Hey... I was a kid in the 90's and my parents played alot of 90's music and I heard alot on the radio. Can you name some popular rock songs from maybe 1996 to 2001? Because I didn't start actually listen to my parent's music since 1996 and didn't starting getting my own music until 2001. There were alot of songs I recently discovered that I loved. Thanks.

by Third Eye Blind:

Semi Charmed Life
Jumper
Graduate
How's It Going To Be
Losing A Whole Year
Never Let You Go
Deep Inside Of You

Almost all of them were very well-known hits. All 3 of their albums are great, but those were their biggest hits.

The Freshmen by The Verve Pipe

one of my favorite songs of all time.

Also try these songs by The Wallflowers (the lead singer Jakob Dylan is the son of former folk rock legend Bob Dylan)

One Headlight
6th Avenue Heartache
The Difference

All About Eve

I assume you're not looking for metal bands, so I'll skip those.

I think Garbage was late 90s.
REM (80s too, but whatever, a lot of their hits were in the 90s)
Fastball had some 90s stuff.
Bush may have been, I really don't know.
AFI's older stuff
And then for some reason I find a lot of Smashmouth stuff catchy.

Nickelback's first hit was in 2000. Also, try Eve 6, Reel Big Fish, and Bound for the Floor by Local H.

how could I forget Eve 6?:

Inside Out
Leech
Promise
Here's to The Night

Their last album, It's All In Your Head was in 2003 but it flopped due to lack of promotion. the only hit from that album, Think Twice, is pretty good.

Beck - Loser

Almost everyones' heard it. Only half of them like it. But It's an awesome song.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Are Good.
Same with the Beastie Boys, Millencolin, The Vandals and the Suicide Machines.

Most of these bands are still around... but their best songs are definately in the 90's.

Sublime - Santeria, What I got, Wrong Way

You've heard them all, you've found yourself humming each one on many occassions. I don't even like them much anymore, and I still find myself humming their tunes a lot.

Metallica - Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven, a couple others on The Black Album (self-titled) were quasi-hits.

Nirvana (no one has said it yet?) - Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, In Bloom, Breed, Lithium, Polly, Heart-Shaped Box, All Apologies, Rape Me, About a Girl. They're all pretty big hits.

Lit - My Own Worst Enemy (you'll remember this one)

I'll think of more later.

Garbage is a pretty good one to check out if you haven't already. They're like most of the alternative stuff from the 90's, only not, you know, dull.

Missed that, oops. Oh well, it's good music nonetheless.

Sugar Ray is another 90's band. Check out the songs Fly, Every Morning, and Someday. I used to be really into them (think 6 years ago), you might remember their stuff.

I find the JJJ hottest 100 a fairly good guide to what was happening in alternative or rock music in a particular year, so have a look at the archives.

http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/history/

The only downside is you probably wont know a fair few of the songs because it's an Australian compiled list, but most of the important stuff made it on there.
