The pre-season for the 2005-2006 NHL season is underway. This thread is to discuss anything NHL related. After a whole year without the NHL, I'm pumped for the new season. GO SABRES !!(even though they've done jack shit in free agency)

I think that they are ENHL or something like that.

bd007h

Ryan Miller should probably be the starting goalie for the Sabres this year. Ryan Miller, Martin Biron and Mika Noronen are all about the same skill level, but Biron and Noronen are too inconsistant. Ryan Miller spent all of last season with the Rochester Amerks in the AHL, so he has some hockey experience over the lockout time period. He's young and has the potential to be a great goalie in the NHL.

I'm very optimistic about the Habs. We have a very talanted up and coming youngsters crop in addition to the already solid-core that won a playoff spot last NHL season, so it can only get better from there.

It's been a while since I paid much attention to hockey (and it'll take a certain owner's death - preferably painful, but I'm not picky - before I get suckered into caring again) so I need you to tell me something: do the Montreal players still engage in the tradition of performing analingus on each other between periods?

Zednik - Koivu - Kovalev
Perezhogin - Ribeiro - Ryder
Bulis - Bonk - Sundstrom
Begin - Plekanec - Higgins

Souray - Markov
Komisarek - Bouillon
Rivet - Streit

Actually, Ward's had very little to do with their success. He gives up over three goals a game. They win because they keep playing fast-paced, high-scoring games and the offense bails him out.

I'm inclined to agree that they won't last, mainly because I don't have confidence in Ward. Although there's no proof of that yet. It's true that their only really impressive wins so far have been over Ottawa and Philadelphia, but still they haven't lost to anyone since the first week. If they had been losing outside of their division, then what you're saying would be legit. But they've pretty much been beating everybody.

And while inexperienced, Staal is proving himself to be one of the top forwards in the NHL. It's true that his lack of experience may hurt come playoff time, but I like him a lot. I can't wait to see what kind of player he develops into.

It really sucks to be a Capitals fan right now. Ovechkin's a great player, but other than that, they stink. Why did they get rid of all their good players before the lockout? I used to love the NHL, but now that the capitals stink, I don't watch it too much.

Of course Staal is unproven. Yes, he's playing great and i'd love to fit him on my team but if he loses steam or goes down with an injury (both are common for young players), this team is toast. I've heard Ward was very instrumental to their success, and the best young goaltender with Labarbera. Can't say much more. But I do know half of their wins were against either Washington, Pittsburgh or Florida.

Meanwhile, The Habs played a thrilling game versus the Leafs tonight. Soooo good. Too bad the fucking Laffs tied it on a cheap rebound from the board glass.

And nice ceremony to Moore and Cournoyer.

OK, now that the Canes won again I can post in this thread again. But Christ, that Thrashers loss was embarrassing (Atlanta beat the Canes 9-0 to end their 9-game winning streak, if you haven't heard). I'm wondering why the fuck we pulled Gerber after only one goal so Ward could go in and let up 8 more. And who got the Canes' win over the Senators (a respectable team) tonight? Gerber. At least now Ward might end his reign of Most Ass-Kissed Rookie in the NHL, since our backup has consistently played better than him this season.

My dad called me before the Thrashers game to proudly announce that he and my younger brother would be attending their FIRST Canes game of the season(!). I did not receive a phone call after the game.

It's a masking agent, not a performance-enhancing drug. Theodore and the team doctor came in front and claimed he was using the product for 8-9 years, while the international body for doping (whatever their acronym is) added the substance on their banned list only in november. I trust the local media will speculate and investigate the claims in the following weeks, and we ought to get to the buttom of this eventually.

I attended my first Hurricanes game of the season tonight, and it was a good one. 4-3 over the Bruins in a 3rd Period comeback. When I got there and heard Gerber wasn't in goal, I thought "Shit, just my luck," but Cam Ward actually impressed me a lot. I've been too hard on that guy. Some unlikely players scored all the goals, which is always fun. Oleg Tverdovsky, Ray Whitney, and 2 by Aaron Ward.

Also, this game was a wonderful reminder of how fucking much I love Bret Hedican. I've never seen a player that works harder on the ice than he does, and he's got to be one of the oldest players in the league. I submit that there is no better "glue-guy" in all of sports.

David Tanabe is a worthless piece of shit. Fuck him. I was disgusted by some of the cheap shots he pulled tonight. And when he was on the Canes, his extreme skid before we got rid of him made Sami Kapanen's look like a mere bump in the road.

There was a Bruins fan right in front of me that reinforced every stereotype ever made about Bostonians. He wore a backwards baseball cap, had tons of stubble on his face, turned a 360 flicking everyone off while saying "Yeeeeeeeehhhhh" in an obnoxious faux-manly voice, and a couple of times when the Bruins got called for a penalty or the Canes scored a goal he threw something down the aisle. Then once he threatened to throw his beer at the mascot, but his girlfriend stopped him.

Was his girlfriend wearing a B.U.M. Equipment sweatshirt?

I'm seriously thinking of adding "steer clear of Bruins fans" to my Rules of Life. Anyone who would show loyalty to that abortion of a franchise can't be right*.

Then again, I would probably be pretty obnoxious if I went to a Hurricanes game because I'm still bitter about the Whalers moving there. :(

Haha, last night I was watching the Vancouver and Dallas game. When Marty Turco went behind his net to get the puck, Jarkko Ruuto smashed into him, but didn't get a penalty, then Jarkko Ruuto fought someone from Dallas and got a penalty. Turco started piling up snow on the sides of his net to slow down passes beside the posts, then Alex Burrows cleared the snow away and got a game misconduct for unsportsmanlike behavior. Then there was another fight and it was going to be 3 on 3, but they said something about coincidental penalties(1 minor, 1 major, and 1 game misconduct for each team) so it was 5 on 5. Then at the end of the period, Turco bumped into Vancouver's goalie Alex Auld.

It's not that soccer is for wimps per se--these are after all world athletes--but it certainly doesn't compare to the touch-sports such as hockey and (american) football etc...

Please don't comment on American Football, when you obviously have never played it, or simply do not understand the game. American Football is the ultimate team sport, and is far more technical, as every member on the field has to act as a unit in order to complete only one play. i'm not even going to start on hockey.

WHAT A FUCKING GAME!

We get in early on Gerber, score 3 goals in the first. He's pulled for rookie Ward. An avalanche of calls (some quite disputable, to say the least) follows in the second and Carolina nets in two, and has a 5-3 power play advantage to start the third. The third starts and they score the equalizer quickly. Then the lead goal.
Montreal fights back and makes it 4-4. A minute later comes Zednik to make it 5-4 Montreal.

Wow... and as I write, 10 minutes left in the third.

I dunno, the Canadiens did get some kinda patsy calls in that OT, like Aaron Ward's holding call. And as far as I could see that holding the stick call on Brind'Amour was bullshit. He sure was mad, huh?

But yeah, amazing game. The Canes came out in OT like they couldn't be stopped, but then Huet made a great save on that Kevyn Adams shot and totally shifted the momentum.

Going down 2-0 at home would be an embarassment, to say the least.

Forget embarassing. On the next game rests your entire post-season.
I should be happy for the amazing game and for the victory. We did lose Souray though. But we got to Gerber; and Ward, though solid, probably isn't playoff material.
But good luck. We came from Raleigh with a two game lead, and you just might do the same in the next two. Here's to the better team!

Man, FSN South is hilariously biased. I'd hate to see what an angry Canadiens fan would do if forced to watch the games back here.

Meh, good win anyway, I guess. Ward keeps impressing me more and more. At least we know that the series is going back to Raleigh.

Hurricanes played great tonight, especially in the first period. Brind'Amour has been awesome the whole series, and that Williams-to-Ward goal was fucking beautiful. Cristobal Huet really made some great saves though and played a really solid game in the net. Too bad for Montreal that his teammates didn't stop him from being bombarded tonight.

By the way, I guess the cool new way to get a goalie interference call is to push the opposing attacker into your own goalie. : /
