Find 2 consecutive odd integers such that 2 times the lesser is 19 less than 3 times the greater.

The greater of two numbers is 13 more than 2 times the lesser. Nine times the greater is 5 more than 4 times the lesser. Find the numbers.

The greater of two numbers is twice the lesser. If the greater is increased by 18, the result is 4 less than 4 times the lesser. Find the numbers.

I'm to stoopid, sorry ;)

I'm a college student, and the wording of those is pretty confusing. If I took the time to concetrate on them, I'd probably get them, but I'm too damn lazy.

I don't have anything to do right now. give me a little time and I should work it all out.

edit : these are three problems right ?

Looks like two problems, I think the first two paragraphs are connected.

# 3

x = 2y

x + 18 = 4y - 4

2y + 18 = 4y - 4

2y +22 = 4y

22 = 2y

11 = y

x = 2 Times 11

x = 22

The First Number is 22, The second is 11.

I did the third one for you. They're pretty simple. All you have to do is figure out what two equations are from the problem. Then use Substitution to plug in one of the equations into the other.

( What grade are you in anyway? We covered this about a week ago in my Freshman Class)

Err, Didn't there used to be six posts in this thread?

This is more of a crappy attempt to bump the thread and show that I am in fact, not dumb. But either way, I hate it when I post last and no one responds after it. I feel like I killed the conversation.

It's three questions. It confused even my teacher. He was like "This is stupid".

That's not because the questions are hard, but because the wording is aggravating.

Yeah I know. It's like a retarded guy wrote them. It's probably how they try to teach you to deal with 'defects'.

ugh........word problems. I didn't even bother to read them.

Well, it's not actually that difficult - but I hate converting word problems written like that into equations. I just find it a waste of time. I figure if I can solve the equation, then that should be that.

No wonder I'm not a math major.

Like posting on this board? Hmm?

If I found posting here, would I keep doing it?

I get a certain amount of entertainment out of it. If you absolutely must know.

To tell you the truth, I had debated taking a shot at it, but once I saw that you had already done so, I felt there was no need to reply. So it's not like you killed the thread, you merely settled it, assuming you actually answered correctly.

never make a topic again.

*shrug* did it anyway:

Find 2 consecutive odd integers such that 2 times the lesser is 19 less than 3 times the greater.

a = b + 2

2b = 3a - 19

2b = 3(b+2)-19

2b = 3b + 6 - 19

-b = -13

b=13

a=15

The greater of two numbers is 13 more than 2 times the lesser. Nine times the greater is 5 more than 4 times the lesser. Find the numbers.

a = 2b + 13

9a = 4b+5

9(2b+13)=4b+5

18b + 117 = 4b + 5

14b = -112

b=-8

a=-5

The greater of two numbers is twice the lesser. If the greater is increased by 18, the result is 4 less than 4 times the lesser. Find the numbers.

a = 2b

a + 18 = 4b - 4

2b + 18 = 4b - 4

22 = 2b

b = 11

a = 22

O god, your sending me right back to math class today. we just studied that stuff, i sat there drawing something cuz i already knew it, THEN, we had a suprize quiz on it, i barely aced it, i was cuttin it close

but those really confuse me

See. Me and Endy know how to do them. but then again that's probably like 8th or ninth grade math.

Sorry for bumping this. Well, no. I'm not.
