View Full Version : Hypothetical dating question

Let's say you're 21, and have been dating/shagging your 39-year-old friend (of two years) on and off, non-regularly and non-exclusively, since the summer. Let's also say your father wanted to listen to said friend's band, so you mention that you've dated guy in said band a bit in passing. Would your 47-year-old father and his wife be entitled to flip out a little, especially considering your father has been dating women your age and younger for the past several years (and probably still is)?

I don't think so. But the thing is parents always know what the best thing is for their kids to do (ie not dating older men) but they never seem so keen to follow the advice themselves (ie not dating younger women.

No. But it's a dad.

My mom didn't make a big deal out of it.

I mean...let's say your mom didn't make a big deal out of it.

I'd say that even though it's very hypocritical, the father is entitled to react as such. At the end of the day the woman in quesition is his daughter and I think anyone would feel some kind of reluctancy to accept the fact that she is dating/shagging a man 18 years older than her. And the mother not reacting doesn't suprise me at all, mothers are much more understanding about these matters; whereas the fathers don't. It's the fact that he's a man and know what men are like; and the thought of any man inside his daughter would wind him up - let alone a man who'se only about 10 years younger than he.

That probably doesn't read well but hey.

TheUnholyNightbringer
01-08-2006, 05:15 PM
But the daughter isn't entitled to feel the same about her father doing the same with younger women?

He's allowed a reaction. You're allowed a counter-reaction. Then you meet in a middle. Why does he have to be all smart and reasonable when this is an emotional topic for him?

Preocupado

i didn't mean incest, perves.

a father who dates teens and a daughter who dates seniors sounds like a full circle.

You're making it sound like these emotions are subject to reason. Meet in a middle? Lolz!!eleventy-one!!

TheUnholyNightbringer

The word "eleventy-one" makes Dave happy.

HornyPope
01-08-2006, 05:43 PM
No, i'm saying these emotions are not subject to reason. When a dad see his daughter come home late one night, for example, he first flips out (because he's sick worried) and asks questions later. It's only later that he weights on the pro and cons and tries to look at it from a reasonable angle.

What? You're having sex?? That's not allowed! Cut it out right now young lady and go to your room. Don't you have homework to do? The problem is that your dad still sees you as the cute little girl that he taught to ride a bike. He still can't quite allow himself to see that you're now riding boys... much less men roughly his own age. It's just something he'll have to learn to deal with as he slowly accepts that you're a mature, responsible woman that can handle herself.

Also, this is the problem with being an early twenty-something dude. All women want to date older men, which eliminates everyone your own age. But start dating a fifteen year old and suddenly for some reason everyone starts freaking out.

Little_Miss_1565
01-08-2006, 07:22 PM
Now THAT's what I'm talking about, Vlad.

Claibe--That's coz of something called the age of consent....but in the immortal words of the Dwarves, "Old enough to pee, and she's old enough for me."

HornyPope

Why fifteen? 18-19 year olds are more than happy with boys in their twenties (inch). I've no complaints (with my penis).

Here's a joke for ya'll.

A girl comes home at a quarter past five one night. Angry dad storms out to the door and asks her where she was. "I got raped, daddy", she sobs. He replies: "It takes fifteen minutes to rape you. I'm asking where the hell were you the other five hours!"

In my opinion, you should date who you want regardless of age. The important thing is that you're happy. Most parents always over-react, especially a father over his daughter. In a father's eyes, no one is ever good enough for his daughter no matter what race, age, etc. It's your life, not his.
He'll get over it.....eventually.

I LOVE THIS THREAD OMG.

1565 - First of all, lolz groupie. But as long as you're happy, I'm happy. Hope your man is good to you. (Most purely sexual relationships I know of have been drama fests - but I guess that's what happens when everyone involved is under 23.)

And yeah, your dad's reaction sucks but he's a dad. He'll come to terms with it. And if he doesn't, it doesn't really matter until you marry this guy, if you ever do.

I want to make an inappropriate joke about how your guy might dump you and start dating your fine, 18 year old age difference instead but I won't. ;p

And Endy's penis is love. More of this, plz.

honey, don't flatter yourself. you're not an "evil bastard" or some kind of a dark BBS hero that makes everyone tremble with anger. your effect on people is more comparable to that of an annoying blackhead that won't come out, or a particularly persistent mosquito.

Tell your dad the band is good. That will make everything alright.

And TOM, you've been making a complete fool out of yourself. Didn't you get the hint when everyone ignored your attempts for the first 5 pages?

But seriously - everybody's right. Fathers are irrational about their daughters. He should start thinking more clearly... eventually.
