Nirvana of course! I also really like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam is pretty good.

And yes, I know I just named the most commercial bands of the 1st wave of grunge.

Pearl Jam. They're probably the only grunge band, mainstream or indie, to stand the test of time and that is still making great records to this day.

What Jakebert said. Pearl Jam also gets points for being more interesting than the others.

Stone Temple Pilots are my favorite, PJ is good, but Eddie Vedder's (sp?) voice gets on my nerves after a few songs.

How could I forget STP? Core and Purple are classics.

Sponge is pretty good, from the few songs I've heard (props for JN and Dr. Trees), PJ is good, and do Garbage count?

I remember when STP first came out, they were one of the most blatant rip off bands of ALL TIME. Even the usually dumbed down general media picked up on it. I bet Scott Weiland himself musta been like "okay, we're trying a little TOO hard to sound like Pearl Jam now", and they started varying things a bit.

(To thread starter) You picked Nirvana? I'm so suprised!

Anyway, mine is probably Pearl Jam.

Garbage = Not grunge

Garbage = Not grunge

Some self-titled and Version 2.0 was most definitely post-grunge.

Mod Edit: We know what the fuckin' bands look like, dude. Either say something or don't.

I approve. We would have known even if we didn't before because of the first picture.

Correct answer: Green River.

Pearl Jam were never truly a grunge band, and Nirvana have never stirred my soul the way they supposedly did the rest of my generation, and Soundgarden & AIC both can get a little too commercial metal-ish for my tastes.

That's the reason I think Pearl Jam is so great is because they vary their sound away from typical grunge and add a lot of outside influences instead of just straight-forward grunge, and I think it's just a lot more interesting.

But, I agree with the Nirvana thing completely. I just don't get the appeal at all.

I know people don't really like post-grunge, but whatever. My favorite post-grunge bands are LIVE, Bush, and Collective Soul (shut up!). I think the Screaming Trees were decent too.

Before The Foo Fighters started writing shitty radio pop-rock songs, their first album was sort of grunge, if only just on the borderline. The same thing with Silverchair's first album, and neither of those are too bad. Both decent records I reckon.

Ugh Pearl Jam. I think I'll go with Nirvana. Never been a big grunge fan anyway.

Nirvana and AIC are my favourite bands.

Also Skid Row's music drives me into ecstasies. It is the first Kurt Cobain's band. It's some differ from the grunge style but this band had the on of the best music I've ever heard.

Come out and smash'em up!

Alice in chains were good, but nirvana + pearl jam were my favs-how can you not just want to leap up and down to smells like teen spirit,but they are way overplayed by music channels which pisses me off-if kurt did kill himself(i blame courtney love) it would have been cos he thought hed sold out-its a disgrace to his memory.

also Stone Temple Pilots are good-but boring

if kurt did kill himself(i blame courtney love)

Kurt killed himself, end of story.

it would have been cos he thought hed sold out-its a disgrace to his memory.

The song was played JUST as often, if not more, when he was alive.

Holy god, this is one misinformed post.

I only like Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, and Stone Temple Pilots. I also like early Foos (I'll Stick Around kind of stuff). Slave to the System (http://www.myspace.com/slavettsystem) is an incredible band and could be placed in the grunge genre. Coincidence they're from Seattle?
