Did anyone else hear Dexter on the Kevin and Bean Show this morning on KROQ (I got it streaming on the net)? He talked about how he's going to run the LA Marathon and mentioned that the band is currently writing; he hopes to record over the summer and have a CD out before the end of the year, so I think all the reports about a possible November release date are correct. He also mention that he's buying a fighter jet. Nice. :D

Buying a FIGHTER JET?

Wow. Is that even possible? Legal? Woah. Now that, my friends, is some awesome news. :p Did he mention what kind? Model/make?

(The file thing isn't working for me)

Any more details on this jet he's contemplating on buying?

*pictures Dex flying around in an F-15 cranking "Burn It Up" or something as he destroys enemy outposts with Sidewinders or something* :D

My mistake but he din't tell the unit so I thought it was 22 km. To be accurate it's 42.195 km (26.2 miles; 26 miles 385 yards; or 46145 yards).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marathon#Training

Training

For most runners, the marathon is the longest run they have ever attempted. Many coaches believe that the most important element in marathon training is the long run. Usually recreational runners try to reach a maximum of about 30 km - 20 miles at one time and about 60 km - 40 miles a week when training for the marathon. More experienced marathoners may run a longer distance, and more miles or kilometers during the week. Greater weekly training mileages can offer greater results in terms of distance and endurance, but also carries a greater risk of training injury. Some elite marathon runners will have weekly mileages of over 160 km - 100 miles per week. (Daniels, 2005)

Many training programs last a minimum of five or six months, with a gradual increase in the distance run every two weeks. For beginners looking to finish a marathon, rather than compete, a minimum of 4 months, running 4 days a week is recommended (Whitsett, et al 1998) Many trainers including Dr. Daniels recommend a weekly increase in mileage of no more than 10%. It is also often advised to maintain a consistent running program for six months or so before beginning a marathon training program to allow the body to adapt to the new stresses. (Burfoot, 1999)

During marathon training, it is considered important to give your body adequate recovery time. If fatigue or pain is felt, it is recommended to take a break for a couple of days or more to let your body heal. Overtraining is a condition that results from not getting enough rest to allow the body to recover from difficult training. It can actually result in a lower endurance and speed and place a runner at a greater risk for injury. (Daniels 2005)

No shit. Of course a civilian couldn't buy a plane with live USAF missile ammunition.

Still, it's highly questionable whether or not a fighter jet (even if it's been decommissioned due to old age or being obsolete) could be purchased in the first place. Unarmed. Like, fully operational (I know they sell them to collectors and such for museums/displays when they've been retired from use in the force).

It's just coming as a shock to me he'd even be allowed to buy one (usable, engines etc air-worthy). I'm assuming it must be an older model, say Vietnam-era F1 or something, but I could be wrong.

Still, if he was permitted to purchase a live military aircraft any newer than say 40 years old I'd be awfully surprised.

Not that it wouldn't be cool or anything... ;) :D
