I can't wait.
I can.

Come on, what do I win?

But honestly, the link doesn't work. (not that I really care anyway, since I'm not a fan, but I've started listening to the two RHCP albums I own and they're actually pretty good)

I'm not planning on getting it. Have they ever put out an album that was actually good from beginning to end? Blood Sugar Sex Magick was like 70 minutes long and only had 20-30 minutes of good stuff. What Hits? kind of annoyed me for the most part (though their cover of Higher Ground is pretty cool as is Johnny Kick a Hole in the Sky and whatever the BSSM track on it was. Plus there were a couple other songs that were alright but not particularly memorable). I heard By the Way in my brother's car and that was the most consistent out of everything I'd heard so far. Pretty much everything was at least decent (though my brother skipped 3 tracks saying they were "stupid songs" so I'm willing to believe he was right on that).

The correct answer is, no. Even their greatest hits was boring for over half of it.

Californication was the only one of their albums that I thought was really good from start to finish. All of the singles, Get On Top, Easily, and Savior all rank among my favorite Peppers songs. Every one of their other albums has its isolated great songs, and they're altogether pretty decent, so I'll definitely check out Stadium Arcadium, even if I'm not expecting a masterpiece.

No that's gonna be 25 great tracks and it's gonna be hard for a band like rhcp to put 25 songs in a time-limit of 45 minuts, so I guess it's gonna be like 90 to 100 minuts?

Great :)

Just picked it up. It's alright. Others seem to prefer Jupiter, but I think I like Mars a little better.

Highlights:

Charlie
Especially in Michigan
Wet Sand
Desecration Smile
Tell Me Baby
If
Make You Feel Better
Storm in a Teacup

Mind you, this is based on one single listen through. Those were just the ones that stood out. The rest was mostly meh, with songs occasionally ranging into above-meh or below-meh.

I love the sound of "snow", but the lyrics kill it. also I like Hump de Bump, she's only 18, slow cheetah, torture me, especially in michigan, wet sand. I haven't listened much to mars yet... jupiter is better than by the way, IMO. I loved californication (though it had a couple sub-par songs to me)... and bssm was great. I didn't care much for ohm, and btw was better than ohm but not great. this definitely ranks about ohm and btw, but considerably below bssm and cali. the album has NO FLOW. it just jumps from one song to the next. and then songs that have such a great sound like "snow" are murdered by horrible lyrics... I give this album a 7/10... cali got almost a 9/10, and btw got almost an 8/10.

The whole problem with the cd is that they focused to much on making every song good, but not many of them are memorable. I can only remember a few songs by their name, and the majority of those are right at the beginning of Jupiter.

I just saw them live last Tuesday and gotta say, most boring concert I've ever been to, and thats really weird considering I wreckon they got some of the best music ever made at their disposal (Under the bridge, Scar Tissue, By The Way) to name a few.

They didn't talk to the audience at all which annoyed the crap outta me, Anthony Keidas did not say a single word, other than sing line for line what was on the CD, he walked off stage at the end without even a goodbye or thanks for coming Sydney.

John Frusciante said one line and that was we weren't the most passionate crowd ever, which received the obvious boo's from the crowd, he would have been better off not saying anything. Flea however, being an Australian talked to the crowd a bit and was well received.

They didn't play Under The Bridge, Californication, Around The World, Otherside and heaps of other hits of theirs. Instead sticking mostly to shit songs on Stadium Arcadium. Really the only 2 decent songs off that album that they played were Dani California and Tell me baby.

Finally, they have a habit of playing music unknown to the crowd without any vocals for a ridiculously long period of time, I'm referring mainly to the 15 minute piece they did to finish the show off, it was overly long and most people were anxious for the show to finish on a song they knew.

Anyway I guess when they were playing their old music, it was awesome. They are an extremely talented band, I just thought they didn't come across onstage as if they wanted to be there.

BTW, their support act Har Mar superstar was as bad as music gets. A fat man walking around stage almost naked telling us "Boo me, Ive got a dollar from each of you here tonight". Charming.

Llamas
04-26-2007, 04:01 AM
That's really interesting. Them not talking is weird. I like to have a balance. I don't like it when bands talk TOO much and therefore play a shorter set, but they need to do something to get the crowd going.

It sounds like you're not a huge fan of the band, because you were upset about them playing new and old songs, and not playing all their hits. With most bands, hardcore fans *don't* want to hear all the hits. I know that's how I am, at least. If I went to see RHCP, I'd want to hear more of their less famous songs, because a lot of them are damn good.

And the other thing I assume you're talking about is jamming. I love that kinda stuff, and am pleasantly surprised to hear that RHCP still does that. I enjoy good jams during shows.

You seem to have very weird specifications for a good show. The only legit complaint I think you have is about them not talking.

Jakebert
04-26-2007, 04:45 AM
In yay's defense (I feel dirty saying that), I've talked to die-hard RHCP fans who have told me that they thought they sucked live. They even mentioned the jam sessons, and said that they were boring and repetitive, not the cool kind of jam sessons that most bands do.

Ah, that's a good point. I guess I can't judge without hearing it. That seems like it should be more of a complaint about the band's talent, though, and not about their jam sessions.

Jam sessions are whatever you make them. You don't have to be Steve Vai to make an interesting improvisition or anything. The not talking and bad jam sessions indicates a lack of creativity, which Stadium Arcadium backs up even more.

This is true, which makes me wonder what makes the RHCP ones bad. I guess I'd have to hear them myself. Yay indicated that he doesn't like jam sessions at all, though.

I don't know specificially what the RHCP ones sound like, but I've heard some pretty dull jam sessons where the band basically repeats the same thing over and over again with no variation or even a point to it. Basically, it's a jam session where the band obviously has no improvisational skills so they just play it safe.

The worst jam session, if you could even call it that, that I've ever seen was the Foo Fighters about a year ago. It was basically Dave playing this horrible butt-rock riff over and over again for 5 minutes while the drummer played a really simple boom-chic rhythm.

They didn't talk to the audience at all which annoyed the crap outta me, Anthony Keidas did not say a single word, other than sing line for line what was on the CD, he walked off stage at the end without even a goodbye or thanks for coming Sydney.

That's kinda like when I saw Weezer back in 2002. None of the members, specifically Rivers Cuomo, said a thing the whole show.

Well... I personally wouldn't expect the Foo Fighters to have improv skills, haha. They're a typical rock band. I'd expect a band like RHCP to at least have some creativity. I know you weren't comparing the two, though. I've never seen a bad jam session, but I haven't seen a lot of bands try it.

Well that's to be expected. It's widely known that Rivers (and the rest of Weezer) is really shy. I wouldn't expect him to talk.

I'd assume the Chili's would have decent improv skills, given their musical backrounds, seriously. I always prefer John's guitar playing live, he changes his solos and almost always for the better. And Flea, although over-rated to the point of ridiculousness, is very good.

I haven't heard a jam session from them though.

Flea however, being an Australian talked to the crowd a bit and was well received.

Don't be retarded.

No, seriously: don't be retarded.

Flea is less Australian than AC~DC or the Bee Gees or Russell Crowe, who aren't Australian at all.

I heard that during the Foozer Tour he opened up quite a bit more than usual.

I saw Weezer on both the Foozer tour and Maladroit tour, and they were a lot looser on the Foozer tour. There was a lot more screwing around on stage and everything.

it seems like the red hot chili peppers have been putting out albums that sound the same for years and im very tired of it. nothing groundbreaking in terms of their sound.

The only legit complaint I think you have is about them not talking.I don't think I came across right, because I do like the band, and hearing them play old music whether it be hit music or not would have been better than hearing them play their new dribble. Granted I only own one Chili Peppers album which happens to be Stadium Arcadium, but I have heard a lot of their old music and genuinely like it. A few days after the concert, a pay TV channel was playing the Live At Slane Castle performance, and I thought it was phenomenal. They struck a perfect balance with everything they were doing.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I appreciate music I don't know very well, if its good music, not the Stadium Arcadium stuff they were dishing out, completely ignoring nearly all their previous music, which got them to where they were today. I mean seriously, do you think they would have a fanbase the way they do if they had released Stadium Arcadium type albums instead of By The Way, Californication and Blood, Sugar Sex Magic. Not a chance.
