In the Live in Budokan DVD, Portnoy and Rudess go into this extra jam session during the middle of Beyond This Life. It just simply owns in so many levels that I had to post it here.

Petrucci had his own little part in the jam right before this but I didn't feel like adding the whole thing.

Believe it or not, I've started liking Sonata Arctica more than Dream Theater since seeing them live. That was still great though. I couldn't listen in much detail, as I have a huge migraine, but I will again tomorrow.

I remember time when you used to be cool. Remember those times? It feels like it was just yesterday.

eh, whatever. I don't like Dream Theater as much as I used to either.

Well, the drummer is the best part of Dream Theater, but at the same time, the keyboardist (?) is the worst. So if this would have been JUST a drumsolo, it would've been a "http://www.offspring.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif", but since I can't take keyboardists seriously, it's just some sort of a ..."http://www.offspring.com/forums/images/icons/icon13.gifhttp://www.offspring.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif", or something.

What put Sonata Arctica ahead is the fact that Kakko sounds a whole lot better live than LaBrie does. And they're not as pretentious.

I disagree. Rudess is excellent, even if he's not playing your style. He's probably my favorite member of Dream Theater.

Is it only him or all keyboardists that you can't take seriously? That wasn't his usually style though. He could be a bit more metal if you know what I mean but you're probably refering to something else. I actuall think the bassist is the weakest link of the band. He doesn't really stand out much often.

oh yeah, speaking of bassists. I finally listened to that flight of the bumblebee thing from Manowar. Good stuff. http://www.offspring.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

Myung's good, just not.. Dream Theater-esque. He did write Learning to Live though, and I love him for it.

Yeah, I wasn't just referring to him, I meant all keyboardists. Keyboards are a bit... I don't know really. When they're just there to add some sort of a background melody or effect or something, they're OK, but when they are played as a "real" instrument, I don't usually like it. I mean.... "Jump!".

And you listened to it now, huh? It's good, I know. Here's another one. (http://s6.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0EZRTSOCDM4FX20WKYV3ZT8MOX) First I just thought it was funny, then I realised that it's actually pretty damn good.

Keyboards are a real instrument, what makes them not?

Gay. Seriously though, I simply find keyboards... lame. Don't really know how to explain it.

A lot of keyboard solos trump the guitar solos that accompany them for many different bands.

Bump, because I want to know what Jebus thinks about the song I uploaded. I also think that the other Dream Theater fans here should see this (Joy, Sinister, where are you?).

AAE: um.... yeah. But seriously, what do you mean?

Mannen, it was cool but I don't know. I just got bored of it after a minute. I tend not to like stuff with only one instrument unless it's piano or classical guitar.

basicly, keyboard solos sometime are better than the guitar solo in certain songs.
for example, the keyboard parts in the Blind Faith absolutely dominate the guitar solo (instrumental section starts at the 5 minute mark)

Yeah, it's the same for me. I can usually stand solos up to 5 minutes or something, but when they're longer (like the Billy Sheehan solo someone posted here) it doesn't matter how good it really is, since it's simply too long.
