That list is retarded. Deryck Whibley is the singer of Sum 41 and only plays back up guitar to my knowledge.

Plus Mick from Slipknot is about as talented as my ass. I'm fairly sure they just whack their tuning pegs on the wall and say, "Let's see what It sounds like now!"

But that's still pretty good.
I agree with the top 4: Slash, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix.
Those are some of the best guitarists (and a few of my favs).

Honestly, I don't hate them as much as may have came off. I just think it's stupid how everyone thinks they are so talented. In reality... they have a fast drummer, and some interesting lyrics and song styles. Other than that....

You can't make a list of guitarrist's!! Every people think's other guitarrist's are better than other's, and a nother guy thinks way diffirent. So I think you shouldn't be arguing about the list. Just think what you like your self of the list.

Gayman
03-25-2006, 03:49 PM
....and. The are gitarrist's with many many diffirent kinds of styles who play way diffirent kind's of music. So, how can you compare a blues guitarrist to a punk guitarrist, or a jazz player to a rock player. In a talent competition where they play the same things after each other maybe, yeah sure...but not just by what you think of them.

That_Guy91
03-25-2006, 03:50 PM
Gayman has got a point, everyone like a guitarist better than another.
But some guitarists are undeniably more skilled than others, and that's mainly what people are arguing about.

true. But there are alot of them that are not from the same genre. So you really can't list all the guitarist's.

I don't think the genre matters when it comes to comparing skill alone. A jazz players will simply be better than a punk player in terms of skill. There's no argument in that since the winner is pretty obvious. On the other hand, who you think is a better writer/composer, most influential, or who's your favarite guitarists is 100 percent subjective so arguing who's better in that type of thing is impossible. I do think it's possible having a discussion about who's better in terms of skill.

- I honestly think Noodles could even of had potential to make it just a bit farther on the list, but I would be happy if I was only 29 rankings away from Jimi Hendrix.

- Billie Joe seems like like he is placed to high on the list too. Sometimes he doesn't even play guitar, he just runs around with the microphone.

- I'm very happy Zakk Wylde got a great spot on the list.

- I also just realized: I really like Dave Grohl and all, but he is not as good as Kerry King.

- I don't think I saw anyone from A7x on that list. They have great guitarists that could take half these guy's heads off.

I don't think he was disregarding what I said. He means people generally don't listen to that type of music and don't care for it. It's true by the most part.

Exactly, i didn't mean any disrespect.

Ah, but this list is just an opinion. For you see, how in any world can Billy Joel (greenday) be number 48, and Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) be 81?? And also, how can Yngwie Malmstien not be anywhere in the top 10? He's like 38 or something, and thats not cool, because he's a mad good guitarest.

just because of the whole story behind him? because there are much better guitarists out there these days. i know his style was different and AWESOME but i think it's time to let someone else take the #1 spot.

but congrats to the big man on 30~

Noodles is the best guitar player in the world and should be number 1!!!
(for me)

imo I don't care if somebody can play better, I doesn't mean he makes better music.
I like more easy songs then difficult songs. I don't like huge difficult solo's that last 10 min, like metallica or something. I don't say its a bad band or something, just not my taste.

Allo Allo?? Nao viste o Nuno Bettencourt nessa lista??? Esta em 67, nada mau!!

Translation: I was asking her if she noticed that there was a portuguese guitarist on that list.

By the way, Mike Mc Cready deserved much better than the 64th place. He's a way better guitarist than Billie Joe or Noodles, for instance. Have any of you seen him performing "yellow ledbetter" live? Well, he's just plain amazing.

EDIT: What the fuck, Kurt Cobain on 14th place? That's ridiculous. I loved Nirvana, but I reckon their songs are the most basic guitar play I've ever heard. Alright, that list just lost all its credibility for me.

That's amazing. I thought Paco De Lucia, a spanish guitarist, was pratically unknown espcially in the US but he made top 6. Paco definately is one who deserves more recognision for his great work. I do believe that list is based on votes made by anyone who wants to participate so I wouldn't give it much credibility. I wouldn't give a guitar magazine much credibility either but there's nothing I could about that either.

So all in all, I don't see why he shouldn't be on the list.

TheUnholyNightbringer

Because bass is a completely different instrument. It's just as important but the method, the construction, and most importantly what it's used for are completely different. He doesn't deserve to be on the list.

And about Kurt. He was lefthander and it's hard to these kind of people to choose the guitar and even more so to play the guitar. Besides it's not so easy to press two strings at the same time by one ring-finger. Although sometimes in some chords he pressed 3 strings by one ring-finger. Indeed! :o

What the hell are you talking about? The hand you use makes absololutely no difference in difficulty. The only difference is that left handed guitars are slightly rarer.

Actually, the greatest guitarist in the world, Jimi Hendrix was left handed, and I am pretty sure he used a right handed guitar. Which in my opinion makes him an even better guitarist.

He restringed it and played it upside down.

Something more amazing for you here: Herman Li of DragonForce, one of the best shredders out there, is left handed but actually plays right handed! He couldn't find a left handed guitar when he started playing so he actually taught himself to play right handed.

Solo Wars.....that's awesome!!!!!!!!! Sum 41 puts on a great show!

I wonder if the makers of this list review the guitarists on their studio performance, live, or both. I'm guessing it's both studio and live. I think the list is based on talent and how catchy the guitar riffs are: that's why Kurt Cobain is so high. His riffs were really catchy, as along with many others on the list.

If you're talking about the attraction of the context that the guitar is played in - well, lists will change.

And althouhg Tom DeLonge isn't a good guitarist, from what I know, I very much like the songwriting in Blink.

Although complexity isn't an amazing thing in Blink 182, the sense of dynamic that they have is very good.

Hmm, the fact that this list names 'mucky' as the Korn guitarist does it no favours. John Frusciante at 26...is cool, but i dont agree with Kurt Cobain being so high up...influential and inspirational maybe but in the top 15 best guitarists of all time. Pah

Still thats probabily why they do these lists every year...shuffle a few names around and get people to argue about it on 'tinternet forums
