Oh really? I didn't know that. That's about when I started getting into the Ramones. The story that came with their greatest hits album said that Joey and Dee Dee were dead, but not Johnny.

Yep, he died of prostate cancer.

joey died of cancer. dee dee died of a drug overdose. you sure johnny died of cancer? I thought he died of drugs, too.

and kurt cobain? talent? he played shitty power chords like any punk band, only a lot slower... and couldn't sing. Also half his "lyrics" were just him mumbling. He didn't come up with lyrics for a lot of his songs.

Actually, there were lyrics, you just can't understand them. Well, I can understand most of them. I honestly don't get how anyone can NOT understand every single word in Smells Like Teen Spirit. (Even though those lyrics suck) Still, Kurt wrote some great lyrics.

A lot of the lyrics were either made up after the song had been performed (and fans made up the lyrics), or made up by fans. And I bet you couldn't understand them just by listening and you've had to look them up. And he didn't write great lyrics...

True. Although he didn't write great lyrics, some of his lyrics really do stick with me. Some from Lithium for example.

hey, I'm certainly not saying people shouldn't like nirvana. I can easily admit that there are bands I like that aren't talented. I just get annoyed when people talk about how talented someone is just cause they like them. I respect your opinion because you admit kurt wasn't a musical genius, but you can still admit you like them.

Yeah. There are very, very few people I would call a musical genius. Jimi Hendrix I would consider to be one. Paul McCartney. Among others.

Kurt Cobain is awesome. He may not be a musical genius like Jimi Hendrix, but it's pretty damn difficult to not like him.

Lol. I think of simple stuff like that about bands new today. They say, 'How can you not like [band name]'. I simply say, 'Because I don't.' However, if it's about Fall Out Boy, I will say 'I hate emo music'.

I second I love llamas, In fact, I think that if Cobain haven't get his head off, maybe the world will see how crappy he was

Out of all three dead Ramones, Dee Dee remains to be my favorite. I have most of his solo covers and I got to touch his bass.

I wonder why so many rock stars go to drugs. I want one of the Offspring members to come on here and tell us why they do or don't do drugs, or how they plan on dying.

Which Ramone is still alive? The one that keeps selling out there songs to all of those commercials?

Nineteen Seventy Nine

The drummer, Tommy. He was part of the founding four, but quit the band at one point. That makes me sad how he still gets to be on all of the shirts even though he was only there for the first several albums.

No, his lyrics sucked. The fact that "Rape Me" is considered by Nirvana fans to have amazing lyrics will confuse me until the day I die.

Drugs started out as a purely counter-culture thing, and rock music was a huge part of that. Now it's just a part of it because of the easy access to drugs that they have. The kinds of drugs musicians do are incredibly expensive, and they have the money to pay for it.

That bit is important. They do drugs basically because they can.

Musicians have probably been doing drugs ever since they began being used for recreational use. I saw the Drug Years a couple weeks ago that talked about how a lot of jazz musicians in the 50s and 60s did drugs. I'm pretty sure that they didn't do it to be counter-culture and I'm positive that they didn't do it just because they could. I think that they just wanted to get high and the stuff wasn't hard to get.

actually, a big thing is that a lot of people who do drugs heavily tend to spend a LOT more time playing instruments cause they spend a lot of time at home, so they get a lot better. most famous jazz musicians- some of the best musicians of all time- died of drug overdoses. I know charlie parker got into drugs very young because his homelife was so awful, and when he was on drugs, he'd play his sax all the time. And that's how he became so great.
