I'm absolutely in love with this band. Right now I only have 13 Songs and Steady Diet of Nothing, but I'm getting more as soon as I possibly can.
13 songs is just amazing. Every bit of it. I prefer it over Steady Diet, but there's some songs on there that make it hard to choose sometimes. I find it amazing how Ian Mackaye can go from the legendary Minor Threat, to make another equally incredible band. Both are on my favorites list.

Anyone wanna help me choose my next Fugazi album? Advice and opinions would be most useful.

I have In on the Kill Taker and enjoy it, though it took me a few listens to get into. From what I understand, their last album, the Argument, seems to be generally regarded as their best work with Red Medicine coming in second. I plan on getting at least a couple more of their albums sometime in the future.

<3 The Argument. Red Medicine is pretty damn good too.

I get to see Ian MacKaye with Amy Farina as The Evens on April 7th! Fuck yeah.

Um, hello? Best band EVER, you suckers.

Get End Hits, it's better than lousy sex with a really subpar prostitute.

Repeater + 3 Songs is my favorite by them. I love Fugazi.

Ian MacKaye is the man. Have any of you guys ever heard The Evans?

I have 13 Songs and End Hits. I really like 13 Songs.

End Hits is a grower (well, it was for me), and I normally have to be in the mood to enjoy the songs on it, but it's still a good album. Get that one too.

I'm sure my friend Evan, would enjoy if they were named after him...

Fugazi is quite good. I have In on the Kill Taker, and it has a few very good songs, but a lot are forgetable. I think 13 Songs is better.

Purely out of curiosity, I can't quite comprehend what genre this band is - I know they kinda mix punk and hardcore soul and it shows in the album 13 Songs, yet End Hits is so different and more rocky. Is there a generic name for their genre, or did they actually change their sound in their later albums?

Lars

They progressed over albums.

I suppose you could hole them into the post hardcore genre if you want. Though with the constantly changing definitions of all genres now people might want to argue that.

They are considered emo sometimes. REAL EMO, not pop-rock stuff that people call emo today.

BREAK

Fugazi can be called "emo" only in the same sense that Michael Jackson's early stuff can be called "disco". In other words, they somehow managed to make an entire genre full of worthless tripe sound insanely fresh and exciting.

Genres are gay anyway. They only really fit the "emo-core" tag on their first two albums, before they freaked out and started experimenting.

Kerr

Thanks for that. And yeah, I consider them Post Hardcore too. Though not the genre Emo, because they don't sound very much like it.

I love you. Thank you. Based on those, I'll probably end up getting The Argument next. It's seriously hard to believe that Ian Mackaye went from such a hardcore band like Minor Threat with the way he sings on The Argument. I love it. I swear if I didn't know, I would have never guessed.

Seriously, thanks dude. :D

I'd put them more in the same genre as Sonic Youth, the Pixies, and a lot of the early alternative bands. They don't really sound much like early emo. I mean, they sound nothingl ike Husker Du and Rites of Spring.

BREAK

That's funny, I never thought they sounded very similar to the Pixies or Sonic Youth at all. If anything, they're a lot closer in style to Rites of Spring than they are to any of the 80's American indie bands, with the exceptions of Mission of Burma and the Wipers.

Bottom line: Genres suck, and talking about them is boring.

For the longest time, the only Fugazi song I liked was "Cashout". I'm happy to announce that I'm starting to like some more songs, after a few listens. Mostly "Merchandise".

I finally got around to getting a copy of the Instrument DVD last week. I really wish I'd watched it years ago. Also got around to getting an actual copy of the Furniture EP that day too.

and because I'm nice here's Furniture (http://www.hippieburner.com/fugazi/01%20Furniture.mp3) off that.

i've tried to get into them a bunch of times. they just don't seem to be able to do it for me.

The problem with them is that they're completely humorless and are just not FUN to listen to. Once you get over that fact they're actually quite an interesting band. Just not something I want to listen to over and over again when there's plenty of bands that are both interesting AND fun.

Now I have End Hits (yay Jake), Red Medicine and In on the Kill Taker. I'll still probably end up with more of their albums when I get bored.

You should get their album End Hits. I got into it a lot faster than the other stuff I've heard by them.
