I am ever so bored with my 30 Gb of music, i feel like i've heard it all a million times. :/
recommend some good songs/bands for me to get. pleaseee? i don't care what genre, i like almost everything. seriously. except for heavy metal and whiny generic pop punk. i'm especially open to new synthpop, industrial and hardcore stuff, but anything goes really.

70s-80s music too.

help a brotha out, or something.

Bruce Dickinson's solo albums are pretty good, and they're not heavy metal like Iron Maiden.

0r4ng3 - i went to their site. they look really.. metal-y.. so i dunno.

to make this somewhat easier, i listen to stuff like kmfdm, rammstein, wolfsheim, bright eyes, thursday, new order, kidney thieves, johnny cash, apoptygma berzerk, funker vogt, depeche mode, joy division, pet shop boys, skinny puppy, oomph!, our lady peace, rilo kiley, the faint, the postal service, smashing pumpkins, bauhaus, weakerthans, michael jackson (stfu), eels, guster, icon of coil, rancid, nick cave, leonard cohen, the birthday massacre, MSI, etc.

...just so you don't recommend me stuff i'm already into. ;p

You probably have heard them but, download Belle and Sebastian.

I would recommend the album "The Boy With the Arab Strap."

Betty recently recommend "The New Pornographers" and their album "Twin Cinema" which is really good.

Let's see, I can recommend some bands that only sing in Danish:
Nephew : USA/DSB
Johnny Deluxe : Luxus

also a good band from where I grew up:
The Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Zoot Suit Riot

and I know you like the Pumpkins, so you would like
Billy Corgan - TheFutureEmbrace

Oh, right, "no heavy metal". My next idea is The Network. It's the guys from Green Day (and 2 other guys) playing electronic-type music. You should still try them out, even if you don't like Green Day, because they sound different.

0r4ng3 - i do like green day.. and that sounds pretty good. i'll definitely check them out. thanks :]

I'm going to mention the same songs I mention for pretty much everyone else

Minus the Bear - Hooray and Fine +2 Points
Dismemberment Plan - The Other Side, Time Bomb, The City
Mr. Bungle - Carry Stress in the Jaw and Ars Moriendi (ok, so they're sometimes metal, but they're real good!)
Sunny Day Real Estate - Pillars
Presidents - Meanwhile, back in the city
Sufjan Stevens - Casimir Pulaski Day
Cursive - Mothership, Mothership do you read me? (so friggen emo, but very good at it)
Horse the Band - Birdo (kinda hardcore/metal mixed with NES keyboards. Yay!)

Also, I'm pretty sure I remember you saying you liked North Star Infinite a while back. They have a new album out and there's a couple new songs up on their website you could download (www.northstarinfinite.com) They're really good.

Yes, the New Pornographers are really good. I thought their new album was inconsistent though and ranges from "omg, best songs of their career" to "omg this sounds like shitty new weezer with bubblegum pop vocals". I think their first and second albums are better as a whole. Check out Mass Romantic.

I must sound like an idiot, but DJ Roog. it's Hardsoul & it's jazzy & fun if you're in the mood.
& for the trillionth time; Racoon. just makes you happy.
K's Choice. anything by K's Choice.
you probably know them, but Luscious Jackson.
Gipsy Kings are <3.
Jeff Buckley, you probably know him inside out too.

let me know if this is remotely helpful. =)

Edit; oh right. & OF COURSE the music to Amelie by Yann Tiersen. <3
Coldfinger - Cover Sleeve = supersweet.
Lacuna Coil - Falling. Joey recommended it me a few years ago & I loved it.

Jeff Buckley, you probably know him inside out too.

That's a brilliant recommendation. Jeff Buckley's amazing.

If you don't mind music in other languages, I recommend Kyo, a french rock band I'm partial to. The songs Je Saigne Encore, Contact, Je Cours and Respire are nice. Unfortunately, from what I remember the lyrics lean more towards emo (I don't listen to lyrics, so I'm not sure), but the singer's voice isn't whiny, so that gets sorted out.

Well, the boys already took care of the New Pornographers recommendations...

And since you already listen to the Weakerthans which is another one of my must-listen-to bands... (they are so fantastic)

I'll give you some other random songs that I'm into... your taste seems pretty random which is good.

I am totally into indie rock right now, so there may be a little bias...

My housemate burned me this album and it's so good:
Hawksley Workman - For Him and the Girls

Some Songs: No Sissies, Sad House Daddy, Tarantulove.

I hear so many different influences in this guy, some Costello, some Bowie, etc, etc. The song Tarantulove is the coolest... but how could a song with that name not be cool? (This recommendation goes to everyone)

I wrote a review about this album in the other bands section...

The Dandy Warhols - Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia

Some Songs: Godless, Mohammed, Sleep

The Shins - Girl On the Wing

I've decided that I think you will like this song... so you should listen to it if you've never heard it... it's got some synth and some pop...

Sleater-Kinney

I'd imagine people would either love or hate this band. They are totally unique sounding, and in my opinion very fantastic. Grrrl rock.

Some songs from different albums: Entertain, All Hands on the Bad One, Oxygen

If you are very interested and can't download any of this I can upload some, but I don't want to bother if you're not really interested anyway.

Could you ever get into Aaliyah? I dunno, it sounds like we have somewhat the same taste in music, and Aaliyah is a thing for itself...I dont listen to that stuff at all, but I really like her music. Try it?

I'll hook you up with some Megaherz and Eisbrecher tomorrow if you'd like. I may have some Laibach and Einsturzende Neubauten at work as well. You've got the Oomph! and Rammstein so you'll probably like Megaherz and Eisbrecher.

Industrial radio podcast? www.industrialradio.org is pretty good I think.
Radio Goethe do a podcast now too, which isn't too bad either, mainly german rock stuff, they did an electronica thing the other week which was quite good. www.radiogoethe.org

Tiger Army is something that grows on you, and then grows on you some more. Initial I wasn't a big fan of the newest album, Ghost Tigers Rise, but now it may be my favorite among their works. One of my top ten, that's for sure.

I'd suggest:
Matthew Good Band - The Audio of Being
Blood Brothers - Crimes
Elliot Smith - from a basement on the hill
Choking Victim - No Gods, No Managers
Fleetwood Mac - The Dance
the Format - Interventions and Lullabies
Further Seems Forever - Moon is Down
Neon Blonde - Chandeliers in the Savannah
the Kinks - Best of the Kinks
Metric - Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?
Neko Case - Blacklisted
Reggie and the Full Effect - Under the Tray
Deseparecidos - Read Music/Speak Spanish

Songs: John the Fisherman, DMV, Harold of the Rocks, Southbound Pachyderm

Big D and the Kids Table - ska/(non whiny) pop-punk
Songs: Quiet Room, Checklist, My Girlfriend's on Drugs
