I hate pita. Errrrgh. =(

I'm a sandwich fiend though. One of many, many favorites:

Three slices of moderately toasted white bread, a thiiiiiiiiiiin layer of mayo on two slices (nothing worse than too much mayo, nothing better than juuuuuust the right amount), another thin layer of Dijon mustard on both sides of the middle slice, some deli turkey with provolone cheese on top of it on one side, the middle slice of bread on it, and more turkey + provolone on the other side.

Oh god yes.

Another major fave:

A roll (or bagel, or heck, even white or rye bread works), with a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry thin layer of mayo, three slices of swiss cheese, two slices of turkey, alternating one on top of the other. Then, a single piece of thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinly sliced tomato, all thrown togethr on a grilling machine 'till the swiss cheese melts.

Teh yumz.

Ooo Alfalfa sprouts are good...

MY favorite sangwhich is...

Thick ass Italian bread with:
prosciutto
roasted red peppers
parmigiano reggiano cheese....

Pretty simple really...sometimes I like to mix it up when Im at school seeing as they dont have any of the above...and thats usually when the Alfala sprouts comes into the picture...green olives, green pepper and onions...on some sort of meat...dunno..:P

Magdalena, do you make hummus or buy it? I know I tried store bought stuff once and it wasn't the greatest, but some stuff that various friends have made was very good.

I don't eat sandwiches very often, particularly tasty ones like those mentionned above.

Michelle's breakfast sandwich:
-toasted bread, bagel or english muffin
-butter AND mayonaise, a generous amount
-fried egg with processed cheese slice melted on top
-either a couple slices of bacon or ham, fried
-a couple slices of tomato
-salt and pepper

I'm also a huge fan of sliced tomato on pumpernickel with butter, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper.
SOOOOO not good for me.

i must shamefully admit that i've never made hummus. i wonder how it's done.

I've looked up recipes... sounds easy enough... just need to find a couple bizarre ingredients that I can't find at the grocery store, which is delaying my plans.

And hummus is easy to make, all you really need is chick peas and tahini.

Betty
02-06-2006, 11:09 PM
Yeah, it's the tahini I can't find at the grocery store... unless I'm just blind.

Sin Studly
02-06-2006, 11:10 PM
Tahini is exotic in your neck o the woods??? Maybe I'm just forgetting how many stinking Lebs we have in Australia.

Sunny
02-06-2006, 11:10 PM
Found the recipe.

3/4 cup dried chickpeas (175 g, 6 oz)
1 tsp salt
1-2 garlic cloves, crushed
1/2 cup plus 2 Tbsp tahini (150ml, 5 fl oz)
Juice of 2 to 3 lemons
1 Tbsp olive oil
Paprika (optional)
Finely chopped parsley (optional)

should be easy enough, i guess. beep.

Sin Studly

Use canned chick peas, not dried.

Sunny
02-06-2006, 11:26 PM
Ooh, good point. Dried chickpeas sound.. well.. too dry for the purpose.

I feel a little iffy about putting chopped parsley in, so I'll pass on that. I can always add it later to a smaller portion.

Sin Studly
02-06-2006, 11:27 PM
You boil the dried chickpeas for about 45 minutes and they moisten up, but I prefer to use canned anyways.

Fried pigs blood sausage and tomato sauce.

I'm one unhealthy motherfucker.

That shit is fucking DELICIOUS. Seriously. My grandma used to make that for me all the time, but without the tomato sauce. She got me hooked.

Betty

Yeah, that was pretty much the recipe I was gonna go by... need the garlic for sure. And probably no parsley or paprika.

Last night I made this "salsa".
-Chopped avocado
-Chopped tomato
-Chopped red onion
-Minced garlic
-Crumbled feta
-Red wine vinegar
-Olive oil
-Fresh parsley (but I didn't have any)
Cut it all up really small and mix it together. Eat it with pita... I'm so addicted.

Sunny

that sounds absolutely delicious. omg.

1 Hennebont baguette
A small bit of Sel Marin butter on each side of the sandwich
A bit of classic Dijon mustard on that.
....

I can't go on. I'm just going to go on about a sandwich I made last year where I just layered my favorite cheese, bread, mustard, butter and ham on a sandwich. I'm making myself too hungry because of the quality French-ness of it all.

I've never had hummus.

I need to correct that. Some, lovely day. Isn't hummus an Arabic thing?

WebDudette
02-07-2006, 01:15 AM
Yes it's Arabic. The fried blood and sausage sandwich sounds tantilizing of course all of the ones listed do but I would really like to try that.

Hummus is nice.

My favourite sandwhich:

Turkish bread
Avocado spread (mashed up avocado with lemon and a bit of salt)
Tender chicken pieces

Anything with avocado, you can't go wrong :D .

Blood sausage is indeed the food of kings.

And hummus is awesome, but baba ganoush is better.

Andy

Sounds like a pretty damn good sandwich. However, try and beat this:

beef, turkey, ham and cheese with lettuce and mayonnaise.

Unbeatable, especially when the bread is mildly toasted, OR:

cold chicken tikka with lettuce on white bread, with mint mayonnaise.

Just a little French prejudice. It's healthy.
Perfectly healthy, where would the world be without the Anglo/French divide?
And the divide between us and, basically, everyone else in the world.

Strangely enough, I thought Canada was one of the few countries in the world who likes us.
