I found this thing where, when you remove all of Garfield's speech/thought bubbles, it makes Jon look so much more pathetic, and the comic is so much funnier. Check it out for yourselves:

I wonder if this works with Calvin and Hobbes.

The Context in Cavlin in Hobbes is what makes it so awesome. So I doubt it.

This really is brilliant. They have to have Jon in 'em to really work, though - for his dialogue to suddenly become the focus of the strip. If the strip's mainly supposed to be about Garfield, the stripped strips just become a series of run-of-the-mill sight gags. If the originaly strip centers around the interaction between Garfield and Jon, it's morphed into an oddly obsessive study on the life of one pathetic homebody as he relates it to his only friend in the world, a silent housecat. It's also become reason #487 why I love the internet.

see, what i find funny is how this grad student and i did our lab in latex with fancy color three-d graphs and shit, table of contents and all. i said we should have it bound and charge the prof a printing fee of 20 bucks to have us turn it in.

oh well =/

The only really funny one is the third one. The others are kinda lame.

Mannen som blev en gris

You liked the third one the most? That's my least favourite of those four, but whatever.

0r4ng3
03-06-2006, 12:25 PM
I'm saying, it's the only one that makes sense, given the method of removing Garfield's thought bubbles. The other ones are unaffected.

Am I the onlly person here who doesn't like Garfield?

Calvin and Hobbes pwns all.

Mannen som blev en gris
03-06-2006, 12:31 PM
Are we talking about the same third one? The third one = "simple man need woman". That one makes sense?

Jakebert: No, I don't usually like it either.

0r4ng3
03-06-2006, 12:33 PM
It's the one that's the most effected by removing Garfield's lines. The others work just as well, whether or not Garfield speaks (err, thinks). Maybe the fourth one works, too.

Honestly, I think the first one is the funniest.

Dammit what's the name of the cartoon with the kid and his Tiger toy that he thinks is real? (and not Winnie the Pooh ha)... Shit, have one of the comics at home but that's about 100 odd miles away and can't remember the title :/

Brilliant though haha.

Aw, I've only got 3 giant ones. But I also have Revenge of the Babysat and Something Under the Bed is Drooling.

Also, HP Lovecraft was a genius and I'm glad to see his work used in such an excellent way.
