I used the search button, and found nothing for this topic... I am wondering if anyone here as any of the offspring's tribute albums.

And there's also one just called "a tribute to the offspring".

the string one seems like it might be good... I really liked the string tribute to tool so I'd think it'd be similarly good. Anyway, does anyone have any of these, and if so, are any of them any good?

I've heard a few tracks, the ones done by bands covering Offspring are pretty much all terrible, I havent heard the string ones, I'd like to hear those.

right well the string quartet one is great in my opinion, the kids arnt alright sounds so amazing, well anyway i have that one, a guy off these forums sent me it. the one where bands are covering the offspring is stupideous, on have you ever the women cant even breath by the sounds of it, its bad bad bad, i have this one too, and the guitar on ive heard clips of it its pretty rubbish just people playing guitars no singing i dont think.

wow, the string quartet is really good. Stand-outs are "the kids aren't alright" and "self esteem". Very well done. Thanks for posting those!!! Is it worth it to download the other tribute albums?

that's weird. how'd an orchestra manage to pull off songs by the offspring so well?

and how come none of the cover artists pulled off the song like they actually go? they all suck.

Llamas
02-12-2006, 10:17 PM
well for one, the string quartet isn't an orchestra :P For two, they're a professional group that does this for a living. I think most of the "a string tribute to" are done by the same quartet, so they're damn good at it. Plus, it's not hard for an orchestral group to pull off rock music, due to the fact that rock music is SUPER SUPER easy, especially when compared with classical. The string quartet has a lot musical talent than pretty much any rock band... but you'll never see a rock band good enough to do a classical piece...

at the same time, I have no idea why neither of the other groups were able to cover the songs... I also don't know why the hell they bothered to destroy the songs, when they seem to LIKE the offspring (hence the tribute album). Assholes.

hey what in the world is the last track of the string tribute? it's labelled as "off string". I get the horrible pun, but I don't get what the song actually is... anyone know?

The String Quartet Tribute is being in my possession for about 2 months an it's really great. :) And I also like it's CD cover (looks quite similiar to Ixnay). Greatest Tribute Ever is not bad, but it's another style. And the others are not so good.

hey what in the world is the last track of the string tribute? it's labelled as "off string". I get the horrible pun, but I don't get what the song actually is... anyone know? Off String isn't The Offspring song. It's String Quartet's original composition.

alright, I figured they wrote it, but I thought maybe it was some sort of medley where they changed stuff around and made it their own. I didn't know they put their own thing on the albums.. I wonder why.

Holy cow, I can't figure out why you all hate the guitar tribute album!!! I've only listened to "come out and play" and "cool to hate" so far... but they're so good! I like that they aren't exactly like the real songs. They did a little of their own interpretation to make it an original cover. I think that's really creative and I'm a fan :) I don't like it when covers sound exactly like the original (I'm a believer by smash mouth, anyone?). Thanks for the upload :)

I love the string ones...they are so unusual and cool :D

I think I like the guitar one more, only because I've never heard anything like it. I've heard that string quartet do other bands (they've done tool and incubus for sure). They're really good at it, but this guitar one is so different... I really like it :)

Llamas
02-13-2006, 03:46 PM
okay while I liked the guitar tribute album (and obviously the string album), the "greatest tribute to the offspring ever" album BLOWS. There's not a good cover on it. Ugh. What a waste of time :(

The Mad Posse

The greatest tribute ever should be called the shittest tribute album ever. They take amazing offspring songs and make it sound like slipknot. Absolute shite.

Hey, why do you think Killboy Powerhead was covered when The Offspring covered it from the Didjits?

Llamas
02-13-2006, 09:46 PM
same with "feelings" covered by that shitty rap group... made me wanna vomit.

Drummerguy123
02-13-2006, 09:50 PM
No, I mean The Didgits did the original and Feelings was originally done by some guy in the 60's or 70's but with different lyrics. I forgot who it was.

Llamas
02-13-2006, 09:53 PM
yeah I'm saying it weird that if you're gonna cover a band, why cover a cover, and not an original? Both of those seemed really dumb.

JohnnyNemesis
02-13-2006, 09:58 PM
and how come none of the cover artists pulled off the song like they actually go?

...what would be the point of covering the song without changing a few things?

I think the covers are actually pretty good. The string quartet tribute is PHENOMENAL!!! Especially All I Want and Self Esteem.

Drummerguy123
02-13-2006, 10:44 PM
Yes, The String Quartet i have had for a while and i absolutely love it.

JohnnyNemesis
02-14-2006, 09:36 AM
Indeed. It's great.

I think the covers are actually pretty good.

I think I'd like to take that back and say "okay" instead of "good". Some are quite interesting, most are annoying because they either don't try hard enough to be different or they try TOO hard to be different. The Self Esteem cover by Kuma, and the Session cover by Endless are quite good though. The Beheaded cover is horrible, but at least its funny.

i think feelings was made by julio inglesias (dont know how to spell it)

JohnnyNemesis
02-14-2006, 01:09 PM
Feelings done by Julio Iglesias?

...HAKSAHKDSH:HFJHF What the FUCK?!

I...I'm missing a joke right?

Feelings is a classic song by Morris Albert. The original version of Killboy Powerhead was a Didjits song.

It's a cultural thing, I guess. So no, you're not stupid.

I heard a funny cover of "come out and play" by apologetix. they changed the lyrics so it's about seperation of church and state... I thought it was fun.

Wow. I just listened to the entire "greatest Tribute" and I must say, I was utterly disgusted. The only fairly decent track was TKAA because the girls singing managed to change it (acoustic) without altering the mood or purpose of the songs. The guitar one is okay and I absolutely love the String Quartet tribute. All of the songs are great.

Llamas
02-15-2006, 11:24 PM
I agree fully about the greatest tribute one... the TKAA one was good. the rest all SUCKED. especially the "feelings" one.

i really like a few tracks on the greatest tribute album - the string quartet did a really decent job on the tracks and i agree that TKAA is a stand out track....the offspring should re-record it with the quartet (that's my opinion and i dont really give a shit if anyone doesnt agree with me)
