Hey, they're actually pretty good. And they kept their promise of having solos when I asked them in their forum! Steady Ground > Offspring

Ron still sounds pretty lame in here too though. Not much of his style has change since he was in Offspring

Yeah, I was a little disappointed with his drumming too. Come on Ron, bust out that old stuff like Kill the president.

Shit, I thought they'd be a great band after the first song ("You Better Close Your Eyes"). The other two disappointed me.

And the drumming is fucking boring. Ron got PLENTY of chances to prove that he could drum better than that in the Offspring, and even then you couldn't help but think that he could have done more.

leave off ron! he does the most important thing, he plays for the song rather than overplaying to make himself some good! despite what you think of his parts, they fit!

He doesn't have to overplay to be good. His drumming was just so unoriginal. He probably had a part in the songwritting though so he gets props for that.

I dunno. When you consider Ron's age and the success he's already enjoyed, you would think the only band worth joining at this point would be something absolutley amazing...and this band just isn't, by anyone's standards. I wonder if Ron feels stupid about leaving.

I ripped them too but 256kbps CBR MP3 stereo. Averagely 5 Mb.

I mailed them about coming here to tour, and this is was RON'S reply!

"Hey Dan, We would love to play there but as of now we are focusing on the record and it could take quite some time to get out there. Anyway, we'll see you asap. Later man, and thanks for the support!
Ron"

How many of you guys have got an e-mail from Ron Welty? ;)

I got two replies from Ron a few months after he left. And I guess one or two replies on their forums. It's really cool that he does actually contact his fans, I wonder why he didn't do it while being in the Offspring.

On their forums it's mainly George who replies though.

Tijs

I just noticed they changed the layout on MySpace.

www.myspace.com/steadyground

edit: And I got another reply from our dear Ron Welty:

Hello.

I've recently heard the demos on MySpace. I gotta say, they sound pretty cool. The more I listen to your songs the more catchy they become. I'd love to hear more demos very soon, I'll be waiting for them. And I'm sure I'll buy your album if I see it in the stores over here. Which I doubt though... but who knows. Though I must say, I expected a bit more on the drumming parts, sounds a bit too simple to me. I know they're only demos, so I'll just wait until I hear the final version of the songs before I really go judging on the band.

And if I'm not mistaking, you guys did a gig a while ago at some airport or something, isn't there any material from that show that can be put online? I guess it would be awesome to see Steady Ground do a live show. Even if it's on video or just audio.

Anyway, I'll keep myself updated through the website, MySpace and this messageboard.

Greets,
- Tijs

Hey Tijs, I'm glad you like the songs. We do not have anything to put online from our live shows but maybe in the future we will do something like that.
As far as the drumming being simple... while we are working on the vocals I like to keep them simple so they don't get in the way of the vocal. Once they are settled I will go back through and find my spots. I don't expect to add TOO much though unless the song calls for it. For the most part, drums are a supporting instrument and the song itself comes first. Later man,
Ron

Tijs
03-12-2006, 06:04 AM
Cool, studio footage.

Too bad you don't have any live material for the website. But what about studio videos, where we can see the band hang out and do a bit of recording maybe, so we get to know the other band members aswell, that should be kinda cool, don't you think?
And I agree that the drums are a supporting instrument, but the drums can add so much to a song. Especially when it comes to rock music. But yeah, I understand your point of view, focusing on one thing first and then on another thing.
Oh, Rick Stitch's voice really reminds of a Dutch band called 'Green Lizard'. Great band aswell. Just thought I'd mention it.

laters!
- Tijs

We do have footage of us in the studio on the way... The plan is to put up a clip every couple weeks (a sort of "the making of the album") and then when the record comes out it will have all the clips on it. You guys will be able to see how the record unfolded and the band in its rawest form (all the good and bad).

==================================================

Hemi_Esteemed_Kid
Hi guys,
We're gonna perform this thursday night. At the weekend, we were hangin' w/ my bandmates. I put "I Can't Contain Myself" into the playlist. They liked it, then we fired our lead guitar; so we need some more covers to complete our playlist.
Would you mind sending the tabs & lyrics of "I Can't Contain Myself"?
See you around...

Hey, I read the bulletin on MySpace and I was wondering if there will be audio/video/photo footage for us to see. I'm really looking forward to see you guys performing.
I also heard the new song 'Pick it Up' on MySpace, it sounds pretty cool. Keep it up and keep us updated!

We haven't had a chance to put that stuff together yet. Just trying to get this record out to you guys. I'm glad you like Pick It Up.

New album coming 2007.

They've changed their 'website' (http://www.steadyground.com) again, this is the 50th 'album/website coming soon'-sorta site. Free ringtone though.

They're certainly better than AVA.

I'm working on it, but every audio program I used so far turns into a Windows Vista crash. I'm trying a little detour now.

I LOVE this band. In all honesty, I really think that I would feel the same way about them even if I didn't already know and love Ron.

It's been four years.

Release the fucking thing already, Ron. Bah.

The new lineup (Ron and George aside) sucks ass, too. Trendies.

I Just Can't Contain Myself and Pick It Up are proper songs, I might even buy the album if it'll be out some day. It has taken some time indeed, I have lost my faith.

Maybe... he's expecting that Dexter beg him to go back to the Offspring

Goddammit. Rick Stich left. I liked his grungy voice. It's just not the same without him... :(

EDIT: and that new guy looks like a douche-bag.

Does the singing in the chorus of "This Is Me" remind anybody else of Dave Grohl?

I kinda like this new guy.

The more i listen to him, I think the more I like him. I guess they are gonna delay the album again to re-record all the vocals?

Are they going to name their album Chinese Democracy?

i hate benjamim...rick was great.

with rick stitch they could be a major act, IMO, now with that stupid guy...what a lame voice comparing to old steady ground stuff...so sad.

Their MySpace has changed again. They also have some new (instrumental) demos on again.
http://www.myspace.com/steadyground

And:

Influences: Stone Temple Pilots, AudioSlave, Fugazi, Velvet Revolver, U2, The Cure, Pearl Jam, ColdPlay and yes...The Offspring.
I just thought it was funny they put it like that.

I'm enjoying their demos more each time they update their MySpace. They make pretty dynamic music, compared to the first demos.
At least try 'This is Me'.

they've a cool sound... a little more speed won't harm but i guess that'd change all and it's not their style... let's see if they release an album at last...
