Their older stuff, like 'All Killer No Filler' was okay, I have that album and quite like it, but their newer stuff sucks monkey balls.

And next time, use the search button, 'cos I'm sure this thread's most likely been made before =)

From a musician point of view, as far as how complicated a song is, the newer stuff is much better than the older stuff.

They got like 1 good song, so I can't say I hate them.. I do agree that's sum41 is should be seen as kid punk cause it is! but why should I hate them for it? I can only understand why they make kid punk since it's popular and all (which means they get loads of cash, which should be seen as an good thing).

I also can understand the backstreet boys, c'mon fuckers! Yes they make the worst kind of music ever (there's no doubt about that), but having a lot of chicks every night and loads of cash? C'mon fucker, that sounds as quality in my ears!

I don't know if they're making kid punk, but if I like some songs of them, it's because of melodies too, I really enjoy playing a lot of their riffs on the guitar.

I love their old stuff. The song 'Makes No Difference' is one of my favorites. This new "metal" (I know, they're still far from it..) style doesn't suit them well, but they're still good.

Maybe a few years ago everyone would be making threads expressing how 'fucking awesome' Sum 41 are. they're no longer in fashion and never will be. But at the time, i admit their music was addictive.
Beats me how they ended up playing on Blue Peter though. That was a desperate act.

They take themselves too seriously nowadays. Too many pop-punk bands tried to say they'd grown up and attempted to go metal or post-punk or experimental or whatever. Sum 41 were very good at what they did, which was write catchy pop-punk tunes. The only real example of that on the new album was No Reason. Which I thought was easily the best song on the album.

They were always good at what they did on Chuck. If you listen to their first album, which was very experimental, it had many different styles including pop-punk, metal, and even rap. In my opinion, they are extremely talented musicians, even if I don't like their music and their bass player is rarely ever heard. So they didn't "Grow Up" in styles of music persay.

They were very good at pop-punk. But they are also very good at this heavier version of pop-punk on the new record.

The truth is, They play the same genre as the Offspring these days. So I wish people would stop calling them 'kid punk'.

I was going to point out the same thing. People here are blinded by the fact that Offspring is a little less popular than Sum 41, therefore they believe that Offspring is less poppy than Sum 41. Here's a hint: the intensity of poppiness in a band isn't related to their popularity, even if they have the same prefix.

The Offspring are less popular than Sum 41? That's impossible. You're forgetting albuns like Smash or Americana, that sold many millions of copies all around the world. Anyway, where did you see that? In my opinion they don't play the same music style. I love both bands, and I can easily tell the difference between both genres. It just sounds different. The difference is even bigger between Sum 41's most recent works and Offspring albuns.

Here's a hint: the intensity of poppiness in a band isn't related to their popularity, even if they have the same prefix.
That's true, obviously. But, concerning my case, I've never said The Offspring were poppy when they were popular (the same way I never said that The Offspring, now that they aren't as popular as before, became less poppier).

Humm... that's not very credible... unless we assume The Offspring lost thousands and thousands of fans these last few years. And it's a bit "unfair" to compare The Offspring and Sum 41 like that. We're talking about a band with about 5 or 6 years of history, and comparing it with true punk rock dinosaurs like The Offspring, who have been around for more than 10 years. It's not that linear. Anyway, I've registered just now to their BBs, and I'm going to check thir member number. That should provide a more accurate assumption.
