What do you think the best new song of the year is so far? If you ask me, it's B.Y.O.B by System Of A Down, which should be remembered as one of the all time great songs.

BYOB is a good song, but not even the best on Mezmerize. Of all SOAD's singles, BYOB might be my least favorite. Question! was even better :D

My favorite new song of the year, however, might be "I'll Hurt You" by Busta Rhymes, or "How We Do" by The Game and 50 Cent.

best new song of the year : Can't Repeat, in my opinion. Other than that... most songs on Mezmerize.

oh and by the way, I think meZmerize is misspelled (maybe on purpose!)

It is, and it's on purpose.

And oh, I forgot to mention that "Sad Statue" by SOAD is one of my favorite songs of the year.

Very disappointing year, for the most part.

I concur. Both 2004 and 2005 were dud years for all the genres I'm into. And I'm into plenty. Though I must say, The Pharmacy released an album full of songs so amazing that they're too good for this thread.

Minus The Bear - This Ain't a Surfin' Movie

That's one of the weakest songs on the album and they put it at the end. It just seems to trail off...It would've been better if they put it in the middle somewhere cause it's not a really good ending track.

Any song off of Avenged Sevenfold's City of Evil is up there on the list, but if you're talking individual songs, it's Bat Country. Y'know, because it's the single.

It seems almost all the new bands this year were emocore, metalcore,or rock. The others just have been techno and alternative.

Well, probably something from Judas Priest's new album, Angel Of Retribution. Although I'm not sure which one, since I don't have the album (shame on me).
And that new Manowar song, King Of Kings, is probably really good too.

What he said. ^

Story Of The Year - We Don't Care Anymore
MUCH better than their older stuff! It's harder and less emo, and it seems as if they took time to write their songs this time!

Rise Against - Swing Life Away
I really hated this song when the video came out, but it grew on me pretty quickly.

System Of A Down - Question!
BYOB totally sucked, and SOAD has redeemed themselves in my view. Great song.

My Chemical Romance - The Ghost Of You
This was one of my favorite songs on Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, and the video did it justice. Woo!

Coheed And Cambria - Welcome Home
Amazing song. ONe of my favorites on the new album, and my favorite single from them. Great guitar solo! I'm seeing these guys live instead of Avenged Sevenfold 'cause Dad says can't take an A7X croud...

Franz Ferdinand - Do You Want To?
Alright, lyric-wise, it isn't the greatest thing in the world but DAMN, it's fun to just bob your head & dance stupidly. You can listen to it over and over again and NEVER get tired of it, plus the video is the first truely entertaining FF vid I've seen so far.

Dropkick Murphys - Sunshine Highway
This song gets me pumpin' when I play it, and it's fun to sing with. Both lead singers have odd voices, but that oddly makes their songs even better.

Motion City Soundtrack - Everything Is Alright
A really fun track on the new CD. It's a great song to just sit back and relax to, and it's another that's fun to sing with. THe lyrics are catchy and get hooked in your head, but that's not much of a problem with a song like this.

Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends
The best single off of the American Idiot album so far. The video doesn't go with the song, but it's still well put together and it flows well. Plus, the song has excellent lyrics. It's not a song to listen to often, though.

And that's about it for now. I'll post more later.

Green Day- Wake Me Up When September Ends was realeased lastyear.
Maybe the single was released this year, but the album was released last year, so it shouldn't count. And about it, it and We Are The Waiting are the only songs I don't like off that CD, I think Whatsername should've been the next single. I love that song. I wouldn't say that this year has been a disappointing year for rock. This has been rock's comeback year. 2004 was a bad year for rock, but this year, tons of great bands released new albums. Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, SOAD, QOTSA, Garbage, Weezer, Audioslave, White Stripes, to name a few.

I love that song, but my favorite song on that CD is Your Time Has Come. That song was released as a single before the album came out, but after the first day my radio stations stopped playing it. Doesn't Remind Me was released as a single after the new album was released, and radio stations still play it. I have no idea why.

Title-wise, it's similar to Turbonegro's "If You See Kaye (Tell Her I L-O-V-E Her)". Only, Turbonegro's is a bit more blatantly obvious.

Totally agree. Plus, I cringe every time I hear the line "You don't need the sun to make you shine." I think The Fix and El Torrente are the highlights of that album. Menos El Oso is a decent album on the whole, but it pales in comparison to most of the songs on They Make Beer Commercials Like This.

Also, I think there were much better songs than Best of You on In Your Honor. While it wasn't a great album, I think most of the acoustic disc was better than that song, as well as DOA, Resolve, and Hell. Goddamnit I love "Hell." Under 2 minutes long, lots of screaming, and more energy than any Foo song I've heard in a while.

I hardly listened to any new music from this year. Mainly I just discovered older music way later than I should have. But I'm sure that the best song I heard from this year is "Le Chanson de Soldat" by Lucky Boys Confusion.

I heard an new album was comming up, but if it's true? I only can hope.

"Come on, come in" is on the soundtrack of the movie ""The fantastic four" so it also could be that they were only planning to make only one song for that soundtrack, let's hope that ain't true and pray they put an new album out.

Ok, thanks! I thought that might've been a new song or a B-side to Contraband.

Yeah, I heard that they might be coming out with a new album in December or something, but that would seem awfully quick. To me, it still seems as if Contraband wasn't released that long ago, and it's very rare these days for a band to come out with a new album in consecutive years. It seems that over the years, bands have taken longer and longer to release new albums. I could be wrong about that but it seems true. But yeah, I know I'm going to be praying for a new album.
