Come on, confess! We're all little sinners.

I like loads of music that is considered "embarrassing". I have quite eclectic musical tastes. I like most pop, dance and other "mainstream" music, because it is good to dance to and it is often happy and upbeat. Sometimes the vocals are good aswell. I have a few chart compilation albums, but don't buy albums by individual "mainstream" artists as most albums of this sort are full of album fillers. I used to buy pop albums before I got into rock, and have borrowed numerous pop albums from friends,so I know this from experience.
Oh well. Criticise me all you like. I can't help being open-minded.:p

I don´t listen to any other style, except rock. I love all styles in rock... no matter what that is... classic rock, death metal, heavy metal, grounge... any kind of rock.
I hate all the other styles. That is why I have problems to enjoy going to a disco or doing sth... they only play boring techno, or boring samba, or boring hip hop...

I'm not ashamed of anything I listen to. Because not everyone is going to have the same tastes in music that I do.

In some societies (pseudo-intellectual indie-rock-diggin' societies) listening to the punk rock bands I do is embarrassing.

On general level of embarrasment are probably Spice Girls. And Britney, though I don't have her album, though I wouldn't say no to getting her Greatest Hits for Christmas - would rather just someone burn it for me or something, she has enough money.

I also love All Saints.

Fatboy Slim
And sometimes hiphop (I prefer Dutch hiphop (nederhop) though.)

Many many years ago I loved the Spice girls, and if any of there old stuff (all their new stuff since they broke up was so shit) came on the radio I'd probably crank it up, just for old times sake ;)

Well first things first nobody should be embarrased about music they truly like If your into it its your buisness who gives a fuck whats 'cool' to listen to

And I listen to plenty of stuff, some hard rocking like led zepplin, soft rocking like pink floyd, punky stuff, greenday/offspring/ramones/sex pistols, older cool music from good artists like bob dylan, bob marley,Tom petty and the like. I also listen to some rap but decent rap like Dr. Dre, Tupac, Eminem and N.W.A

Im not embarassed about any of them

Nina

i'm not embarrassed of my music. this is the music i enjoy
listening to which is not considered Rock/Punk/Alternative etc.:

; Aaliyah
; Avril Lavigne
; Björk (can somebody kindly explain to me what type of music
she really makes?)
; Britney Spears [partly...it gets annoying after two songs tho]
; Christina Aguilera (not just listening, but an actual fan)
; Justin Timberlake [i like most of his stuff, but not all of it]
; Pink (very talented..)
; Bach, because i just LOVE Bach.

...yeah.

Vera
11-25-2004, 11:23 AM
I think it really varies, what I'm embarrassed about. It depends on who I'm with, how I'm with them... For example when slightly drunk I'm totally okay with praising Britney's "Everytime" (which by the way is a very good song) but I don't tell people I've only just met what an incredible song it is as they just might get the wrong idea about my music taste and the bands I regularly listen to.

To close friends, to strangers on the internet it's totally okay for me to admit I sometimes listen to pop hits and crap like that.

Eccentric Sara
11-25-2004, 01:46 PM
Yeah, same here. I consider myself to be a "rocker", as rock is my favourite genre of music, even though I like a lot of other music aswell. I wouldn't want ppl I had just met to think I liked only mainstream music or was "trendy". I don't want ppl to er, "misinterpret" me.

Master of Puppets

Hell YEAH, Vera and others.

People consider some of this stuff embarassing. But if said people would drop their anti-top 40 pretentions they'd hear some of the hottest fucking stuff out there. Plus some embarassing stuff. Also keep in mind that I'm a DJ, and a good beat goes a long way with me.

-Britney Spears--I just bought her greatest hits album, and I fucking love it. I play "Toxic" every time I DJ a party and the place blows up.
-Beyoncé, and to some degree Destiny's Child
-Christina Aguilera
-Justin Timberlake
-Evanesence--it's just embarassing. But it speaks to the lonely depressed goth girl I was in high school.

Im not embarrassed by any of my music...it makes me who I am, why should I care if other people make a big deal out of me having an old or an obscure or a pop band in my collection.

When i can be bothered ill post my music collection up - and you can all pick out what i should be embarrassed by. Truth is, I listen to it all.

I ain't embarrassed about any of this. But if I was more insecure I would be.

Aqua
The Dubliners
Edith Piaf
Evanescence

And music that I like and know is lame would be stuff like
Manowar
White Zombie
etc.

I gotta agree with you....Toxic kicks ass. I'm not a fan of her other stuff but I love that song

My embarassing music:

Presidents of the USA (except Freaked Out and Small...that was a genuinely good, well written pop-rock album. Their other stuff I like even though I probably shouldn't)

The Strokes and the New Pornographers (because I always criticize people for liking bands that do nothing but play things that have already been done 30 years ago...although I do give the Strokes credit for sounding less identical to older bands than some of the other people that do it)

B-52s (what?)

Green Day (I own Dookie, and I at least sort of enjoy everything I hear by them, but I'll never buy anything more than Dookie cause it's all pretty similar)

Linkin Park (I still like Hybrid Theory, and Meteora had a some good parts, just no good wholes)

Everclear (I bought two of their albums...which was a mistake because they were totally identical. I don't think I still have either though. Their lyrics make me sad=,0( )

I agree with Vera that I'm probably more "embarassed" that I like some punk music in a lot of groups of people.

Either way, I am totally proud of the "uncool" music I like.

Some pop stuff...

Spice Girls
Early Shania Twain
Backstreet Boys, especially the Backstreet's Back or whatever CD
Some Britney
And other more random songs...

Some totally awesome 70's/80's music...

Phil Collins... I love his greatest hits live album
Rod Stewart... older rockin' stuff
Supertramp
Eagles
Steve Miller
Fleetwood Mac

Backstreet's Back is THE BSB cd. All the others blow hardcore. Not that Backstreet's Back doesn't blow, but it was some cool party tunes. And awesomely cheesy ballads everyone knows the lyrics to!

And yes, most people in here do not find American punkrock ("yankpunk" as we call it in here) a very cool thing to listen to.

I'm not embarassed about my taste in music, but other people seem to have a problem with it. Because I like rock music, they think it's not done to listen to other styles. Bullshit! I can listen to Sean Paul or Black Eyed Peas, as easy as I can listen to The Offspring and Korn. And if Christina Aguilera makes a song I like, I also listen to it. I don't really care who makes it, if it sounds good, I like it.
