Hello. I am new on this forum, but I have been listening to The Offspring for a while. I currently own all of their albums except Co1 and Splinter (yes, including Ignition and S/T), and for now I'm only planning on getting one more. I'm not sure which one I should get, though. I've heard every song on Splinter and most on Co1, but I want to know this: which one do other fans prefer?

Thanks in advance!

I'd go for Conspiracy of One; longer record, better overall songs.

I agree with Tijs

co1: 8/13 songs are good. Longer album. None of the songs are stand-outs. This album feels very over-produced and written to be promoted. Too generic.
splinter: 7/12 songs are good. Shorter album (I usually turn it off after Lightning Rod). Has atleast 4 stand-out songs. This album felt much more powerful and it felt like they wrote it like the older ones, less for promotion. Less generic.

Basically, if you rated each song on each album 1-10, and then took the average, splinter would come out on top (because I don't think co1 has any songs that would rank a 10, while splinter has atleast 2 or 3). But it depends on what you're going for. If Americana is your favorite album, get co1. If an older album was your favorite, get Splinter.

Sorry this post is so long :-/

I'd say Co1 because splinter has a lot of good songs but the last song lets it down a lot and there are some great song s on co1 plus a bonus track and a CD extra all in all a great album

momo1tx

What is the bonus track on Co1 (I haven't heard the actual CD, just the songs on the website)?

The hidden tracks on my friends CO1 were Staring at the Sun and All I Want. Both live. But when I bought my copy I didnt get any bonus tracks

^^ huck it was specially released to some. i like co1 better, only because splinter wasn't satisfying enough. i usually just skip worst hangover ever, hit that, and when you're in prison, giving the album only, like 10 songs, which is less than thirty minutes of a cd. co1 has a more fulfilling quality.

Conspiracy Of One is better. Better and more songs.

Conspiracy of One. Easy. Everyone seems to agree too.

Thanks for your help! I think I'm going to get Co1 now, and get Splinter later when I have a little more loose cash.

Conspiracy Of One is so much better than Splinter. Better overall songs, longer, less blatant novelty songs (I'm not liking When You're In Prison, shittiest way to end an album ever.) CO1 is so underappreciated.

Splinter fo' sho'. More powerful songs and really powerful lyrics. And has nobody noticed that S/T is shorter than Splinter by about 3 minutes?

I think I'm one of 3 people on here who like splinter better... I'm really shocked...

I think I said Splinter because it was their first album i got and I just fell in love with the sound.

Llamas

huh. maybe. americana was my first, and I loved it and immediately bought more of their albums, and it's not my favorite... though I think that it being my first is what puts it above co1 and splinter. I think splinter is genuinely better than co1.

Does it really matter which one you get? I mean the CD's aren't THAT expensive, you're gonna have both of them sooner or later

Hux
02-14-2006, 04:51 AM
Yes true, you're probably gonna end up getting both, why wouldn't you.

offspringer24

I second that.
but MMA is standout enough! then Vultures, Living in chaos, Denial, Revisited.
Splinter has great potencial! It should have been longer.

Dammit, I Changed Again is by far the best song on Conspiracy of One in my opinion and is therefore very much a 'stand out song'. That song would be the only reason I would listen to Conspiracy. Whereas on Splinter there'd be 'The Noose', 'Long Way Home', 'Race Against Myself', 'Never Gonna Find Me' and 'Lightning Rod'.

i say splinter. has songs like the noose, long way home, hit that, cgmhay, race against myself, never gonna find me and lightning rod. those were the type of songs that i wanted offspring to write again. though hit that is pop punk i really like it. its very catchy, true lyrics and yer great

I `d choose Splinter, very good songs, exellent lyrics. One of the bests Offspring`s albums, eventhough it is kinda short.

Conspiracy of one... Yep, I Know that many people here hate it, but.. It has special delivery :D and pretty good songs, in fact, one of my favorites

Splinter... starts great... and then RAM, Worst hangover, Dahui and When you're in prison dump everything

Hux
02-24-2006, 08:19 PM
Race Against Myself is such an awesome song. It certainly does not dump Splinter.

That's a tough question when you think about it.

Conspiracy of One has no stand out tracks, but no ones that straight out suck. Everything is about a 5/10. Nothing bad, nothing great. Just generic, mediocore, and formulaic songs that can be an ok listen if you're really not asking for much more than a good background noise album.

Splinter on the other hand, has some really standout songs like Lightening Rod and The Noose, but also has some pure garbage like Hit That and The Worst Hangover Ever. There's a few middle ground songs, but for the most part it goes back and forth between good and shitty. It's less consistant than Conspiracy of One, but the good songs are better than that album as a whole.

Really, they both have a good amount of faults, and you just have to pick between those 2 faults on the lesser of 2 evils if you're choosing between the two.

I agree, jackbert. I guess for some reason, I personally go for the extremes. That's why, although Ignition has no sucky songs on it while Ixnay has some of the band's most amazing ones ever and some less great ones, Ixnay is my preferred album. I take splinter over co1. I definitely prefer to listen to it... for the 7 good songs, and skip over the shit.

Jakebert
02-25-2006, 05:31 PM
I'm the same way. I can't listen to an album full of mediocore songs because it just bores me. I'd rather skip a few songs to get to a really good song.
