View Full Version : The Story of the American Bug

In the year of God 1950, the Peasant was peacefully ploughing his potato field. The Solanum tuberosum was already in blossom, reaching out to the sun, as if it knew it had to be big and strong for the plate of mashed potato and feed all the poor.

Just as the Peasant leaned down over the little hill of soil, on which his life-giving plant was growing, to pick up the pitchfork he spotted something unusual. There it was, a Leptinotarsa decemlineata. This little wonder, 8mm big with yellow and brown stripes, was sunbathing right on the leaves of his potato plant! And the Peasant wondered. For he had never seen such a thing before, when the Russian *Brat came onto him and spake:

“Tovarish, you shall despise the American man for he had sent you this plague and dropped it right from the sky to harm your harvest and to harm the socialist homelands.”

And it became Truth.

And the Peasant nodded and hated the West.

Anti-American propaganda in the socialist Czechoslovakia
“Protect the potato harvest from the AMERICAN BUG! Immediately report findings at Local National Committee.”
