So basically my school plays Hansons - MMMBop between every period, we have 8 minutes between each period, and throughout all of lunch until they get 2000 cell phones.

Are you saying they are attempting to coerce you into giving them cell phones?

Jebus

yeah, I'm not understanding the whole cell phone thing.

The whole idea is "make the pop stop" by donating 2000 cell phones. So yes there forcing us to listen to the song to raise 2000 cell phones for a scholarship program thing.

I heard about that. You can't explain though.

What they are doing is, they play MMMBop, and then people have to call in to make them stop playing it.

Ouch.

No, They are gonna play the song at any time there aren't classes going on until 2000 used cell phones are donated to the office so the school can afford to pay for 2 random students to get into college.

wait, the SCHOOL is distracting you while LEARNING, effectively reducing your ability to perform on STANDARDIZED TESTS, thus reducing their FUNDING. and they're doing this with your TAX DOLLARS.

They are trying to get people to give their phones? WTF?

That's different from other school's then though.

Yeah, apparently a teacher at my school had a daughter die and she keeps her memory alive by torturing kids into giving up there old phones.

Tizzalicious

They did it at a lot of school though (just the other way, where people call to make it stop), I read about it a few months ago.

Edit: An MMMBop is not torture!

How many students are there in your school?

Even if it were a song I like, 51 minutes of one song is to much for me.

Good point.

It's nice and cheerful though. Or maybe I just like it because of the memories. That's probably it.

Tizz, what was the point of the thing you were talking about?

WebDudette

I forget how many students we have. I know were 4A.

Tizz, what was the point of the thing you were talking about?

Raising money, I assume :p I don't remember, but I think they would get money for every call or something. It was "stop the pop" too, or actually, I thought it was "stop the bop".

WebDudette
02-07-2006, 01:02 AM
Ours may be "stop the bop" in any case it's extremely annoying and I'am not sure if 2000 kids even have used cell phones there willing to give away.

Tizzalicious
02-07-2006, 01:03 AM
Haha man. I would just be singing a long.

This will make people hate Hanson even more though :( Teh sadz.

Most the people at my school are already complaining about how stupid that "girl" is for making the song and it's been one day.

Tizzalicious
02-07-2006, 01:09 AM
How stupid are people, exactly? They are not serious, are they? And they've hear of it before, right?

Talk about not improving studying conditions.

I'am not so sure. They probably heard the chorus of the song before.

My school district is pretty much retarded. In sixth grade we cound't afford papper so we bought two 6th grade classes 30 laptops each.

Yes, Hanson is truly a terrible form of music. There is nothing good about it. Even when forced to hear it without knowing that it's hanson, one would think it's awful trash.

Our school did that for something....don't remember what. Worked though...friggin schools anyway!

If my school played MMMBop to get people to donate phones, I'd steal each cell phone donated just so they'd have to keep playing it!!

... If your school couldn't afford PAPER, how in the world would they afford to give each class 30 laptops?!

WebDudette
02-07-2006, 11:16 AM
We didn't have any money. But we got a donation and they bought laptops with it.

Alos I guess the person whos daughter died is just organizing the thing. The cell phones get sold for anywere between 2 and 50 dollars witch goes towards buying 2 5000$ scholarships. The phones are then donated to women who have been beaten and the phones are programed so they can only call 9-11. At least thats what I make of it.

There still playing it we have 300 phones out of 2000.

WebDudette

There probably gonna end up playing it till May (Summer Vacation). Because all the phones anyone had are already in the office and we still need 1700.

You should have had this when I did my write down the lyrics of MMMBop contest-thread. You would have won!

My school is currently doing the same thing. I wonder if they got the idea from your school, or if it's a nation-wide thing? But still, extremely annoying. They just loop like the chorus over and over and over allll day.....

Hahahahaha! That is retarded.

And dude! You should have called your county's board of ed and reported that shit! There is no way anyone should be forced to listen to Hanson. If McCain would have been president he would have abolished that.

you guys will probably end up with more phones though, i know if my school did that, i'd be stealing peoples phones just to get them to turn hanson off

Alright, so today they turned off the song. Not because we raised enough, but because some kid destroyed the iPod, and the speakers and threatened to plant a bomb if they didn't turn it off.

And yes, I'm being serious.

Oh joy! My school is now doing this but with It's a Small World After All. Though, they don't do it as often. Only between some classes it seems. When they did Mmmbop it was every break including all of lunch.

Llamas
03-11-2008, 08:06 PM
Oh God. I at least can appreciate Mmmbop in all its silly glory, even though it really is obnoxious and somewhat terrible... but it's a small world... that would actually drive me insane. That's just wrong. But at least it's not as often.

You know what would really be annoying/awesome? There was an episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog where Courage was at some theme park. I remember a song, similar to It's A Small World, but the only lyrics were "It's a gerbil world, it's a gerbil world".

Also if my school played Whalers on the Moon all the time that would pretty much be the best thing ever.

JohnnyNemesis
03-11-2008, 08:15 PM
Yeah, I'm 100% with Brianna on this one. Sweet jesus. I'd kill someone by now. Fuck, I've been close to killing someone when the song comes on in department stores and shit.

WebDudette

We're Whalers on the moon, we carry a harpoon.

I could get used to that.
