Those are just the bands I'm listening to right now. They're not my favorites. But I do like them. And maybe hundreds was exhausting the actual amount of probably 75. But I do know quite a few metal bands and own lots of those bands music.

Progressive and heavy are the only kinds of metal I listen to, along with a tad bit of thrash. Korn and SOAD are a pube hair to the metal community. You fail for even mentioning them.

I've never really been able to understand the big deal about SOAD. I don't think they're as good as everyone says they are.

It does for me too but once you're used to it, it's not tha bad. You're missing out on great bands like Children of the Bodom and Inflames because of that.

I've heard a couple CoB and they're not as bad as some, but the lyrics are hilarious. They obviously don't try on them. Not that it really matters for death metal anyways. Any suggestions on how to get used to it?

I think Hair Metal is the best style of metal. My favorite Hair Metal Bands are KISS,Guns n Roses,Bon Jovi,The Scorpions,Motley Crue,Iron Maiden,Deep Purple, and Van Halen. Metallica is easily the best metal band that isn't Hair Metal. And Korn and SOAD are great, too.

Metallica, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple (thought the last two are more hard rock to me) and Judas Priest are all awesome. I might also get into a bit of Mercyful Fate and Diamond Head. Slipknot, however, are shit and way too samey. No matter how hard I try, I just can't like most of what they do, not even The Subliminal Verses. I currently like Confessions though, which is a bit of a hip-hoppy song. Fall and Purity are also great songs.

I really don't know what to think of Dream Theater... Some songs are pretty cool, and some are just... I don't know... lame?

Anyway, I need some advice. Which...
a) Black Sabbath (I have Paranoid, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Heaven And Hell)
b) Metallica (I have S&M)
c) Guns N Roses
... album should I buy? And which Blind Guardian album: Somewhere Far Beyond or Imaginations From The Other Side?

I could tell you my own preference (which certainly wouldn't include Black Sabbath), but you should seriously decide for yourself.

Sinister
01-15-2006, 07:27 AM
MSBEG - if you wanna get some Metallica, go for their older stuff. I've been told their recent work really isn't as good as what they did before.

Mannen som blev en gris
01-15-2006, 07:33 AM
Yeah, that's what some people say, but The Talking Pie (and someone else...TUNB? I think it was him) said that there actually isn't anything wrong with their newer stuff.

Don't you think I've already tried that? It's hard!

If you're at all into hard rock that actually sounds catchy (which, in underground terms = selling out, because good music must never, ever actually sound good [/sarcasm]) then go for Reload. Seriously, it's one of Metallica's best albums, because it's so damn versatile and not just one genre. Though, having said that, there's absolutely nothing at all wrong with their earlier albums, and if I had to suggest only one from Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All, I really would struggle to pick one.

wikipedia says:

NIN's sound has variously been described as alternative, electronica, heavy metal, rock, synth pop, or, most commonly, industrial or industrial rock. Regarding his music being categorized as industrial, Reznor said in a 1994 Axcess magazine interview:

What was originally called industrial music was about 20 years ago Throbbing Gristle and Test Dept. We have very little to do with it other than there is noise in my music and there is noise in theirs. I'm working in the context of a pop song structure whereas those bands didn't. And because someone didn't come up with a new name that separates those two somewhat unrelated genres, it tends to irritate all the old school fans waving their flags of alternativeness and obscurity. So, I'd say I've borrowed from certain styles and bands like that."

Yatesy

If you want industrial, listen to Skinny Puppy.
