View Full Version : Writing Text Messages

I write my SMS with fingers from both hands. And I've been asked very often why I do such a "weird" thing, because it is OBVIOUSLY (whatever) more usual to only use one hand.

I do it because it goes faster like that, at least for me. In short: I got used to it.

So now I was wondering: Do you only use one hand? Or both?

I use one but I type really fast.

If I'm walking around usually its with one, but then if I'm sitting around or not doing much, both, but then I also don't send that many.

Always one hand. The ones using both hands and get the phone close to their eyes look so cute.
By the way I hate writing something with numbers, that's why I almost never text. Talking is easier.

Both hands. But I agree with killer_queen. Talking is better, and it ensures that the other person understands what you mean.

I use both thumbs. My left thumb is used for the 1,4,7's and my right thumb controls the 2-9 buttons. I also use the dictionary.

EDIT: Unless i'm sitting down on the bus or whatever. In that case, I just use my right thumb as to not make a spectacle of it.

I never send text messages, and it's only partially because I don't own a cell phone. But if I did, I expect I'd use one hand.

Interesting.

Don't worry...I use two hands.

Unless I'm walking, in which case it'd be one hand.

One hand. I can't say that I type fast, but if I use both hands it will be slower...

Shamefully, I keep reading that as saying something else.

One, usually. I'm mono-thumbous like that.

I almost always used both my thumbs, but on the odd occasion when predictive text is turned off I only use one hand

I use both thumbs.

And while we're at it, predictive texting was invented by Satan.

I rarely text message, but I think I use both.

I only use predictive text for fun. I love typing random letters and watching what words they come up with.

Some people use predictive texting really well. They do a mad combination of letters and a perfect text comes out. Whenever I try, the phone decides to fuck with me.

It takes a bit of getting used to. You need to add a lot of words to the dictionary so your text doesn't come up with too much trash. Nokia phones are great for predictive texting.

The only phone good for predictive texting is one in a bin or the fiery pits of hell.

I love getting messages from people who use it, though. It's almost a game to figure out what they meant to say. Oh, I use one thumb.

I make skilful use of both my thumbs & intuitive spelling, which implies top speed.

Any pianist who uses only one hand sux. It's like they've learnt nothing. You don't do scales with only the forefinger or thumb, you make use of both hands & all fingers; well, the textbox on a cellular is small enough for only two thumbs to be used. & it's the fastest way.

One hand, the thumb. And I have the dictionary thing turned on. I hated it at first, but it's so must faster once you got used to it.

Back when I had a phone, both hands.

Eurgh, predictive texting is a pain in the arse for me - I got rid of it.

I actually normally use one hand but I occasionally use two to speed up the typing of the message, giving that I actually send my texts in almost full words (the odd shorthand, and shorthands only add up to a large amount if i am sending a big text). I don't text when walking, but if standing up at all, I will automatically use one hand.

Very, very rarely do I ever text but I use both hands when I do.

High five! I am also a two-handed maniac. There are some freaks that type without even looking at the buttons.

Right thumb, quite fast. Yet I rarely ever do it. I hate phones. They just serve for practical purposes to me.
