View Full Version : Ignore List Enchancement (firefox)

This plugin is briliant. It will stop the spam problem instantly.

Firstly get Grease Monkey (http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/) and install it.

Then:- (Cejus info)

1- Open this file (http://www.freewebtown.com/Sergio_Cejus/ignoreThreads.user.js) with Notepad or similar
2- At the top of the document, where it says
var ignoredMembers = new Array("wishomie","Mercury");
you can add your own ignore-listed members, by adding something like
,"John"
after the other names.
4-On Firefox, open the *.js file you modified on Step2
5-Go to Tools > Install User Script
6-On the first list (Included Pages), add a new one: http://www.offspring.com/*
Now your ignore list actually ignores users rather than putting a gay message. And it will even hide posts where the user is quoted by others.

Instant solution to the spam problem.

Edit: also Endy you can edit this post all you want with more info, I'm off to bed now but I'll write up a decent post tommorow with full info and links to the new scripts if you don't :-)

Didn't Endy say he was going to try to make a script like that before?

If I wasn't a mod. I'd so have it.

does it hide threads?

memento
11-02-2005, 04:47 AM
Nope I am trying to hack together something but my java skills are 0. Endy will hopefully be able to extend it further to hide threads. It shouldn't be too difficult.

Also it doesn't work for users with spaces in their names. You'll have to edit in the exact HTML for it to work.

Hey, someone make a Safari (Mac) version, please.

How about you get a real computer.

Thanks Memento!

I've modified this script; now you can use it with users that have spaces on their names:

http://www.freewebtown.com/Sergio_Cejus/ignore.user.js

Enjoy :D

PS: Maybe we could change this script again, so that threads started by an ignore-listed user would dissapear as well.

memento
11-02-2005, 06:42 AM
Yeah that would be neat. But you gotta save the file as *.user.js. Otherwise it won't let you install it.

Yeah, I was wondering why I couldn't install it now, as I renamed it before uploading it LOL

It's kinda impossible to do this with threads. The script reads the page, and searches for messages similar to "....is on your ignore list". It saves the usernames of these ignore-listed members, and finally it 'deletes' the posts (actually, it only makes them dissapear).

And the problem is that on the main pages (e.g: General Chat (http://www.offspring.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=6) ), you won't find any "...is on your ignore list" message, so you can't know whether a member is on your ignore list or not :(

If only you could save some global variables...

memento
11-02-2005, 07:17 AM
Well you could make it bespoke. So say for example I block EROS. I'd have to paste in EROS into a part of the script. Obviously it woudln't be as neat as the current system but it'd still work. So for example using pOpe as an example. (only used him cause his thread was on top!)

<span style="cursor: pointer;" onclick="window.open('member.php?u=83')">pOpe</span>

you could use this code which is the same for all of pOpe's thread as the trigger to hide the thread. But obviously you'd have to paste it in yourself and it woudln't be automatic.

a) it's a greasemonkey script, greasemonkey isn't for safari
b) i wanted to write it, and i have mad java skills, but i don't know the first thing about javascript.
c) awesome, awesome, awesome

Surely editing an already written script will be easy enough for you? i.e. adding a line to delete a thread in the topics view would be easy enough. i.e. just replace the HTML I posted in my above post with a blank replacement.

I tried copy and pasting something together but the whole thing breaks. I think I'm missing parenthesis.

Try this: (it'll only work with threads started by pOpe. Note that I haven't got anything against him :) )
http://www.freewebtown.com/Sergio_Cejus/ignoreTh.user.js

Tell me if it works, as I don't have Firefox on this computer (I only got MozillaSuite)

EDIT: Of course, you can make your own script, depending on which users you have ignore-listed. I'll post an example later.

Dude it works! Spam problem solved!
haha. I'll have to dowload Firefox, although I liked Mozilla so much. Here's the new version, with an Array. Everytime you add a new member to your ignore-list, you just have to put it on this array. Take a look a t it:
http://www.freewebtown.com/Sergio_Cejus/ignoreThreads.user.js

Hope it works haha

memento

Where would you add the extra users? You should leave a random example in there for idiots like USER1 USER2 etc.

memento

I propose that the mods have a constantly updated list of spamming users. This could be updated daily/weekly and people could then download it and enjoy the board spam free.

Of course it'd be easier if it was all in a nice comprehensive sticky.

Cejus

OK. If you want to add new members to this script, in order to ignore every single post and thread they've started (you won't see those stupid spam threads anymore), you just have to:

1- Open this file (http://www.freewebtown.com/Sergio_Cejus/ignoreThreads.user.js) with Notepad or similar
2- At the top of the document, where it says
var ignoredMembers = new Array("wishomie","Mercury");
you can add your own ignore-listed members, by adding something like
,"John"
after the other names.
3- On Firefox, go to: Tools > Manage User Script, select the old script on the list and click Uninstall and OK
4-On Firefox, open the *.js file you modified on Step2
5-Go to Tools > Install User Script
6-On the first list (Included Pages), add a new one: www.offspring.com/*

and that's it. Hope everyone understands it :o

Fucking, fucking awesome.

Only, it still doesn't seem to work for users who have other symbols in their name e.g. I have ignore-listed .:SMASH:. and I still see "This message is hidden because ,:SMASH:. is on your ignore list". Ah well, still, good work. Helps a lot, I have to say.

Try this version, Kerr:
http://www.freewebtown.com/Sergio_Cejus/ignoreThreads2.user.js

(I don't know if it works, please tell me and I'll change it if it doesn't work. I haven't downloaded Firefox yet LOL).

Oh, and notice that you don't have to add names to this array in order to hide posts. It's just to hide threads.

Np! I'm learning jScript at the moment, so I enjoyed modifying this script. This plugin for Firefox is frikin' amazing (Greasemonkey (http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/)). Thanks to Memento for tellin' us. It's a really useful tool

You might want to edit that to http://www.offspring.com*. It only seems to work with the http:// infront of it.

EDIT: Is there anyway to make the threads the ignore listed users bump stay in the same spot instead of moving?

again, greasemonkey is an extension for firefox. safari does not support an extension type system to the best of my knowledge, and even if it did it would not be a simple matter to port greasemonkey to safari as it and firefox are completely different programs.

That would be impossible, unless of course we somehow looked at the last user poster and deleted that entire line. Cejus might be able to knock something up but then you'd miss out on tons of threads.
