View Full Version : They changed the flavor of Coca-Cola Light again.

Vera

My bottle says "Sugar-free - less than 1 kcal" and under it "New sweetening substance 'sukraloosi'".

Why the fuck do they keep changing the flavor? How can anyone get into this drink if the FLAVOR changes every few years? I mean, what the crap?

Sorry, needed to get that out. I'm bored.

It might be because some of the sweetners aren't as healthy as others, so they might have chosen a different one.

Ooh, is it what's called Coke Zero here in the states? though they still are selling Diet Coke here as well. Coke Zero tastes more like real actual Coke! yay!

Over here diet coke has always been called Coca Cola Light, soooo...I don't know.

I hate Coca-Cola. And I was pretty pissed off when they changed the taste of Fanta Orange. It even tastes shitty with vodka. Fuck sodas.

Wait, Fanta Orange used to taste different? Was it any good?

Little_Miss_1565
04-22-2006, 08:03 AM
Ah! Now i remember that they also started flavoring Diet Coke with sucralose (brand name Splenda), though there were only some bottles of it with the sucralose, and I don't remember seeing those in awhile now. Hm. Maybe they all went to Finland!

YES! Now since a year or two years ago it tastes like absolute SHIT and is too sweet. Ew, icky, eurgh.

I think Coca Cola Light just tastes better. Especially with the lime or lemon tastes.

Sim - I know, that sucks. Fanta sucks but luckily in Finland we've always had an alternative orange soda called Jaffa, which has ALWAYS tasted the damn same. It's fizzier and not as sweet as Fanta, so many many many prefer it to Fanta.

1565 - Aha, yeah, sucralose.

It doesn't actually taste all that bad but I was a fan of the taste before this one.

I think the 'z' brand coca cola stuff here is supposed to be sugar free, it used to be called something else a little while ago, no idea about the taste though. Whatever shit they put in those drinks it gives me a headache every time.

Generally, if a soda has more than one "mod" to it, I don't drink it. For example, if I ever see a "Diet Cherry Vanilla Coke with Lime", I'm running the fuck away.

I hate coca-cola too. I prefer juice. It has less kcals and tastes more better. And it's natural.

If I may correct your English the tiniest - it's "better", no need for the "more". Nina was right about your English, though, it gets better with every post. I know forum-surfing and posting helped my English, too, so yeah, keep up the good work. :)

I like juice, especially juice with multiple fruit but I don't have a juicer so buying any of the juice I want is quite expensive.

Coca Cola is okay in my opinion but I agree, light sucks. It has always sucked. Anything with less calorie tastes bad.
I don't think Fanta is that bad. Never had a problem with it. Maybe I'm just not drinking those kind of thing like Tanya. Juice is sooo much better.

I used to hate the light/diet coke, but the added splenda/sweetener made it tolerable. Gnerally speaking I hate the sweetener too; this is the only time it's done something right. Either way, I prefer regular (or vanilla which they don't sell anymore :()

dude, gross. i hate diet sodas, they're pointless and taste like ass. well, i guess it makes sense for diabetic people. =/ but otherwise, ew.
if you wanna be healthy, have green tea or juice or whatever. not diet coke. =/

i'm in the process of giving up soda entirely. woot woot. ;x

Vera
04-22-2006, 09:20 AM
I only have it because mum bought it. I don't want to waste good cola and no one else would drink it. :/

I think my favourite drink overall is Indian tea (chai). Yummy stuff.

Sunny
04-22-2006, 09:23 AM
yah, i feel your pain. i got a whole fucking case of Fruit2O (fruit flavored water) and it's sweetened with splenda i think.. and it tastes like ass/makes my mouth feel funny (all sweeteners do). but i'm drinking it cause i don't wanna waste it. lol.

you know what's really awful? sugar/fat free ice cream. =(

Hahaha, I remember when I IMed Sarah with that question and thought it meant "Fuck The What", as in WTF backwards.

I want to start using it in that meaning.

Anyway, sorbet is good, but I thought Sunny meant regular ice-cream with no fat or sugar. And that? Is crap.

Artificial sweeteners annoy the hell out of me. Aspartane leaves the aftertaste of really, really bad peaches in my mouth, and I can't drink most of the soda diet drinks here because they've got that in it.

Pretty much anything except sugar in liquids annoys me - not counting the flavors themselves.

And question - how many stripped versions of Coke have there been? I can think of Diet Coke (Coca-Cola Light), Coke Zero, C2, Decaffeinated Coke, and decaffeinated Diet Coke. Are there more?

Little_Miss_1565
04-22-2006, 09:36 AM

I'd never even heard of that - but I just meant the ones that were reduced. Because they also had Cherry Coke, Vanilla Coke, Lime Coke, and so on.

Although I really had never heard of yours. Who comes up with these?

I'll invent the new one right now:

"Introducing: Coke Coke! That's right, we've taken the current formula and added more of that classic Coke flavoring to it! Same great look, same great taste! Get them while they're still new!"

this is a discussion for Mr. Mike
has he been online?

I've tried Coca-Cola light here in Mexico, and in the US. It tastes different. Personally, I prefer the one in here, it's less sweet.

I really didn't like much Coca-Cola with lime flavor.

haven't tried Coke Zero yet

It's Marketing 101. Coca Cola tastes differently all over the world, depending on what would sell best to the people of that area. It's not a complete difference, just small changes.

I hear that the Coke in the US is really sweet compared to the rest of the world, but the Australian Coke is the sweetest of all.

T-6005
04-22-2006, 10:32 AM
I thought that was because Coke in the US is made with corn syrup, whereas in most places it's sugar. I'm not sure about that, though - I've never had American Coke.

I never understood the following concept: Take an american brand with an american name and change the name to another name which involves the english language.

1) In German, cell phones are called "handys".
2) Coca Cola Light -> Coke Diet.
3) etc.
I dont get it.

wheelchairman
04-22-2006, 03:27 PM
I like how example number 3 is "etc." :p

And Handy's? Wow, that sounds gay. Ever heard of Mr. Hands? www.mrhands.ytmnd.com

Nina

And...god...there are so many examples for that. Especially in the German language and market, it seems.

Yeah I believe the famous example is Killer Hands :p

Does Germany just have an obsession with hands?

Pepsi Max is a favourite of many of my friends. So no, not so much a failure. "Maximum taste, minimum sugar!" Lolz.

We had blue and green Sprite over one summer.

Vera
04-22-2006, 10:28 PM
Oh, and Nina - the "Handy" word sure sounds English but German has the word "Hand" as well, no?

I start working at an amusement park next week - it's funny, when I last went there as a kid, everything was in English, all the machines and stuff, Space Shot and Top Spin and Break Dance and Octopussy.. Now they're all in Finnish. It's so odd, they've done a major Finnishization to the whole place - then again, I suppose it's good that someone is doing that. No corruption to the ze Finnish tongue.

Blue and green Sprite! The US Sprite has always been clear! Is it one of those things they test on Europe, or just Finland? ;)

According to Wikipedia, Pepsi Max started out only being available outside the US because the sweetener hadn't been approved by the US government. lolz.

Per, stop the Mr. Hands obsession!

I like Diet Coke better than normal, I don't like it when it's too sweet. I love Pepsi Max, but hate Pepsi Light (too sweet & tastes flat and disgusting).

Vanilla Coke is the best.

I like Pepsi Max Twist but not Diet Coke Lemon, because the coke one is too lemon-y.

I guess these were my coke opinions.

Thats true, but the thing is...you pronounce it the English way. Plus, it just...ISNT a German word, you know? I have no idea how to explain it. Such words with "y" at the end dont really exist, and if they do I can either not think of it now and/or they are quite rare.

Tizzalicious
04-23-2006, 02:11 AM
We have some words like that too, they sound English, you'd think they are the English words for something and we just stole them, but in reality, we just made them up.

Too bad I can't think of an example right now because I'm an idiot.

Blue and green Sprite! The US Sprite has always been clear! Is it one of those things they test on Europe, or just Finland? ;)
It was probably contaminated water, the soda was coming out out blue and green so they decided to slap on some new labels, "Now in Green for a limited period of time!" and sell it off.

It didn't taste any different.

T - I'm kidding, love.

In a blind taste test, half my class thought River Cola was the best. So it really isn't as bad as one would think. It's just the fact that it comes from Aldi that makes it taste bad.

I personally like it and I am extremely defensive about this. :(

Vera
04-23-2006, 09:31 AM
Blind tests rule. I want to make one with Coke, Pepsi etc and see if I get them correct. Of couse, would have to also have some friends to also guess the drinks with me.

They did a blind test with bottled waters in a Finnish magazine once, and added some tab water from Helsinki as one contestant. It got the best score. :)

Some products are astonishingly similar. I buy some unimportant TESCO thingies or cleaning products or whatever and they're almost the same as some expensive brands.
