I have noticed that just about every Offspring show starting from the San Berubin in 1987 to current, that Dexter, Nooldes, and Greg almost always tune a half step down. I think maybe because it is easier to sing a half step down or maybe because it sounds heavier. Does anyone know?

You notice odd things...87? Damn man. You must have a lot of free time to notice that they tune a half step down in every show for the past 19 years

I remember reading an interview somewhere saying that Dexter tunes it down so it's easier for him to sing live. Can't remember where, though.

Yes, I noticed from the dvds, all the songs are a half step down.

Slappy, are you on myspace and do you have a picture of a blue bass on it?

I was at one of their shows during the Splinter tour (the one at Hammerstein in NY) and I noticed during the Worst Hangover Ever, they played the trumpet track, while tuned down, so the trumpets were in a different key than the guitars. Sounded pretty bad, but I guess they don't care too much.

A lot of bands tune down half a step when they play live. The rationalization is that most singers go flat when singing live, and as a singer, I can attest to this. So, that's probably why.

Yea..I noticed it especially on the 'gotta get away' especially...I was playing along to it and realised...

As people have said, it's easier for Dexter to sing the 'higher' notes a 1/2 step down.

Punk rock bands usually do that. Sun Eats Hours plays half step down live too. It's easier to sing, definitely. But there are songs that don't sound so cool that way. In my opinion, Can't Repeat is definitely one of them. I didn't like the live singing, it lacks energy when tuned half a step down.

When in Rockinidro 2005, the bass and guitars in Bad Habit weren't tuned at the same step. Oh man, it was one of the most fucked up live performances of a song I've ever seen.

i read in an interview that they do that so dexter can sing without sounding like a teenage boy.
