Ok, it seems that everybody is making reviews so I don’t want to be less :D .
Because Dexter doesn’t write about Lightning Rod (the most voted “Dexter on Song” song) I will do it for him.

I am waiting (Dexter, The Offspring)
On a mountaintop (in the top of success, from previous albums)
For the moment that the sky will strike (the fame and market falling)
My apologies (Splinter, a quite punk album)
Are forever lost
Soon to ashes in a flash of light (you aren’t going to buy the cd)

Miles away from me
Hope is fading soon
Gone forever it‘s a waste of time (we are afraid that we aren't going to be on the top again)
My intentions (realizing a good punk album)
Like a sweeter room
Only bring to me a fading light (our intentions aren’t enough, can’t compensate the failure)

Locked up forever inside (block as a lyric writer)
I look to the stars and ask why
If they could just teach my dark heart to feel (if I could get inspired again)
All I‘ve saved – oh, why? (the good times till Co1)
Is thrown away

I am waning
Like a single bloom
Lost forever in the storm of life (now we are just like any other band)
My intentions
Like a sweeter room
Only bring to me a fading light (the same as before)

Locked up forever inside (said before)
I look to the stars and ask why
If they could just show these wounds how to heal (solve my situation)
Here I am – oh, why?
My last stand – oh, why? (my last try)
And I know For all the rising and falling there‘s nothing to show (the experience tells me that anything could happen with this cd)

Throw me down (don’t buy Splinter)

It‘s been raining (long time has passed)
And now I will pay (nobody remember The Offspring now)
Woe is come to me (isn’t the cd good enough?, Dexter wonders)

I am the lightning rod (me, Dexter, always pay)

Ok, provably the lyrics have nothing to do with what I wrote, but it seemed kinda funny for me.

Edit: I like Splinter and, together with the Noose, I think Lightning Rod is a great song. I don't hate Splinter.

Lightning Rod is about feeling like your the lightning rod for all the worlds troubles, dexter said this in a interview way back in 2002 i have it on my wall, just imagine standing on the top of a mountain and having all the worlds troubles served to you in one strike.

i really love dexters song writing and i think he writes some great stuff but i dont think he put that much thought into the lyrics to lightning rod.....

Yeah but he cant do a song half assed can he, he has got to put meaning and alot of thought into a song so it sounds good, i mean just listen to the energy of the song. If they wern't impressed with the song then why is it on the album, they had several other songs that didnt make it on so it cant be that bad can it.

lightning rod wasn't about what the band has become... can't repeat is the only song he's done about that...
