I think I know the voice... I don't think it's a voice, though, I think it's a guitar sound. Okay, like there's the first few bars that have the chord progression with the picked riff thing over the top, then the guitars get low and play the same two chords for a few bars with the heavy rhythm... and then right before dexter starts singing, there's the "oooohwaaaayoooooh" thing... can kinda sound like a voice, but it definitely doesn't sound human, it sounds like a guitar effect to me...

unless you're referring to something else.

You guys are idiots, it says "I Realize"

Check a lyrics site like plyrics.com or something

Llamas

umm.
1. we're not idiots for not being able to tell that
2. it doesn't sound ANYTHING like "i realize". it's the same number of syllables, but that's it
3. none of the lyrics sites I checked say that, and it definitely doesn't say that in the booklet. maybe you found one site that says it, doesn't mean that's right...

SplinterByMyOwnDesign

I bet you it is right.

http://www.plyrics.com/lyrics/offspring/raceagainstmyself.html

Not to mention it fits in with the other lyrics.

Llamas
02-10-2006, 10:42 PM
it does fit with the lyrics, and there's a chance it's right, but there's no need to call anyone an idiot... especially if only one site says that.

Wow, an unnofficial lyrics site said it was I realize, we should all believe it.

I'm almost certain it's not a voice, anyway. As far as I'm concerned, it can say "I fucked your dad, you piece of shit", because if it's not in the lyrics book that came with the CD, it dosen't say shit.

Neocon58 speaks the truth, that magnificent eloquent bastard.

To him you listen, random titty-jongles!

(...Titty-jongles? Yay, making words up is quite fun.)

It may be a guitar sound, but keep in mind that you can modify voices on computers and stuff like that.. It does sound like "I realize", that was the first thing I thought of when I first heard the song. But it is most likely that is somekind of guitar sound..

I originally thought it was just a sound they used to make the song cooler, now I guess if you listen to it, it is I Realize.

sean: where in the lyrics book does it say that?? mine doesn't have that printed...
nineteen: yeah when you listen carefully and know what you're listening for, it's distinguishable. It's definitely not obvious, though.
revolver: you know, I'm getting so DAMN sick of idiots on this board, calling people idiots or dumb or stupid because they know something other people don't. You said "if you listen carefully, it says I realize". Therefore, it's not obvious. And I bet you wouldn't have figured that out if a website hadn't told you. And not everyone uses the same lyrics pages. I don't use Plyrics, so I'm dumb because I use a different lyric site that doesn't have lyrics that aren't in the official booklet on it?

Listen to the song, it is "I Realize", whether you hear something different or not

you obviously didn't get what my post was about. It is noticably "I realize" when you know what you're listening for. If a website or someone else told you that's what it says, you can hear it. BUT it's NOT obvious. If you're just listening to it, you wouldn't just be like "oh he's saying I realize". You're the idiot here. I was just upset because it's not like you guys just knew he said "i realize". You figured it out because a website told you so. Other people aren't STUPID because they didn't visit that website. I am agreeing that it sounds like "I realize", and it makes sense in the context, but god, it's NOT obvious.

Wow, this reminds me of the "Help" in Gotta Get Away, which I still think is a guitar sound. I never noticed the "I realize", but I've heard of it. I should check it out.

Thats funny cause I was the one who started that thread, the "help" sound is a little more hidden...."I realize" is obvious

there's 3 reliable sites that i use they all say the same thing and i hear everything depicted in those lyrics so you guys ( everone who hears I Realise ) are not alone in hearing it ... my advice is to possibly put it to a vote for Dexter on songs and get the answer once and for all from him

I noticed the sound but always thought it was just some scream. Just to add to the music. It is really hard to make out "help" in that.

smartest thing I've heard in this thread :)

And most of my posts aren't long enough or have seperate topics that I can divide into paragraphs.

I don't wanna be the shit pickle in your theory, but have you listened to Americana? The lyric booklet does not have the words "Fuck You" between the stanzas. As far as the sound, I think it's just "I Realize" with that rippling effect on it.

I got mine in a virgin megastore about two weeks after they released it in the UK. I can't remember when that was but it was coming up to xmas 2003.god that was awhile ago, splinter still seems so recent to me.

anyways, as i said, soon as im home ill scan it and upload it on to yousendit.com or something.
