View Full Version : Why does the search option exclude all 3-letter words?

Even if it's part of a phrase and I run the search with quotes around it, it will remove the 3 letter words from the phrase. That doesn't make sense to me.

Pfft, this topic has been done before! Use the search button!

This has been done before? Is that historical data? That won't be necessary.

Anyway, I know what you mean. I was in the Other Bands forum, searching for a thread where you "invent" bands using different members, like a supergroup. I searched "your own band". They excluded "your" and "own". Basically, it came up with every thread in the Other Bands section with the word "band".

Shake your fist at it, Josh! Maybe it'll let you search for shorter words!

Parts of searching can slow down a server enormously. I think the short words are excluded to try and curtail that.

The search button is a smelly piece of shit.

I understand that plus the fact that nearly every post has words like "the" in them, but when you're looking for a phrase and you type it in quotes, you're looking for a post with that exact phrasing, not a post with any of those individual words in them. Google also leaves out words like "this" and "the" from regular searches but it still includes them when you're looking for an exact phrase.

Yeah, well that's Google, and--

Wait a second. Google's a search engine, too?!

I must find out more about this!

If it's a serious problem and a very specific phrase you can Google it. Just type in "Offspring Forums" and then whatever you're looking for.

Good point. Also, Google can occasionally throw a "the" in there because they have more bandwidth than god. Private servers for band websites tend to have less.

Did you ever find one? Because I know there is one somewhere...

No, I gave up after I realized what the search actually did.

Hm... Ok. Well, I can't help you then. You could always start a new one though.
