I'm interested to know if any of you guys have seen this movie. It is released today in Australia and I am dying to see it. It looks like its gonna be another "Saw" type movie. If you've seen it give your reviews.

it wasn't even shocking, just stupid. yeah, i saw saw too. a friend of mine that's in the army was on leave and *really* wanted to see it for some reason, so i went with him. it was bad, really bad. hostel was worse. it's truly up there with 'from justin to kelly' in terms of horrible.

Saw = Seven with shit dialogue and shit acting.I agree the acting in Saw left a lot to be desired, although I thought the dialogue was alright.

I dunno. That scene where Justin melt's Kelly's face with a blowtorch was pretty awesome.

I saw Saw (lolz), and I thought it was alright. Within the genre, of course - so overall, it was mediocre. Watcheable, but nothing special. Hostel, however, looks like the worst pile of shit since Freddy Got Fingered.

Anyone seen Ichi the Killer? My friend was telling me it was great in terms of shock value but the plot was just pretty meh. I need download it later.

just because a movie is the best within a shitty genre doesn't make it good. hostel sucked ass. saw sucked ass. nothing changes that. saying "but in the context of horror movies..." is just fucking stupid. it's no different from getting a gold in the special olympics.

New Horror (or Horrorporn) movies shit me. I'm so sick of dingy settings and puke-green lighting and endless minutes of people screaming while being slowly killed. This shit ain't scary, it's just...unenjoyable. Horror movies are supposed to be fuckin' fun, not make you want to take a shower with your clothes on.

I saw Cabin Fever. Eli Roth is not talented. Pass.

and se7en is better than saw in more than just better acting and dialog. se7en, you know, didn't have a stupid, contrived plot; it didn't didn't have pointless, gratuitous violence; etc.

And most of all, the dingy set design and gross lighting worked in Seven because it hadn't already been done by 100 other horror movies at the time.

No genre in film has more possiblities than horror and no genre constantly blows it by making the same crap everyone else is making more than horror.

So, I hate shitty shitty Hollywood horror movies. But I'll check it out, just because it's got oldschool Slovak bands and music and setting in it, apparently.

And some of our people are bitching because it shows us as a bad shithole. What I read about it is not true so yeah.

There is a new movie called "Hostal" or something, it's about some guy or something

It's nothing like SAW. Well, the gore is. But the story is ... different. I wouldn't recommend it. Unless, of course, you enjoy seeing people getting their face burned off, eyes removed, toes cut off, achilles tendons being sliced, etc.

I refuse watching horror movies as I get scared easily :(

How un-Slavic of me :(

Shits indeed, but scary too.

And yes, we know.

Yes, the setting does. But it was filmed mainly in Prague. And Slovaks are pissed off it apparently portrays us as a land of whores and all that shit. Meanwhile this is a conservative Catholic country. Hah, I have to see it. The music's Slovak too.

My best friend's ex-bf lives in Prague. We were going to go there to see everything. She was teaching me some Czech... but damn that language is beyond complicated. It's so pretty there, though.

the_GoDdEsS
02-23-2006, 05:47 AM
Prague is wonderful and classy. And both Czech and Slovak are rather difficult to learn. Especially if someone wants to speak them fluently. But all effort's appreciated and the locals would like you for it. We're rather hospitable, both Czechs and us. :P

02-23-2006, 05:50 AM
Oh, really? I figured you'd try to send me to get my face burned off. >.<

harrr... she was telling me that there are about 14 different tenses for every single word. But I do know how to say "kiss" and "kisses" ! *proud* haha.

the_GoDdEsS
02-23-2006, 05:56 AM
Tenses? Nah, just three. But maybe aspects of tenses. And all the verbs change forms according to person, number, case. So do adjectives and nouns. So yeah. But I've met foreigners who speak it fluently which I totally admire.

The only thing that really scared me in hostel is that the Dutch apperently speak German. Or maybe that's just an Amsterdam thing.

im sure this could be in another thread. the movie is more like a low budget soft porn flick and is only any good for the last half hour or so.

What the fuck are you talking about? It was so stupid that it was funny. If they were going for "how annoying and disbelievable can our main characters be?", then yes, it was a monstruous success. It was laughable. The plot was completely nonsensical and the characters were just annoying. I was so glad that asshole got locked into the room forever with the rotting corpse, I was sick of him after 10 minutes.

Even me, the person who has the worst taste in movies disliked Saw. How could a normal person actually like it? And call other people pussy for not liking it?

I heard from a friend that saw Hostel, that it was just a really bad porno and tons of torturing. More porno than torturing.

Sunny
05-09-2006, 03:51 PM
porno? they showed some tits.. and that's about it..

and the movie in general was kinda gross and i almost threw up. i'm also freaked out by the possibility of a thing like that existing in the real world.
