Muppets > Sesame Street. Too many kids on SS. Too much effort to keep them as racially diverse as possible.

The Count was cool though. And Oscar. Never liked big bird much. Bert and Ernie were awesome. Gonzo was cool if he didn't go overboard with the spazzyness. But there were so many better Muppets charachters. Besides Ms Piggy. My favorite was beaker, not sure why.

Beaker was funny. That self-centered snob. I also liked Animal, Rolf, and The Swedish Chef

Here are some of my city:

The city bridge
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/8562/nijmegen1jo5.jpg

A bit farther up-stream is the 'beach', that's one of the many places where we swim during the summer. The thing I love there is that wild horses live there too and they just walk right passed you in the water. Couldn't find a proper image, only this one taken from the air.
http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/9269/nijmegen2ck0.jpg

This is where I put my bike when I'm going to school, it's at the train station. When it's hot weather I usually walk there and when the weather's really bad I take the bus.
http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/1892/nijmegen3rz2.jpg

Here's my street, all the people came to see me on my birthday. My house is under the blue sign at the right corner. The first 'brown' house.

in our country pretty much every (larger) city has that much bikes near it's train station.A while ago I forgot that I went there on bike and went back home by bus. The next day I remembered and couldn't remember where I put it. So after searching for it for half an hour I gave up. And then I found it.

There's one 'bike-parking-lot' bigger than that on the other side of the street, and another closer to the bus station. It's fun when it's very windy weather, you'll see one falling over causing the domino-effect.

JoY
10-27-2006, 01:49 PM
wooow, I haven`t seen so many bikes together in my life.....

you haven't? because this is the bikeflat building about five minutes walking from my house (I think Vlad's got a picture of it aswell).

http://www.mijnamsterdam.com/images/Typisch%20Amsterdam/Fietsenflat/fietsenflat_amsterdam_001.jpg

it's right next to the central station, but if you think you can bike to the station, because you can park your bike there, think again. this thing is permanently stocked. & more than that. it's chaos; not enough bikes fit in it.

Edit:
http://www.mijnamsterdam.com/images/Typisch%20Amsterdam/Fietsenflat/fietsenflat_amsterdam_006.jpg

ooo, you can almost see my house from up there. it's a tiring, tiring walk to the top floor, though.

it's funny, because I never considered the bike flatbuilding as being spectacular, but every time I see someone taking pictures, or pointing their finger at it, I kinda understand nowadays.

http://www.mijnamsterdam.com/images/Typisch%20Amsterdam/Fietsenflat/fietsenflat_amsterdam_002.jpg

central station of Amsterdam in the background.

http://www.mijnamsterdam.com/images/Typisch%20Amsterdam/Fietsenflat/fietsenflat_amsterdam_003.jpg

this is pretty much what parking your bike in it looks like on a good day. on a very good day. they must've sortened it out, or it was just officially opened around the time this picture was taken.

Tijs
10-27-2006, 02:02 PM
Wow, that flat thing actually looks really organized. Over here they double-park. (Double parking bikes, ha). They often park in the middle of the path as well and many times the way through is blocked with bikes that are fallen over or just not parked very well. When I go from one side to another with I have to zig-zag through everything. It's fun. (zig-zag, is that correct English?)

edit: Ah, you just edited it. I thought it was strange being so neat, seeing as Amsterdam is way bigger than Nijmegen.

zig zag? doesn't sound too English to me, but you never know.

they either structured the lot a bit, or the pictures were taken the day after this thing was officially opened. today this thing is messy, dirty, extremely chaotic - bikes & bike parts are all over the place in whatever position (upside down is definitely one of the possibilities) & junks love to hang & "shop" there. there's a police station too close in the neighbourhood, though. so they do often hang around, especially because their methadon checkpoint is around the corner, but they most often behave.

Edit:
this you're going to like, Tijs. *grins* the picture is taken next to the bike flatbuilding. read the signs.

"bicycles placed outside the racks and bicycles parked longer than 28 days will be removed."
"forbidden to park bicycles between 28-4 and 1-5." (that's "4-28" & "5-1" for people with weird date notation)

oh yes. it's seriously the way to go. you can barely park your bike here in Amsterdam, imagine what it's like with a car. unless you own one of those disgusting Smarts, you won't get very far by car here.

And now to the pictures. I've been to all those places in France... or should I say monuments? I'm more of an opera/academy/cemetery/hotel girl than a nature/pine tree/snow/lake one.

Ha, because of Queensday, right? Do people actually care for that and put the bike somewhere else?

A while ago when they were cleaning up the station they put up a sign similar to that, although a lot of bikes weren't there any more during the cleaning, they still had to bring in a truck or two to remove all the bikes that were still there. Most of them locked to that.. thing that it's parked in of course, so they lifted like 20 bikes at a time.

monaco is a nice place and "Nice and Cannes" actually the best parts of france are in the south, all along the south, Ive never been to the south west coast of france, in biaritz that like the only place in france people can do some surfing, but Ive never been and I dont surf:(
