View Full Version : French Oral Exam tomorrow, bets?

So tomorrow is my first oral exam. I thought in a purely narcissistic way, that everyone would enjoy betting on my performance. Let me tell you the variables.

The situation: I will need to do a presentation of a topic I prepared myself. I have chosen Les Beurs. The powerpoint is copy/pasted text from the wikipedia.fr entry on Les Beurs. (Les Beurs are the second generation immigrant youth of France. The ones who are all pissed off at the moment, or well, have been for years. Another part of the exam will be that I will need to answer a question based on the cirriculum. I've only have paid attention in class. And I didn't read any of the literature assigned. So here's hoping...

The teacher is new. The old one went to Colombia to adopt a child or something. So this is a good possibility. She doesn't know I'm a slacker with no motivation to do anything.

My french was alright a year ago. I really stopped caring, or thinking about French by any means, this past year. So it's anybody's guess how well I'll do.

So, anyone who gets closest to the actual result, gets an exclamation mark in their general direction.

So the results with the possibility I might get them, I'll divide them into 3 groups.

Failed (00-5) Very small chance I will get this. If you are right you get a lot of exclamation marks for guessing this one!

Alright (6-9) Highest possibility I will fall into this category.

Excellent (10-13) A rather small chance I will fall into this one.

I'm gonna jump in, mark me down for a 4.

I've read somewhere that Beur = french slang for Arabic ((especially?) people).

Anyway, I bet on Six.

Alright Dave's taken the riskiest choice! Although Dave, the number 4 is not in the Danish grading system (don't ask me why, I have no idea.) The failing grades are 00, 03, and 5.

And yeah Beur is slang for Arab. Apparently it's what you get when you say arabe backwards, beur-a. And they just cut off the last syllable. It's more slang for the Maghrebins. North Africans.

A 7 is my guess.

06-01-2006, 05:06 PM
Alright, put me down for 5 then.

06-01-2006, 05:15 PM
Alright, put me down for 5 then.
Don't worry about it, all the failing grades got the same chance (although in reality my actually being there rules out 00.)

I get a million points if the teacher holds up a piece of paper with "PHAIL!" written on it.

06-01-2006, 05:18 PM
This is true. I'll also give you a bonus if she writes Lollercaust!

06-01-2006, 05:19 PM
I'm really hoping your teacher's totally 1337.

06-01-2006, 05:20 PM
I'm willing to bet you get about a 9, maybe a 10. I have faith in your BS skills.

06-01-2006, 06:41 PM
I think you'll get seven. How would that be in %?

...or 8. Yes, 8. It'd help if I was familiar with these numbers.

06-01-2006, 06:59 PM
I think you'll do Alright because you paid attention to class: 9

06-01-2006, 09:01 PM
I'm willing to bet Excellent. 10 or maybe 11. After all, you're the God of Bullshit. There's a chance you will sweep them off their feet with something. Good luck.

All About Eve

I'm going to say 7.

06-01-2006, 09:59 PM
Im going with a 10.

06-01-2006, 10:12 PM
My guess is a nine.

06-01-2006, 10:16 PM
I thought you were gonna get like a 10, but with this additional info, I'm gonna bet on an 8.

Plus you had the disadvantage of not having me there with Amélie to prepare you. (Does this mean we won't watch it now, btw? This makes me sad. If that's the case, I'll do whatever it takes to find a copy with English subtitles.)

06-01-2006, 11:50 PM
Yah, it's an 8 bet from me. But it's totally gonna depend on the teacher...eh.

06-02-2006, 01:01 PM
So I got an 8. That means the people who got the ball park right were:

Sinister, Coke_a_holic, Nieh, Preoccupado, All About Eve, and T-6005. You all get one exclamation mark: !

For the people who get it on the mark:
Iz, Tizz, Tired_of_you, you get two exclamation marks: !!

Why so little? Because this was almost a certain grade.

Slight error there, but very understandable. You two = smart couple.
