hotels. Now it's full of shallow cheap lost souls.
6) Get ready to work all month to be one month behind on bills.
Good luck on your move here and Best Wishes!

Okay; hit me! I didn't know this existed...DUH! I spend too much time on the cymbalholic web site. I need to get out more! Thank to you all! :o [IMG]

EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY! ... No privacy in the restroom. Must be some kinda envy! So I found a quiet place next to the 3rd stage and listened to some thrash and ska bands. Saw and old geezer watching the bands. I said to myself; "That's me at the 30th anniversary of the Warped tour!
'Where's those frigin' grand kids of mine? Hell, at least I'm next to the porta potty' " LOL!

Here's a few pictures of my Turkish raw blanks. Most are 22" , but a few are 15 in blanks for HiHats. The numbers are in grams. The 1st picture is one heavy pie! All are B20 bronze. I'm going to Turkey soon to spend a few weeks learning under a Master cymbal maker.
Enjoy! :D

The writing is the weight in grams. After hammering and shaping the cymbal it can be left unfinished or it can be lathed. Lathing is a process where the cymbal is locked at the center mounting hole in a vertical possition then a motor spins it by a belt connected behind the cymbal holding plate. A tool is used to take off excess metal until the cymbal reaches close to desired amount in grams needed for a certain sound. Most cymbals are lathed on both sides. Also the hammering along with the lathing makes the cymbal sound better. Thanks for asking! Best wishes!
