Any artist out there. IF it's not too much trouble maybe you could share a picture of what your working on or a link to your website.

I'm not an artist but I loooove taking pictures, trying to think of the lights reflects , how to frame the picture... I think I've taken quite 1000 pictures since august!
Most of those are boring things, but it's by training that we get better I think... :p

I'm working on a 6 page essay about some World War II battles. But I won't take any pictures of it. Mainly because I can't find the camera.

aren't musicians artists too? I suddenly feel so a-creative. I gave up drawing/painting & now I'm instantly non-artistic.

JoY

music is a form of creativity & expression of oneself, I think. even if what you play already exists. because you can be creative with it & do whatever you want with what's on that musicsheet.

either way.. I do base what I play on existing songs, but I don't have any of it written down. I improvise with the basis that I have & the sounds that I know.

SOME, musicians are artists. Theres an easy way to tell if your music is art.
When you solo are the notes being created in your head? Do you hear melody and your fingers/hands just sort of following what's going on in your brain? OR, are you playing a series of notes/scales learned through repetition in the correct key. Both artist and non artist can produce a solo that is worth listening to. Usually I'll enjoy listening to the artists solo more.

In Jazz the difference between a highly schooled/practiced musician and natural artist brain soloing is painfully obvious. HIghly schooled/practiced artist brains usually rule. Sort of the same with painting, photography, carving/sculpting whatever.

Anyway, enough babbling from me. Thought there would be more artists brains on this forum.

Are people who play an instrument but don't create new music considered artists?

of course, because the music they play is subject to their interpretation. same goes for singers who sing other people's songs. and designers who design stuff to carry other people's information.

grr.

I play guitar but I don't think I'm good.

Last year I had an arts & communications class and I loved it. I took a lot of pictures, but there's only one I like. I'm going to post it here some day. Furthermore, I might study communication & cinema soon, so you might see some of my pictures here.

Also, I'm supposed to be a good drawer. That's what people tell me. The last thing I've drawn was a drunk scottish man. I sometimes draw on www.youdraw.com when I'm bored, but I rarely have the time to be bored because of college.

Sunny, I like what you posted. :)

you know nothing about the members of this board. there definitely are artists here that'd blow you mind.

the melody is in my head, aswell as what I do with it, or else I'd play from sheetmusic. like I said, I don't have one note of what I play written down. not even the classical music I play. I do have an audiographic memory, which means I base a lot of what I play on things I've heard before.

Mags, those things are awesome. especially the last one. I fucking love it.

That's wrong - you don't necessarily have to be a brilliant musician to come out with a nice piece of music. Even if you go at it in the most basic level - randomly playing bits and pieces you like until they come together - if you were to create a nice piece of music I would call you an artist.

Music is a kind of art form. So I'm working on a song based on this riff:

E---------------------------------------------
B---------------------------------------------
G-7--7--77--3--3-3--3------------5--5-5--5
D-7--7--77--3--3-3--3-3--3--33--5--5-5--5
A-5--5--55--1--1-1--1-3--3--33--3--3-3--3
E------------------------1--1--11------------

Yeah, it's supposed to. It sounds pretty nifty if you try it out, diminished scales are fun. Mess around with this chord, too, and you get the general idea of what the whole song will be like.

e|5
B|4
G|5
D|4

You can carry that shape up every 4 frets and it has the same notes, it's a lot of fun to play with.

That's a full diminished chord - you move it up in intervals of 3 frets, no?

And I usually only like dimished chords in the context of a harmonic minor scale.

Alright, seriously.... that's got to be the oldest chord progression in the history of rock music. There's literally about 18 offspring songs with that in it, and then about 15 Sum 41 songs, 12.... do you see where I'm going?

I know about the chord progression, but I have a really special timing on it that I like, unfortunately, I suck at tabbing, so the timing makes no sense at all.

EDIT: Actually, the timing is kind of Smells Like Teen Spirit, just without the scratches.

Try marking the beats and up/downstrokes on the tab... it takes longer but makes it more accurate.

I see... that's really not too special a sense of timing... and the riff to self esteem uses the same chord progression, only an octave above and on a different note.

When George Thoroughgood was selling some records way back when some interviewer asked why he didn't play more original songs. He said something like with so many great songs out there already why would he want to waste time writing when he could be playing his guitar and having fun.

heh, when it comes to punk, pretty much all powerchord progressions have been taken already and the strumming is the only thing that has remained original. As long as it sounds good put against a good voice melody, it doesn't really matter.
