So for the last 6 months I've been doing this new thing. Each month, I've made a new playlist and CD based on the stuff I've been into around that time. I thought it might be fun to see how long I keep up with this and to look back on all my past playlists. Other people should feel free to copy my idea, because it's a lot of fun. If you want to start up making monthly playlists, post them in this thread, bitch. I'm going to share all of mine up til now. w00t.

'Azzit. Some are longer than others cuz I just had to fit as much as I could on CDs, which I've made out of each playlist. Discuss/make your own/let this thread die and get bumped in a year by some 'tard.

That's a neat system. I don't think I'd be able to keep up with it that well though.

And your lists seem a bit... fabricated... in that different songs by the same artists appear from month to month. Like, if I were to do it, I would include songs I had been introduced to recently and loved, songs from new CDs I had heard, or old songs I had "rediscovered." But I would probably not so much include a song that I've known and loved for years. If that makes sense.

I do end up making mixed CDs sometimes based on stuff I was into at the time. Usually I try and categorize songs (indie, new rock, old rock, mellow, etc.) and then once I accumulate enough songs I want to put on a mix, I'll finally make a CD. I've got a bunch in the works right now that I should probably finalize. One I made a couple of years ago for myself that was definitely pretty random. In fact, this was the second in my "Random Mix" series, aptly entitled "More Random Mix."

1. Big Star - September Gurls
2. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Bring It On
3. The Von Bondies - Going Down
4. Radio Birdman - Thrill of It All
5. Read Yellow - Fashion Fatale
6. Adam and the Ants - Beat My Guest
7. The New Pornographers - Mass Romantic
8. New Model Army - Bittersweet
9. The Diodes - Tired of Waking up Tired
10. 999 - Emergency
11. Squeeze - Another Nail in My Heart
12. Idlewild - You Held the World in Your Arms
13. Big Star - Thirteen
14. Dinosaur Jr. - Freak Scene
15. Television - Glory
16. The Von Bondies - Lack of Communication
17. Radio Birdman - New Race
18. The Libertines - Boys in the Band
19. Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros - Road to Rock 'n' Roll

Oh, and as a total side note, I've been listening to Yo La Tengo stuff and really like it.

I don't think I discover enough new music per month that I really enjoy to really put on the same playlist, so yeah, I recycle things that I happen to have been listening to a lot at the time. There will always be some new ones, but I'll throw in some that I know I'll always enjoy to fill 'em up. Already some of these mixes I'd have trouble listening to start to finish because of all the songs I found on a whim with no repeat listenability.

Right now, I'd say my favorite one that I've made so far is either February or April. Since April hasn't had enough time to wear off so far, I'll probably end up going with February.

Some of Yo La Tengo's stuff sounds really good, but I just can't get into most of it. Plus, they just have so much music out that I wouldn't know where to start, like if I wanted to buy an album.

Mne are usually a lot longer...I get bored of them otherwise. And like Michelle, they usually have new music I got introduced to. Or what usually happens, I listen to just the new music for a while, and then I add it to an existing list with my favourites.

Yeah, exactly, that's why I couldn't keep up the monthly thing. I would probably only be able to make a really good mix every few months or so. It depends though, sometimes I discover more music than at other times.

I randomly downloaded... umm... "Prisoners of Love" by the band, I guess it's 3 CDs, and I've been listening to 'em and pretty much enjoying everything. I've downloaded tons of albums recently and they particularly stand out for whatever reason.
