Never really understood why there is a national Pi Day. Even though pi is 3.14. 3-14. Yeah, but should there be a ''holiday''?

The way you celebrate pi day is by eating round food. This can be cakes, pies, cookies, pancakes, etc.

Three days ago was 311 day...

Our school celebrated this "holiday" by having a "pie baking contest" It was really fun.

who called it a holiday? no government officially recognizes pi day. note: it's also steak and blowjob day *wink*.

Did it involve listening to 311?

The stupid people in Texas didn't go to school today. But yeah, I hate pi. Since me and my teacher argue about how many numbers after the decimal I wanna use. I want to use the pi button which is about 7 digits after the decimal. But he insists, that it's 3.14
It's not a national holiday if you went to school that day.Unlike Christmas or Thanksgiving.

Only pretentious jackasses want to use more than 3.14.*

*Unless you're donig a very specific project in engineering, or are in a high level college class or something to that degree.

But, I like using 3.141592654. It makes me look smart.

I totally remembered the number, with no calculator at all. LOL NERD!

You celebrate national Pi day by eating a pie at 1:59:26 today, PM or AM. Then you sit in quiet contemplation of all things circle. Then, at some point, you wake up and think "What the hell was I doing?" and go get shitfaced, the way any proper holiday is celebrated.

Well, I like to argue because it's way easier to to just type the button that signifies all the number crap than actually pressing "*3.14"

not really... in most high school sciences pi to four or five places is needed to keep accuracy.

and in math classes you leave it as pi, the symbol. not evaluated. most of the time we do the same in physics because knowing that a number is 4*pi carries more information than ~12.566370614359172.

but four or five places, in general.

We listened to a "song" that was the numbers in pie translated to notes.

Pi doesn't end.

Word. Keeping it as a symbol is where the party is.

I believe after 9th grade, it was no longer necessary to change Pi from symbol into number form. It made things much easier. Not to mention much cooler looking.

This reminds me of that movie... "Pi, faith in chaos (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0138704/)". You should really watch it, if you enjoy weird/strange/freak movies.

At our school, we celebrate pi day late. We give the students a week to give money for a charity. The way this works is each math teacher (and this year, the principal!) get put into a drawing. Students pay for tickets for whatever teacher they want to see get a pie in the face. 3 students' names are called from the teacher who won and they get to throw 3 pies. Oh, it's so much fun. This year, I'm trying to get the toughest history teacher in the world. I want to pie her so badly! But the rumor is, she won't let herself be pied - she'll pay so the person who is in second place will win. :(

Things I thought of yesterday:
Einsteins birthday is on Pi-day. Hist birthyear (1879) is found twice in the ten thousand first decimals of pi.
I know first 25 decimals of pi. 3.1415926535897932384626433 (Belive me if you care, I don't care if you do)
355/113 is almost Pi. It's 3.14159292.
My brother claims he knows 100 the first decimals of pi.
Perfect Pi-day would be 3-14-15 (Next prefect March 3rd 2015) (american style)
Almost pi day is 22nd of July. 22/7 = 3.14285714. (european style)

? looks cool indeed - but I don't know if it'll show up in my post :(
Should work like a charm if you type "p" with the font set to symbol, but I don't think you can do that on this bbs. In any case, the moral of the story is Jojan is still a creepy fuck.

We listened to a "song" that was the numbers in pie translated to notes.

Pi doesn't end.

Yes. I know. Thats just the right way to say the first few numbers. Because calculators round it to the nearest tenth.

we don't do anything like pi-day @ our school
this is pi ( first 900+ )

My math teacher has the first 10,000. Its pretty crazy. 9 pages. Hes letting me memorize the first 500 for 30 extra credit points

how worthless.

i love the feynman point (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feynman_point).
as an analog to the above, any finite digit string can be found in pi... this includes any arbitrary length of the number e or of phi (golden ratio) or any other mathematical constant. just think about it... the first ten trillion digits of e are strung somewhere down the line in the digits of pi.
