Got this from wikipedia on blink 182.

"The cover of Blink-182's Greatest Hits looks similar to The Offspring's Greatest Hits' cover. It is apparantly an homage to "real punk rock" according to Travis."

wow, i will respect blink 182 a little more even though i kind of think it is a coincidence that both their greatest hits are black with light gray

i think they just made the covers alike so dumb people would think they are buying the offspring cd... but that is just a theory, and blink looks up to the offspring when it comes to punk. no matter how punk they are, they still kept it up

Yeah, I bought both of them and I quickly noticed the similarity. Also, The Offspring's CMVC was way better than Blink's.

I have the feeling someone just updated the Wiki to say that after the debate over this in another topic, and that no one from Blink ever said anything like that.

.......

What I find funny is that both Green Day and The Offspring had hits in 94, both have a similar feel to them, yet Come out and Play is considered Punk and Basket Case is considered Pop Punk, or Pop rock...

To me, the singles on Smash are closer to grunge than punk.

they must love Nirvana too, as they ripped off some of the lyrics from Come As You Are for Adam's Song, and ripped off their crack-head smiley-face

Yes.

And Ignition, you're really stupid if you didn't even suspect that it was sarcasm. Jesus..

The Offspring have always played harder punk than Green Day. Green Day has always played pop punk. The Offspring used to play punk/metal, but now they play pop punk too.

Actually, Offspring DID have a lot of metal-style riffs.

Nah, I think self-titled was more hardcore punk. Splinter had some metallish stuff, though.

Self-titled was punk, but it had metal qualities. The riffage on a few songs was pretty metallish. I think they've always had a little bit of metal in them.
Back in 1995, Johnny Ramone criticized them for being a "heavy metal band playing punk music."

To be fair, some people call the Ramones pop-punk. I can see what you mean about self-titled, though, now that I think about it.

The Ramones are pop-punk. It's not a bad thing, you know. They play punk, but they are catchy.

I think the only "metal" parts in S/T would be in Demons and maybe Tehran.

This thread is dumb.

The Offspring as always had a bit of pop influence in their music, no matter how much you kids want to whine about how much pop-punk sucks. A lot of punk bands have similar influences in their music. It doesn't matter if they're punk, or pop-punk, or metal or whatever other goddamn genre you guys want to whine about. Do you like the music? Then why the hell should it matter what genre it is?

Drummerguy123
01-29-2006, 12:40 PM
I never said anything like that. I just said that they didnj't have as much metal influence as people say. I realize the pop sound in their music.

Jakebert
01-29-2006, 12:43 PM
Ignition and Smash have a lot of metal influence in the way they play their riffs and the way the songs are structured. That's the reason I really like a lot of the earlier stuff like that is because not a whole lot of bands mix metal and punk in a way that isn't bordering on thrash.

I've always known that they play a unique brand of punk/pop/metal/rock.

Why should it matter of what they play. It does it matter if Blink stole Offspring riffs or Offspring stole Green Day riffs or ripped Graetest Hits covers. I just can't figure out why people care about emo, emo/punk, punk/metel, punkrock, pop/punk. I love Blink 182 and Tom Delonge, and Blink probably does love the Offspring, because who doesn't?
