Yeah I'm glad they are re-recording it but we already have 2 versions.. I don't see too much of a point. I would of been alot more happier if he would of said they are working on an album more like Ignition. But yeah, I want to hear this new version and I would like them to do "LAPD" again.

:D

Now THIS is what I was referring to that was lacking in the last two most recent journals. News.

:) This is something substantial that we can get excited about until the record production kicks into gear.

Nice one, props to Dex on the heads-up.

Now let's analyse every little detail geekily and see how close we get to the finished product, shall we? Haha. Let the discussion begin!

P.S. Whoever said the production quality on Ignition was crappy is laying into the X pills a little too much. It was less clean, but it was still high-quality as far as indie records go. Here's hoping D/M isn't *too* "studio-soundy" like most of the recent stuff, like someone else said.

And does anyone have any idea whether or not they're sticking with Brenden O'Brien for the new disc? It's about time for a change, as far as their history goes: catalogue seems to change producers every 2 or 3 albums. I wouldn't mind Dave Jerden back again, but once more...the past tends to indicate it'll be someone new entirely.

Kinda exciting. I like Brenden's work, and he seems like a cool guy, but I think we've had enough of that "clean Pearl Jam-y" sound for a while, no? Let's here some guitar beefiness with less synths and studio effects. Rick Rubin would be a dream, but I can't see that happening, for some reason. Did anyone else like Butch Vig's work with them post-Co1? I seem to be the only one who dug his "Total Immortal" interpretation, along with the other tracks he did.

I actually haven't liked Brendan O'Brien's work on Offspring albums much. With other bands, it works out great, but I'm not sure he's the producer to really bring out the best of the band.

But Dexter said they plan to record some new songs DURING the summer instead of playing festivals... that would mean we probably wouldn't expect an album until fall at the soonest.

Recording Dirty Magic in the new equipment, it would sound awesome! It sounds awesome still when it was recorded in -91, maybe it sounds better cause it sounds "old", maybe the new wont sound so great because of that...don't know. But what ever other song they will re-record is the same...they are all awesome!

Goddammit, Ignition wasn't bad-quality recording. I hope they DON'T make it too "clean" sounding, it would ruin the track in my opinion. "Dirty Magic" sort of needs to be raw, it's part of its appeal.

And yeah, I agree with the couple of people who said they'll probably use Jerry Finn for the new album. Which I'm a little worried about. He's a good producer, sure, but is very similar to O'Brien. I'm not sure he's the right guy.

Haha, Thom Wilson would be a funny tribute to the old days. Won't happen, though. ;)

I'm just hoping for someone new entirely who happens to not be named Jerry Finn. :)

I'd settle on Vig, too.

What i think they are trying to do is get one of their biggest underground hits and turn it into a mainstream hit. Obviously, it's 14 years too late to release the original Dirty magic as a single from Ignition, but if they re-do it and put it on a new cd, they will get that opportunity again.

Jerden = cool bananas.

But I can't see it happening again. Who are some other good producers they've never used? Apart from the "big guns" like Vig, Rubin, and O'Brien I'm not really too familiar with the influential and talented people in that particular scene.

*laughs* Get it produced by the Chemical Brothers or something. That'd be so hideously awesome. I wouldn't know whether to cry, or grin stupidly for a week, if that were announced.

An entire record of "Living In Chaos" would ensue.
