Limewire all the way. Am on now.

tried to download that, but I think my firewall is kind of kicking it's butt, or something, because for the past two hours LimeWire has been trying to install Java on my computer. eh? I mean, you'd think I already have Java, or whateverthefuck.

computers hate me & can suck my cock.

I have firewall too. Java takes ages to download even if you think you have it. I thought I had it too. Patience?

JoY
03-12-2006, 07:53 AM
does it take over three hours? & does it care if I've tried to stop it a million times? because I basically have even tried to restart my computer during the whole Java installation, but it won't react to anything. it just keeps saying "please wait, installing Java"..

ehh, I'm not too good with patience. *giggle*

I'm not sure, just wait and see.

No fucking Bearshare. It is full of spyware and kills your computer eventually. Been there, ugh.

ooo, Endy! <33 I tried downloading Soulseek before, don't know why I never got it, though.

Endy, got any ideas on what I should do with LimeWire? because it still says it's installing Java, it won't stop under any circumstances & I'm wondering if it's still actually installing at all. :/

Is Soulseek a good program for downloading entire albums? I seem to remember hearing that it was.

Soulseek is the best thing out for actually finding stuff. It can be a bit slower than some of the other programs because unlike Napster and Kazaa where you can download one file from many people at once, you're stuck getting it from one person the whole time. Aside from that it's the best program out there and you'll find just about anything.

I just downloaded Soulseek, and I think it's confusing as hell. I dunno, maybe I'll figure it out eventually.

just ignore most of the stuff. say you wanted to download hybrid theory or whatever linkin park's album is called. first you hit search, type in "linkin park", wait a minute for an assload of results to show up, scroll through for someone that's got the album (check the second column, the path, to see album name usually) at a bit rate you like. right click on one of the files and press 'download containing folder' and wait, it'll download. if you wanna get fancy you can look for people with a short queue or high average transfer rate.

you could search on album name, but i usually can get more results with artist name because of different naming conventions.

Yeah, I figured that much out.

I'm guessing the grayed out names are users that are offline?

nope, users with a non-zero queue. you only see results from users online. if they go offline after you search the line will be red.

I stopped using SoulSeek once I got my iBook. Now I use Xfactor, which works quite well. But SoulSeek was fucking awesome, and I wasn't a huge fan of Limewire on the PC.

Pirate bay == torrent site, I don't like torrents....
Limewire, I hate it because of java.

Soulseek and eMule all the way!!!!

I prefer eMule because there is everything. Albums are packed with rar...not like in Soulseek where you are downloading single mp3's one by one. Although you have to wait longer....

How does it give you a virus? Only when you download the wrong file?

I think he means that Limewire has more viruses than most, but he wasn't smart enough to express it that way.

emule only has semi-popular to popular stuff, soulseek has way more underground/indie stuff. i have no idea why you dislike java or torrents.

and all those who say limewire gives them more viruses than bearshare, or morphious or whatever. guess what, they all use the same gnutella network. if one network has some virus on it, then all the clients will be exposed to it.

Me too, I'm just uncomfortable with limewire. I don't like visual appearance, you have to install java...meh....shitty reasons but whatever.

Torrents - I had shitty internet before, through proxy server. It didn't work well. It was very slow. It should be ok now. I guess I'll give it a second chance.

yep...I love semi-popular! and popular stuff.

uh, it's not for porn-purposes (my boyfriend provides), so less risk of catching a virus?

SoulSeek sounds awesome. LimeWire sounds fine, but yeah, Java has been pinching my ass for three hours, before I finally got to stop the installation. now I just have to erase LimeWire's tracks, so I can have a fresh start with SoulSeek. mmm.

I think this (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25911) is the soulseek client I've used on my mac. Works alright.

Never knew about xfactor, but from the screenshot it looks like it's cloned the itunes interface for it.

Thanks everyone from me as well. I have SoulSeek now, but damn...it wont find anything (three - four minutes now..for the first search still) AND I was completely unable to do anything other than staring at my screen the first two minutes because it made my PC run rreeaaalllyyy slow. Am I doing something wrong?

Search Files --> type in name of the song in little box --> click on "Search".

??

Nina, make sure the connection is working. In the top left corner, there should be an icon with two wires. If they're touching and it's green, you're connected. If they're not touching and it's purple, then you have to try connecting again. Is your internet connection normally a bit slow or no?

Nina
03-13-2006, 08:50 AM
Yeah, my EVERYTHING is normally a bit slow, but this is like, whoa, is a snake working behind the desk?
But yeah, it is working now, just that it took me 5 min to get onto this page again :S
