Nope. I can't speak French, and I'll never be able to learn. From what I hear it's impossible to get a job if you can't. Toronto's the most likely at the moment.

Everyone moves to Canada. When are you planning on this move? I should be in Toronto for the next.... oh, 3 years to the rest of my life, the latter being the worst-case scenario.

Hey that's where all the oppertunities are.

We have acres of untapped minerals and ressources, including the much sought-after energy. There's immense potential for exploitation. All it takes is smart men to put it on the market.

I'm not saying the rest have it bad, but there's here so much more wealth to go between the thirty million inhabitants than anywhere else in the world.

TheUnholyNightbringer
05-25-2006, 08:34 AM
Two reasons. One was what HP said - all the opportunities are there. My second choice was San Fransisco, but there's a lot of things about living in America that I'm really not sure about. The other reason is that I've always wanted to live somewhere else and Canada was always foremost in my mind. I have an old friend who lives in Montreal, but wants to move to Toronto. Ergo, I'd have a place to stay while I find my feet.

Ontario is pussified like that. Your legislature is a result of pussies sitting in parliament for a few decades and actually, genuinly--imagine that--trying to run a responsible Government... well, until the recent colapses.

Quebec has it much more bohemian. Although we also recently pushed in through a law to ban smoking from bars. Who the fuck in Quebec voted for that crap?

See, both provinces are very progressive. Difference is, Ontario would for example, on the matter of gay marriage, vote in favour because they have rights, because it complies with the Canadian charter of freedom, because gays are a large demographic, and for all the right, responsible, mature reason.

Quebec votes in favour because hey we smoked a joint with a fag once and he turned out a pretty cool guy.

T-6005
05-27-2006, 11:37 PM
It's hardly my legislature. I'm appalled at how uptight the alcohol laws are in Ontario. It's a pain in the ass, and I've never been anywhere else near as bad.

Canada has trees, open spaces, nature, large forests, large houses, racoons, Poison Ivy, more churches than supermarkets, large lakes, beautiful weather, but also a shitload of rain, extremely religious people that pray for your braindead grandfather to wake up from his coma, a lot of Dutch (speaking) people (I had to adjust my entire vocabulary for cursing), maple syrup (oh my,<333), host families that make you chocolate pie for lunch, maple leaf, red & white..

oh, & did I mention it sometimes was a tiny bit boring out there? not in Toronto, though. there I laid on the glass floor of the CN Tower & walked in the music garden, dedicated to Bach's first suite for unaccompanied cello, built next to a high way.
http://www.harbourfrontcentre.com/noflash/images/programs/visarts/musicgarden.jpg

I remember a friend of mine turned 21 that summer in Canada. from her host family she got whiskey, rhum & every other stronger alcohol you can imagine. for breakfast. not kidding.

has any of the people, wanting to move there, actually been there?
Iz is going to Canada too. Iz is awesome & would immediately improve the entire country while brightening it up.

It's actually pretty nice, especially where Lake Ontario is. It's barely boring and there's usally something to do. It's also very multicultural, which makes even more instresting. It also beats the shit out of Arizona, but then again, almost everything is more interesting than Arizona.

I love it here in Ontario. I live in Niagara Falls (the city), its a pretty cool city. The Niagara Region in general is a pretty cool place to live, about 350,000 ppl in total, its nice. The Niagara Falls (the water) is cool and all the stuff around here, the wineries and the tourism is great. 1 hr from Toronto aswell. Beaches, camping

Not that it matters to everyone but there is a fairly large italian community here aswell, and thats what I like most. Also, french and serbian. Niagara on-the-lake (a little town) pretty much looks exactly like Britain. There are british forts from the 1800's, the houses look british, its a british theme. Its cool.

Anywho...yeah...just thought I'd add...Toronto is a great place.

North America will always be more multi-cultural than a European one. Holland might have a lot of immigrants. There is a significant Dutch majority. There is no cultural majority in Canada. Everyone is the children of immigrants.

Italia311
05-30-2006, 12:23 PM
That is true, everyone is children of immigrants. Unless you are native. I took a Canadian Studies class in university last year, and there is this school in Toronto where there are over 100 different languages spoken. Seems like alot, I am just quoting a the prof. Toronto alone is pretty multi-cultural, perhaps one of the most multi-cultural cities in the world.

JoY
05-31-2006, 04:45 AM
true. there even are a LOT of Dutch people in Canada. that just emphasises it being multi-cultural, because Dutch isn't exactly a common spoken language & you don't really come across much/many Dutch on a world-wide scale.

Apparently though, you can't simply claim you're Canadian. How come people are allowed to be Italian/French/German/Chinese/etc, but not Canadian? Not fair. My family dates back way too far, I have no clue what I am, besides 1/16th Indian.

In BC they ask for two pieces of ID to buy alcohol (!!!), but marijuana abounds. Hmmm...

Sin Studly
05-31-2006, 06:44 PM
I'd say Australia is more noticably multicultural because we only started letting mudskins in in the 50's, so everyones still all racially hatin' on each other, and keeping their own traditions, except for the Germans and Irish, who got integrated a long time ago.

You two girls have a French background. Your families arrived in Canada much earlier. The British (Royalists) came after 1779 (in actual numbers), and the Irish and Asians in 19th century. And then came everyone else.

Per - yes; fat, obnoxious, pale Dutch people on airbeds on holiday. not the kind to stick around. when we move out, we mostly move to France. no matter how 'progressive', we don't like change too much.
