The complexity of your argument shows that you've obviously put a lot of thought into the matter.

I think bush and kerry suck, but i'd rather have less of a cunt in office. bush is a terrorist. He killed innocent people. Even though saddam and osama were terrortists, saddam wouldn't go out of his way to get osama weapons. They were enemies. bush is a cunt. He just used osama as an excuse to get saddam as revenge on what happened when his dad was president. bush is a cunt.

Terrorism - The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.

i'm pretty sure bush falls under the catagory of "terrorist"

when groups like the PLO are called terrorists, (who are far more legitimate resistance groups than the 'American Liberation Army') then I will keep on calling Bush a terrorist.

HAHA I agree 100%. Honestly, I don't agree with any type of war, unless it's necessary. The war against Bin Ladden, of course, is necessary, because he was the mastermind of 9/11. However, the war in Iraq is not necessary, because Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11. Yeah, Saddam was an evil person, and I was happy when they finally captured him, but on 9/11, 75 people from my neighborhood died. 75 families in my neighborhood lost someone on 9/11, one of those families was my aunt's in-laws. Saddam had nothing to do with that. Why go after him? Yeah, he's a terrorist, and he killed so many people, but the reason we went into Iraq was because he had weapons of mass distruction, which they never found, and they said he was linked to Al Quaeda, which they can't prove. Maybe if the war was against Bin Ladden, I'd actually support it, but we have no reason to be in Iraq.

There is very little proof that Osama masterminded 9/11. He's yet to claim responsibility for it.

Either way a war against one man is stupid and unnecessary. You can kill the man but not the idea, and that's the only thing they'd accomplish. Someone else would pop up and take his place. Really a stupid strategy.

RXP
12-06-2004, 03:07 PM
Depends if you believe the strategy's goal is to actually kill him. It's an extremely effective strategy if you really sit down and think about it.

Nice to know your on first name basis with Osama!

wheelchairman
12-06-2004, 03:19 PM
We communists got connections.

I'm taking the strategy for what the administration has always claimed it was. Conspiracy theories while interesting, just don't make legitimate arguments. (Although I'd agree, I do think there are ulterior motives and they've been reached quite effectively.)

I know I'm gonna sound like the stereotypical jackass of this message board, but a lot of you should read 1984 (And actually read it for the deep political commentary and not just for the story.)

Most people say that it was a good thing we went to war after the 9/11 attacks, to catch the People who were supposedly resposible for them(the FBI and CIA told Bush there was no connection between Iraq and the 9/11 attacks), but just because They went and killed a bunch of people, dosen't mean we have to go kill a bunch of people to get revenge. And even aftre a shit load of troops died in that pointless war, he hasn't gone to any soldier's funeral...
he also choked on a pretzel and *alomost* died to those of you who don't already know that.
*too bad it didn't work >:p

i dont necessarily have a problem with the war on terror...dismantling the terrorist groups is the only way to fight it, ya you say the ideology wont go away, but you have to at least keep them weak...they did kill 3000 people in my state, and i would like to kill those fuckers, thats what we all wanted after 9/11...we wanted those bastards dead...the war on iraq is a different story...but we can just not do anything about terrorist attacks on us, so the war on terror seems to make some sense...

Italia311

So why is bush wasting so much useless time in Iraq than? Just like that GreenTerror said, The CIA and FBI said there is no connection between Iraq and the 911 attacks. I have no problem with them going after Osama and his boys but this shit in Iraq is a waste of time!

i agree...they got rid of a dictator who killed and wanted to kill us (but obviously didnt have the resources to do so)...one good point i heard was that we got rid of a dictator before he could become strong, where we would have to go into a bigger war (sort of liek with hitler in ww2)...that is a good argument, but that also means you are saying the end justifies the means...and if they are harboring terrorists, what do we do when we find out more countries are doing the same thing? what if france was doing that? do we go to war with everyone...is it good that a threat is gone, yes...but does that means this war is right? i dont really think so, and it is taking too long to finish off as well.

Im actually doing my major in Classics. Im not really the philosophy type, but I took it cause I thought it would be an interesting class and it is. I would recommend taking it. Anywho, I have this damn exam soon and I gotta get cracking on my Philosophy Essay on the Socrates quote: "The unexamined life is not worth living" :)

Look up the dialogue Theaetetus....somewhere in there socrates goes on and says people who deny thinking outside of the box (Such as right away rejecting if there is God or not) are people who are living the lowest form of life...he also says many philosophers are weird and odd and dont seem to fit in and they basically dont even realize it...and yes the unexamined life is not worth living because you dont even realize your are living life then...there is no importance in your life if you do not think about life and what there is and isnt and why and not examining your life leaves you as far from being whole as you ever can be...the Theaetetus dialogue is about what is knowledge by the way...good stuff.

Italia311
12-06-2004, 07:55 PM
I agree with you but I'm trying to make up arguments on why someone wouldnt want to examine there life...here is what I have so far...

Argument 1. A Religious perspective...

"why would I need to examine my life when God has chosen the path for me already? It doesnt matter if I examine my life cause its already been set in place by God"

Argument 2. Outside influences on ones life, possibly from friends...

"I don't need to examine my life, look at the way ~frank~ lives, he works a part time job, lives in his parents basement and hangs out all day...he seems to be happy and having fun, so thats what I'm going to do"

Argument 3. ??????? don't have one yet....

This are just examples...I don't know anyone who think this way but are possible arguments...Care to share any of your own???? :P I'd love to continue on this conversaton...

And is the dialogue Theaetetus, is this a book? or is it something in Plato's Apology?

Moose

well if you want a good grade id say dont do that...if you want to be smart id say dont do that either haha...the christianity is actually based on free will...so that argument is weak, and basically untrue...and the others are kind of corny and dont hold much water haha...sorry to burst your bubble...if i did anyway.

Well...I really don't have much choice, I've told my prof those arguments and he seems to think they are fine....I don't like this topic at all, but he advised me to stick with it. He gave us a list of topics but I made up my own. I dunno why I chose do write about this! lol. He wont be marking too much on the arguments used in the essay, he is more focused on the construction of the arguments and whether or not the class is able to construct a proper philosophical essay. Its a first year elective course..lol Im no philosopher thats forsure. I appreciate the feedback though.

Moose
12-06-2004, 08:23 PM
no problem...sucks for you...haha thats all i can really say...its going to be tough to make your side of the argument look good...maybe you can say focusing so much examining one's life may affect how one lives it...or one may stop living because he or she is so obsessed with every detail, instead of just simply living life...you could try that.

Italia311
12-06-2004, 08:50 PM

haha...well accordin to the dialogues hed pick you apart nicely and give you every benefit of the doubt possible...the second thing is find some religion that does go by our fate is laid out, although im not sure there really is any popular one...but you can just do a person's belief in that and now worrying so much about life and just living it....but ya good luck with that haha...this board has helped me prevent doing real school work...i thank you all...

Hussein didn't do a thing in the dozen years following the first Gulf War, there's no reason to believe he would have ever become a threat.
