Yesterday, my computer speakers stopped working. Or at least, I thought it was my speakers, since they had been partially broken for the longest time. I try my headphones (both of 'em) on my computer, and neither work. I still get no sound. I tried adjusting all of the volume levels, but to no avail.

Could someone tell me what is possibly wrong here?

Edit: iTunes is also acting very strangely.

Yeah, I know. The title is a subtle reference that I've always wanted to use for a thread.

Turn your computer off, take your sound card out and put it back in. If that doesn't work there's probably something wrong with it. It's possible it's a software problem, but more likely than not it's the soundcard itself.

Yeah, I'm afriad that the compy's gonna pee on the carpet.

Also, iTunes is acting wierd. When you click play, the song stays at 0:00, and I know it doesn't freeze. I'm also using Homestarrunner.com to test the sound, and I noticed the animations aren't very...animated. It looks almost frozen.

Edit: Homestar Runner's working now, but iTunes is still fucked.

Speaking of which, I'm having other problems, too.

For one, iTunes is acting wierd. When you click play, the song stays at 0:00, and I know it doesn't freeze. I'm also using Homestarrunner.com to test the sound, and I noticed the animations aren't very...animated. It looks almost frozen.

Go to the volume control(via control panel) and make sure "volume control" and "wave" aren't in mute. As simple and stupid as this sounds, it has happened to me a few times.

Edit: iTunes is also acting very strangely.Registry cleaners are great when a computer has unknown errors. They have gotten me out of many serious problems. Also if you have WIndows XP try and run a system Recovery. They seem to work pretty well.

I'm not so great on computers, but I reckon it probabl;y is just your sound card playing up. Although something like this happened to me bus I discovered someone just pressed the mute button on the key board and made me feel like a right idiot. :o

Heh, I had a similar problem with my soundcard, it didn't want to work whenever I did a warm reboot, I just moved the soundcard into a spare PCI slot on my motherboard. Are the drivers all up-to-date?

Yah my computer did that to me also so I ran a recovery and my sound worked fine. Just restore the computer to a time when the sound was working and the speakers should work fine.

I could be like everyone else and say something about your sound card, but I'm not going to.

They aren't working because you touch yourself at night.

I will do that. Thanks for the helpful hint.

Check that your drivers are up-to-date, it could be a corrupted driver file. Also, does anyone besides yourself use the computer? If yes, ask them if they did anything out of the ordinary to it.
Or it could simply be that the soundcard is lose, fryed out (rare, but it does happen), or the PCI slot itself has given out.

BiB, excavate off.

Anyway, I've tried everything mentioned, except fix the sound card. At this point I've given up. Luckily (and coincidentally), I was getting a new computer this weekend anyway. I'm still getting rid of the speakers.

Fine, don't listen to me.

Just keep touching yourself at night like a little pervert.

But don't be suprised if it explodes soon...

I'm basically not messing with the sound card because I know I'll make it worse. I don't know where the sound card is, I'll probably end up erasing everything.

Edit: "soon"?

Do you know what sort of soundcard it is? On board or PCI?

Not a freakin' clue.

Edit: You guys have no idea how tormenting this is, not having speakers. There's a new H*R email, and I can't even watch it.

When was the last time you ran AdAware? I had a problem like that once that ended up being because of some spy/malware bs.

Adware is a form of spyware its self.

So, Spyware = Very Yes? I don't think that's the problem, my spyware destroyer programs work well enough.

Bump, new problem.

After browsing teh internets for a while, I keep getting a message that says "This document contains no data", on sites that very much do have data. So, what's the problem this time?

Edit: Aah, forget it, it's working now.

That might be it, because I had major problems when I first got a cable modem, about a year ago. Right now, I'm on another computer, and it works just fine.

I only get it sometimes, on certain sites only. It's happened at Nationstates and Last.fm a few times. I always have this BBS on, and it's always unaffected.

I guess those site just go down every once in a while. Now that I think about it, it happened to me in this bbs when it was having some problems and it was running slow.
