Vote for your favorite. You can also mention the OS version you're currently using, and stuff like that. And no, this thread hasn't been done before - I checked.

Mac OSX 10.4.3 "Panther" <3 <3 <3

edit : damn, forgot to add a poll.

"Thread Tools" near the top of the page. I think only the creator can add one.

So so limited...
Right now I mostly use Linux (Fedora Core Rawhide) and I have a test server with Solaris 10. I have a PC with Zeta BeOS 1.1 too, but don't use it too often. There's also a test box with all my old hard drives each with a few partitions and each a different OS: Syllable, SkyOS, MenuetOS, FreeBSD, a Debian/Hurd setup (Mach, not L4), and QNX.

I've got windows xp, and it really sucks!!! So in summer, before going to university, i'll buy a Power Book.

I think is better os Apple one than Windows, and it takes less RAM than Windows, and i's faster.
Before I formated yesterday (because i couldn't turn on my computer...) I had a mac OS X visual style, and i was really amazed, because with it my computer went faster than with Windows one.

So... I HATE WINDOWS and Bill Gates too ^^

what specifically about windows?

the hideous interface?
the fact that most viruses are targeted towards it?
the fact that it's a slow bitch?
the blue screen of death?
applications crashing all the fucking time?

yeah, serious pwnage here...

note: i fully support apple's operating system, but i highly dislike their stance of using proprietary hardware.

That's why I use my Mac whenever I can.

Vote for Windows. Simply because of how well the NT kernel in XP has treated me, after my *horrendous* experiences with the 95-line. You do have to admit that it's where it is in the market for a reason other than global conquest.

I run XP, ME and RedHat9 off hard-drives; Slax, Knoppix, Gnoppix and some other random distros off LiveCDs; Windows 3.1 and MenuetOS off LiveFloppies. And I have boot disks for every version of Windows that's offered them, which I guess counts as LiveFloppies for DOS.

The fact 90% of all software and games are made for it

That_Guy91

The fact 90% of all software and games are made for it
and 85% of all games and software either work for both or have seperate versions.

Endymion
11-18-2005, 03:41 PM
The fact 90% of all software and games are made for it
over estimate. 75-ish% of *commercial* software and games run exclusively on windows, much of the remaining is cross platform (doom3 came out on mac at the same time, ut2k4 ditto, etc), but there is some commercial software that runs exclusively on mac. a lot of industry-strength tools run exclusively on unix/linux or if they're cross platform they run better on unix/linux (apache, etc).

work = xp no real choice about it.
home - osx 10.2.8 on my old powermac or 10.3.9 on my ibook. I've not really felt any need to update to the newest version as I can't update the old pwermac to it and it just doesn't seem like anything 'essential'
home - xp not for a terrible amount of things but the occasional game and such is all I have it for really. otherwise I'd install a nix distro on it. I'm too lazy to partition a hard drive or install another to dual boot.

Endy (or anyone else) ever tried the x86 developer version of osx? I'm tempted to find a source and try it out. I think the site for it was www.osx86project.org

Maybe there should have been a unix derivative category? then you could lump a bunch of things together.

no, i haven't tried OS X x86. haven't really been interested since it was rather out of date, but i heard that they're at the point where they're concurrently building the OS for x84 and ppc at the same time now, so maybe i'll grab an image.
