What does everyone have to say about the best band in the world

some really nice tunes, and the original german they were recorded in is so much cooler... I really wish I could get my hands on some of the albums recorded in german, because I think it's really cool :p otherwise, I do think they are overrated. This is my opinion, so no need to flame me, but they weren't that talented. None of them were very good at their instruments, and none of their music was exactly anything amazing. I do enjoy listening to them, but I also think they are overrated. Sure, they were the first "band" as we know it, but if they hadn't done it, someone else would've.

oh, haha, no actually the beatles started out in Hamburg, and recorded a lot in german. It exploded so quickly in Hamburg and in Europe that they quickly went to the UK and rerecorded everything in english. My professor played atleast 4 songs for us... I wish I remembered which ones...
edit: only two of the songs were hits. that's why you've only heard two :)
edit 2: here's a list of songs they recorded in german (atleast the ones I found... there are possibly more)

Please Please Me/Love Me Do
From Me to You/Thank You Girl
She Loves You/I'll Get You
Twist and Shout/Boys
I Want to Hold Your Hand/This Boy
It Won't Be Long/Money
Misery/Ask Me Why
All My Loving/I Wanna Be Your Man
Can't Buy Me Love/You Can't Do That
Do You Want to Know a Secret?/Little Child
Please Mr. Postman/Hold Me Tight
I Call Your Name/Long Tall Sally
Hard Day's Night/Things We Said Today
I'll Cry Instead/A Taste of Honey
And I Love Her/I Should Have Known Better
Tell Me Why/If I Fell
Matchbox/I Saw Her Standing There
Slow Down/I'm Happy Just to Dance With You
I Feel Fine/She's a Woman
No Reply/Eight Days a Week
Rock and Roll Music/I'm a Loser
Ticket to Ride/Yes It Is
Kansas City/I Don't Want to Spoil the Party
Help!/I'm Down

ilovellamas, you have no idea what you're talking about. The Beatles got started in Liverpool, which I thought was like common knowledge among anyone that likes them. Yes, they did play in Hamburg for a year or so, but it was a while after they had formed, and they only recorded one thing in Germany, and it was just as a backing band for another singer, whom I can't remember his name as of right now.

And they never recorded a whole album in German. Everything that they recorded, except for Let It Be, was recorded at Abbey Road in english. Again, I thought that was common knowledge for anyone who likes the Beatles.

I've listened to almost all of their songs, and they're far from being the best band in the world.

Yes, the Beatles were overrated, but they do deserve a lot of the credit that they get because they actually did do a lot of innovating when it comes to how pop music is written and recorded. Very few bands from that era were as inventive as they were, and most of them only got that inventive after hearing the Beatles and being inspired.

You're right in that, they made a huge change in music world, and opened a breach in youthhood and adulthood and in pop music. But they are also overrated.

Yes, I know. I even said that they're fairly overrated. Especially the early "Please Please Me" era stuff, which I really don't like. In fact, I dislike most of their career up until "Revolver" when they started experimenting in the studio.

I hate to double post, but what the fuck? The Beatles weren't the first rock 'n roll band, and that's not why people respect them as much as they do. People respect them because they were the first band to make rock 'n roll and pop music sophisticated. Jesus, do you even read what you post?

that's what I meant by band as we know it. sure, there were bands before them... they kind of reinvented certain things about it. sorry I was unclear.

as far as the recording in german... I am aware they aren't from germany. they first tried to break through in Hamburg, though. I don't know for sure that there were albums released, so I didn't say albums. However, I personally have heard several of their songs in the original german. I've also learned about them in a couple of my german classes. That's where I'm getting my information from. If it's faulty, I apologize on my professors' behalves. I have heard atleast 4 of their songs in german, though.

No, they first tried to break through in England, but it wasn't going well, so they took a gig in Germany to refine their act. They knew they weren't going to break through in Germany.

"The original German"? None of their songs were recorded in German first. Why do you think they sparked the British invasion? They were english, not German. The few that were re-done in German were recorded long after the original songs were recorded. They recorded nothing in Germany aside from acting as a back up band for another singer. And when they played in Germany, they didn't sing in German. They sang in English. They didn't speak German. Plus, most of the songs they played while in Germany were cover songs and they really didn't start writing original songs until after they returned from Hamburg. So yeah, your professor is wrong. I just finished reading an 854 page biography of the band about 3 weeks ago, and I have a feeling a book like that is more likely to be correct than a professor.

I already apologized that my information was incorrect... I was told from more than one professor (two from the US, one from germany) that they recorded in german first. I never claimed to be a huge fan of the beatles, and my information was wrong. I'll restate what I said at first then. I'd like to get the stuff they recorded in german, because the 4 songs that I've heard that they did in german sounded really cool.
