Is it me, or did there all of a sudden become 3 times as many patriots fans in the world after they won the super bowl in 2001? Fucking bandwagon hoppers.
Of course, that always happens. If the Bills ever won a championship (instead of humiliating themselves year after year after year after year in the Super Bowl) you would've seen the same thing happen.

Who is currently better, and why?

Manning: reigning 2 time MVP (Most Valuable Player in the League), 49 tds in a season, and he has just about as good of a winning percentage as Brady. If Manning had the Patriot Defense last year, he would have a Super Bowl ring.

No, Montana played with the greatest WR in his prime. The whole 49er franchise was dominate in the 80's Montana was just along for the ride like Brady is now with the Pats.

Unlike a guy like Elway who had to carry his team with no great WR (Montana had Rice and Taylor), no great RB (Montana had Craig), just good Defense and was able to get to 3 Super Bowls. Luckly when he finally got some star players around him he was able to go out on top.
The 49ers won their first 2 Super Bowls before they drafted Jerry Rice. Their offense was alright, but Montana made it world class.

As for Elway I agree that he carried them to those 3 Super Bowls and it's too bad people only remember that Denver lost them instead of remembering how Elway played to get them there.

Which great players did Brady have on offense for the first 2 Patriots Super Bowls? Exactly.

bd007h
10-17-2005, 10:03 PM
The Eagles would have won last year if it weren't for the failure to call a timeout in the last 2 minutes

*licks lips excitedly*

The MVP awards mean nothing. Brady should have won it in '03 over Manning, his team had an attrocious running game and no clear #1 receiver.
Manning had a top 3 WR and RB. The MVP award just means that a bunch of sportswriters think Manning's better. These are the same people who almost unanimously picked the Colts to win their playoff game in Foxboro last year (more on that in a bit).

49 TDs is great. How many would he have had without playing 9 games in a dome, and without the services of an all-time top 5 wide receiver (Harrison) and a #2 WR (Wayne) who would be #1 on most teams? Hint: a lot less.

So now we're counting winning percentage? Which is it?

If Manning had the Patriots defense last year the Colts still would've lost, the Colts offense scored THREE POINTS in their playoff loss.
Seriously, what the FUCK does defense matter when you score 3 motherfucking points?

Peyton Manning is inferior to Brady, he chokes in the playoffs every single year (even going back to college) while Brady thrives in the playoffs ever year (ditto).

It was not a failure to call a timeout, they had no timeouts to call, it was their utter failure to run the hurry-up offense on their 2nd-to-last drive that cost them a chance to win the Super Bowl.
In the end it was a non-issue, if they'd had more time on the clock then the Patriots would've just run it down after McNabb threw his 3rd (4th really, but one was called back) INT.

Not Ozymandias

Troy Brown? David Patten?
I said "great" not "good". The fact that he's had good players on offense means nothing, everyone has at least a couple, if they didn't then they never would've sniffed the Super Bowl.

Troy was very good in '01, but he was never great. If you're going to credit Elway with carrying a weak offense to multiple Super Bowls then you should do the same for Brady.

Defensive rankings are bullshit, plenty of teams from last year gave up less points than Buffalo, that's all that really matters. Shit, the Patriots defense that stopped "The Greatest Show On Turf" were ranked 24th. 24TH!!

10-28-2005, 07:00 PM
Well obviously that's primary, but he just has no game, he must be rated well because people assumed Brady's back-up from last year must be worth a shit - he wasn't. He was good for mop-up duty, but who isn't? Doug Flutie at 84 or Matt Cassel who hasn't started a game since high school is a better choice for us than Davey if Brady ever goes down.

The only thing he brought was the chance for fans to make zany Tolkien puns, but Flutie is better for that since he's an actual hobbit.

Bills fans appear to not be liking their chances on Sunday, here are some of their posts I found:

The Bills can beat the Pats IF.......

"The pats bus blows up?"

".........if the Bills tape Tom Brady's as$ cheeks together so he has to waddle around like a penguin while wearing one of cheap Scream killer masks and a Matrix cape and they make Dillion run the ball while holding a pumpkin with a Mardi Gras mask on...........

they just might have a chance!"

"We can beat the Pats IF:

Brady and the offense decide to take a "personal day""

" ...if there is a wrinkle in the Space-Time Continuum and the Bills team plane ends up in the Land of The Opposites where Mike Mularkey calls an intelligent game and we win 42-7. Tom Donohoe then gets elected new Mayor Of Buffalo"

"The Bills could beat the Patriots if:

We scripted the plays using a simulation of Madden 2006."

"We can beat the Pats IF.......

We blitz every down because Brady hasn't proved he can play well under pressure.... (sarcasm)"

"......if this was the first year after Tom Donahoe was fired."

"If the Bills decorate the Patriots locker room like a Haunted House and try to spook them with scary sounds and fake spider webs, perhaps the Bills can pull one out!"

*Holcombmania runs wild?

Hahaha.

The Bills can beat the Pats if.....

Crowbars go wild in the Patriots tunnel. Even a shattered-knee Pats team could still do damage. This is a hard thread"

"The Bills will beat the Patriots IF.....Hurricane Wilma turns to a category five and hits Foxboro causing a huge circular displacment of air that somehow blows the Bills uniforms over to the Pats lockeroom and the pats uniforms over to Buffalo"

"if the O-line/Picket Fence notices the two twigs at the bottom of each of their torso (i.e. their legs) are also used for moving backwards, forwards, etc.

Oh yeah, and Mr. Holcomb (Jesus to some people here) needs to stop buttering his hands before the game so he can hang on to the ball."

At least they know who Daddy is, Colts fans could learn a thing or two from them. :)

Referee #1: Okay, I've just watched the play over and over and over again for 90 seconds straight, and I've been calling these types of things for decades. There is not conclusive evidence one way or another, so the ruling on the field stands.
Referee #2: Wait, some kid in Buffalo called and said that there is no doubt that it was incomplete. Also, he wanted me to remind you that he has a 6.5 inch penis.
Referee #1: Alright, it must be an incomplete pass then.

I hoped that he would collapse on the field

Those could all use a guy like TO. I don't know if Vermiel or Cronell would put up with his shit though. Vick-TO would be insanity.
No way Cleveland, the fans would simply not tolerate it and neither would Crennel.

Dallas is unlikely, Parcells will only deal with assholes he already knows he can make behave because he has before (Meshawn, Terry Glenn). Plus, Jerry Jones is too image conscious.

Colts president Bill Polian said of Bill Belichick's late-game challenge to buy time for the New England defense, "I discussed it with the league office. By rule that has to remain confidential. (Head coach) Tony Dungy discussed it, too. We got a clarification. We pointed out some things to them. They're going to get back to us."

Has he ever been injured?
Yeah, he seperated his throwing shoulder in '02 but he kept playing because it was near the end of the year and we were fighting for the East. He's been banged up like everyone but never had to miss a start. He had to leave the AFC Championship game with a sprained leg in '01 but he started the Super Bowl.

I think that's why he wants him hurt. That and the whole impotent rage thang.

Davey was released before the first game. We have a 3rd-string rookie (Matt Cassel - great poise, good speed, green as fuck) who looks like he'll be something someday, he might be ready to be #2 next year. I don't think they'll be much shortage of back-ups next year if he isn't.

I like you already.

I do, he's looked great for a backup so far. It may even be next year, I believe his contract with Atlanta is up after this season. Miami would be smart to take him, even is he isn't ready he's an upgrade over Gus fuckin' Frerotte.

Even you, a Patriots fan, have to give him credit for his start in that game. I think his contract runs out in 2006 though, unfortunately. Good vision, above average speed, spreads the ball out, can stretch the field... lose the green and you've got a starter.

Colts are playing the Bengals, then the Steelers. If they're going to lose this season, it will be within the next two weeks. Think either stand a chance? I think the Bengals would have a better chance following the Steelers, but it will be a close game either way.

Injury-wise it did, but he declined quite a bit last year so it still counts.

i thought lewis DID get injured last year..

2004: Dynamic ILB earned his 7th Pro Bowl nod in 9 seasons after leading the Ravens with 200 tackles (the 3rd 200-tackle performance of his career), including 122 solo...Named 1st-team All Pro by the AP, 2nd-team All Pro by College and Pro Football Weekly and Football Digest and All Pro by The Sporting News in 2004...Lewis started the season's 1st 15 games, but missed game 16 vs. Mia. due to a broken wrist...Recovered 2 fumbles, had 3 PD, 1 sack and 1 FF...Two of his PD led to INTs by teammates, including 1 that Ed Reed returned 106 yards for a TD in game 8 vs. Cle., setting an NFL record...Posted a season-high 17 tackles, including 9 solo (surpassing 1,000 solo tackles for his career), and 1 TFL vs. Pit. I don't know, they play Seattle the day before Christmas. I really don't believe in Cincinatti this year. I think of them as more like 'lolz, they're actually trying this year'.

6-3 = they're actually trying, but they're 8-1 and have beaten a couple tough teams. Even if they don't win their division I wouldn't count them out of wildcard.

Sure. Granted you have to grade on a curve because:

a) Our secondary sucks shit
b) We spent all week planning for Ron Mexico before Mora took a page out of our book and pulled the 'ol switcheroo on the day before the game

Still, he looked very good in terms of his actual play. He's at least on par with Holcomb, Frerotte, Rattay, Dilfer and the other jobbers who've been starters so far this year and he has a big upside.

Steelers will beat them if Ruthlessburger is back, I'd take the Steelers O over the Colts D any day of the week, even in their Tampax Dome. Seattle should beat them too because the Colts D will have no way to stop Alexander and Indy will be resting for the playoffs by then.

Part of me is hoping they do go 16-0 just because it'll make this year's playoff choke the sweetest of them all.

But then you have to listen to the arrogant Colts fans for another 8 weeks. I'll take atleast one loss before then. And I'm thinking the Steelers can win without Rothlisberger, although I heard he was back this week. Tommy Maddox is no slouch.

Of course not, he just knew he wasn't going to play and wisely kept it from us. He listed him as "Probable" all week and then changed him to "Doubtful" on Saturday. It was pretty clever, we do this shit all the time. Belichick once listed a guy as "Probable" for a road game even though he didn't travel with the team to the friggin' game. XD

He's all kinds of slouch, he single-handedly cost them their game against Jacksonville. He hasn't been shit since '02, he's still riding that "Hey someone escaped from Vince McMahon vanity league hell and managed to make it in the NFL" wave, except at least the He Hate Me guy is good enough at his position.

In comparison though, he'd still be better than alot of starters this year, granted he has hit a large decline. He's basically doing what Warner did.

Tampa-
Tampa Bay police reported that some individual attempted to "egg" Jon Grunden's house last night around 2:00AM. An empty egg carton was recovered at the scene. Two eggs hit Coach Gruden's house, 3 eggs went over his house and hit his neighbor's back door, 2 eggs hit the houses of each of his next door neighbors, and the remaining 3 eggs were found broken on the ground near the carton from where the individual threw them. Analyzing the location of the broken eggs, police officials say Micheal Vick is the primary suspect.

Tampa will win if and only if they can stop Dunn. If Dunn gets atleast 50 yards in the first quarter I predict a Falcon win. I don't think Tampa has the O-Line to stand up to the Falcons' D-line for four quarters, either. There WILL be some sackage.
