Can anyone explain to me the Preved jokes? And what's it mean?

PREVED is only a word which says MEDVED.
Here so:

SOTONA

And MEDVED appears everywhere. For example it can be met in computer games:

I do but I don't like it. I try to not using this. I want to speak without this ALLWAYS...but I do it seldom (when I'm very angry and don't think). I think it can't be wonderfull, only if you 10 years old.

i want to learn russian. but i see it's very difficult. you have another alphabet.

Rocky-girl
09-23-2006, 12:55 PM
yes. it's Cyrillic alphabet. DO you want to study Russian only because of our alphabet? Ukrains and Belorussians have Cyrillic alphabet too.

the_GoDdEsS
09-23-2006, 01:09 PM
I learnt the alphabet long ago and I did not think it was hard. But I am still slow when I am reading Russian because I don't practise often enough.

Rocky-girl
09-23-2006, 01:49 PM
I don't know. I think that Russian is hard because of different endings in the words and something like that, idioms, stress. But for Slavic person I think it's not hard to learn it. It's like for Russian person learn slavic language, like Slovac. And our language is milder then languages like English, German, French, it's hard to pronounse mild letters (like 'yu','ya','yo','sche').
Simonka, have I understood correctly that in word l'ubim you say 'u' like 'yu'?

the_GoDdEsS
09-23-2006, 01:53 PM
I remember when I was about 8 years old my Mum had a large poster with pictures for children and cyrillic next to each of them. So I put it onto the floor and learnt to write my name in cyrillic. It was fascinating to use a different alphabet.

Yes, Tanichka. That's perfectly correct. "ľu" is pronounced as "lyu".

Rocky-girl
09-23-2006, 02:00 PM
Have you written your name like this: Симона? When I started to learn English I wanted to translate my name and I was very sad because I couldn't, but everybody around could (Katya-Kate, Anya-Ann, Masha-Mary). I was so sad. And till now I have some problems with writing my name in English(I have there a letter that can't be written and pronounsed in English).

the_GoDdEsS
09-23-2006, 02:03 PM
Yes, I did it just like that. Except it was the written form. I liked the way it looked. How old were you when you started learning English? And can you write your name in cyrillic for me?

Rocky-girl
09-23-2006, 02:14 PM
Officially I started leaning English when I was 6 years old. There we learnt how the animals are named, colours, numbers, members of the family, all this stuff was till 10(!) years! But than when I was 11 years old a new teacher came. She was shocked - we didn't knew alphabet! At first is was VERY hard. She gave us homework even on holidays! But she always told us "I'm a person who gives you a spade! And you must dig(=undestand) the language by yourself! If you'll I'm a good teacher." ANd now I understand, she gave me a spade, because now I'm sitting here and talk to foreigh persons.

Shurely, I can, here it is Таня- it's little, Татьяна - full, you call me Таничка, it's a little incorrect but it doesn't matter)

With Slovac ending your name will be Симонка, with Russian Симоночка.)))

the_GoDdEsS
09-23-2006, 02:18 PM
Oh, I know! I used to teach all those things to 6 year old children. I started learning late when I was 14. Until then I only knew what I learnt from songs.

Таня is very pretty. Татьяна would be Tatyana? We have a name that goes Tatiana. In Slovak short for it would be Tňa, too.

Hehe, Симоночка is funny! I like.

Rocky-girl
09-23-2006, 02:23 PM
I translate like Tatiana. If you like Симоночка I'll call you in this way) Simonochka, what is your father's name?

the_GoDdEsS
09-23-2006, 02:26 PM
Of course you can call me that. It's kinda nice too. What do you like best to be called?

Rocky-girl
09-23-2006, 02:29 PM
It really doesn't matter for me! DO you have such thing as otchestvo? (mm I think it's second name, given to you depending on father's first name)

the_GoDdEsS
09-23-2006, 02:31 PM
No, we do not have otchestvo. But I know about it that you have it in Russia. It's a nice thing.

Rocky-girl
09-23-2006, 02:36 PM
If you want I can tell you your otchestvo if you tell me your father's first name. Or put

the_GoDdEsS
09-23-2006, 02:40 PM
It's Milan. Do you add -ovna to it? If I am right. What is yours?

Rocky-girl
09-23-2006, 02:44 PM
Yes, ovna, but there is evna for names that end on mild letter. Like name Aleksei. I'm Tatiana Alexandrovna. It's too long!
SOmetimes I think we have so strange little names to the full name!

the_GoDdEsS
09-23-2006, 02:48 PM
Oh, I understand. And it does not seem too long. But of course the -ovna makes the second name kinda longer. I just remembered, does anyone call you Tatianochka?

Rocky-girl
09-23-2006, 02:52 PM
Sometimes my mother does. I really like it.

SOmetimes I think if I were american, what short name I would have. Everybody here call you Sim, I would be Tan???

the_GoDdEsS
09-23-2006, 02:55 PM
Hahaha! Tan sounds a bit funny. Imagine people called you Tan. I don't know why everyone calls me Sim, it kind of got normal here and I grew to like it. In my life not many people call me that. I'm usually Simi to them and sometimes I love it when they use the full form.

Rocky-girl
09-23-2006, 03:01 PM

the_GoDdEsS

Boys have otchestvo too? Only ending in -ich? And what is new in Moscow? I think fischer is from there too but I am not sure.

fischer
09-24-2006, 07:00 AM
Yes, boys have too. My name is Alexander. For russians is Sasha, for foreign poeple I usually introduce Alex. I'm from Moscow and here is allways something new. But I can't talk like in chat cause I can't write about 10 letters an hour and sometimes I hate my computer and want to ignore it. That's fucking education! Sometimes I need to sit by computer a whole day to do informatics or something like that. Like today.

the_GoDdEsS
09-24-2006, 07:03 AM
Oh, we call our Alexanders and Alexandras Sasha too. Do you have to do informatics for school/university? Programming?

fischer
09-24-2006, 07:11 AM
for university. It is not programming finally, but I need to write some programs to do it.

Lenin
09-24-2006, 09:02 AM
What university do you study in?

Rocky-girl
09-24-2006, 09:31 AM

Simonochka, please write here name Sasha in Slovac.

the_GoDdEsS
09-24-2006, 09:33 AM
Then give us the name of your uni in Russian?

Of course. It's Alexandra for female and Alexander for male. Frequently we use the short the form which is Saa, Saka, Sainka, Saenka.

Yes, it is a Western Slavic language and closest to Czech. We understand each other without any problems. Then comes Polish. It's quite similar to Southern Slavic languages. I understand some Russian when I read or when people speak slowly. This is what's great about Slavic languages and I like to compare and try to understand.

Rocky-girl
09-29-2006, 05:32 AM
Oh, that's ok, you can ask all you want, because I'm curious too). I like Moscow very much, it's big city and there is life even in the nights. It's very beautiful here in the nights because almost all buildings are lighted. Now here are a lot of tourists and foreigners and illegal immigrants too. As you know I don't like it. People here are very busy, reserved, agressive. You can hardly meet one person two times, if you are not friends. Is it similiar to Slovakia?

the_GoDdEsS
09-29-2006, 05:51 AM
What kind of immigrants do you have? And do they live in the city or on the outside parts of it? Do you have homeless people in the streets?

With Slovakia it depends on where you go. In Bratislava the people might be a little like what you said, reserved and busy and they do not care about others so much. It is more anonymous. In other parts of the country people are very friendly, hospitable and will always help you with everything or when others are in need.

And you usually meet the same people more times because it is small. Sometimes we say Bratislava is like a big village but the people who are from there do not like to hear it.

I read Snegurochka today, such a sad story.

Rocky-girl
09-29-2006, 07:33 AM
Yes, we also say that Moscow is a big village! And yes you're a right it all depends on where you go. I know it for sure that in Ekaterinburg people are kind and friendly, but that town is far away from here!
Immigrants from Soviet republics, Armenia, Azerbaijan, China, Korea. They live everywhere! They who are rich live in city, other in region. Soon here won't be Russian person. Yes, there are homeless people in the streets here.

I think you'd better read Sister Alyonushka And Her Brother Ivanushka. It isn't so sad.

the_GoDdEsS
09-29-2006, 08:02 AM
Are people different in your town than those in Moscow? All of your cities are so far, such big country. I imagine immigrants can be bad, luckily we don't really have them really. They are not interested in coming here. Do you think there are not so many Russian people? Or that they don't have many children?

Thank you for the recommendation! I will look for it.

fischer

Rocky-girl
09-29-2006, 12:15 PM
yes, I partly agree with you, but it won't stop innigration from another countries.
Simonochka, people in my town are the same as in Moscow, to find kind and friendly people you should go far away from capital. They who came here have another style of life. YOu could hardly find here a russian family with 3 children. But family of immigrants are very large, there are 3 or more children. And if they have moved here they bring here all their family with uncles and aunts, sisters and brothers.
I can give you this fairy tale. I have it in English.

I think it won't be so bad if I'll put it here. Like every story it has a lot of styles of telling it's one of them.

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, a brother and sister walked together down a long road. The sister's name was Alyonushka, and her brother was called Ivanushka. The two had been walking a long time when they came to a cow's hoof filled with water.
"May I drink form it sister?" little Ivanushka asked.
"No, or you will turn into a calf," Alyonushka answered. Little Ivanushka was very thirsty, but obeyed his sister. He obeyed her again when they came to a horse's hoof filled with water. Alyonushka told him that if he drank from it, he would turn into a foal. The brother and sister walked along further, and Ivanushka became increasingly thirsty. Then they came upon a goat's hoof filled with water.
"May I drink from it?" Ivanushka asked.
Alyonushka once again was firm.
"No, if you do you will turn into a goat." But this time the boy disobeyed his sister, and upon his first sip turned into a little goat.

Alyonushka sat on the rode crying when a merchant drove by and inquired about her trouble. Alyonushka explained the situation to him, and he said that if she married him they could live happily with the goat. Alyonushka agreed, and so they lived happily this way for some time.

Then one day an evil witch tricked Alyonushka into going down to the river, where she tied a stone around her neck and threw her in. The witch then took on Alyonushka's form and lived as her for awhile. Only poor Ivanushka knew the truth about his sister. Little did he know that the witch had plans for him, too. When witch overheard him one day talking to his sister in the lake, she decided to ask the merchant to kill the little goat.

It was hard for the merchant to agree to kill Ivanushka, as he loved the goat like a person. But, being deceived by the witch, he felt his wife's wishes to be the most important. Ivanushka asked the merchant if he could go to the river for one last drink before he died, and the merchant agreed.

There at the river's edge the goat cried out to his sister, and she answered him that she couldn't help him with a stone tied around her neck. Neither the brother nor sister realized that this time a peasant had overheard their conversation, and was on his way to stop the merchant from killing Ivanushka.

Upon hearing the peasant's story, the merchant ran to the river, found Alyonushka, and took the stone from around her neck.

The witch was then tied to a horse, which was turned loose in an open field. The little goat was so happy that he turned three somersaults, and was changed back into a boy.

They lived happily ever after.

That's all.

haha, totally absurd ending. Otherwise good.

haha, don't be so insecure. I'm just kidding if you didn't notice. And it was not necessary to edit your post because it has already been quoted by me.

I liked the somersaults part in the ending. And yes, very sudden, maybe absurd.

There was nothing wrong with the question.

The Turnip

One day Grandfather planted a turnip. The turnip grew and grew till it was very, very big.
Grandfather went to pluck it. He pulled and he pulled but he could not pull it out.
So he called Grandmother.

Grandmother took hold of Grandfather, and Grandfather took hold of the turnip, and they pulled and they pulled but they could not pull it out.
So Grandmother called Granddaughter.

Granddaughter took hold of Grandmother, Grandmother took hold of Grandfather, Grandfather took hold of the turnip, and they pulled and they pulled but they could not pull it out, So Granddaughter called Dog.

Dog took hold of Granddaughter, Granddaughter took hold of Grandmother, Grandmother took hold of Grandfather, Grandfather took hold of the turnip, and they pulled and they pulled but they could not pull it out.
So Dog called Cat.

Cat took hold of Dog, Dog took hold of Granddaughter, Granddaughter took hold of Grandmother, Grandmother took hold of Grandfather, Grandfather took hold of the turnip, and they pulled and they pulled but they could not pull it out.
So Cat called Mouse.

Mouse took hold of Cat, Cat took hold of Dog, Dog took hold of Granddaughter, Granddaughter took hold of Old Woman, Grandmother took hold of Grandfather, Grandfather took hold of the turnip, and they pulled and they pulled till at last. . . OUT IT CAME!

I don't have Po schuchemu veleniyu, Kolobok and Kurochka Ryaba((( but I can write it by myself!

Then another one:

MASHA AND THE BEAR

Once upon a time there lived a Grandfather and Grandmother,
and with them was their little grandaughter Masha.

Masha wanted to go into the forest to gather mushrooms.
"Go little grandaughter, only don't get lost!" they said.
Masha walked and walked about the forest and got lost.
Suddenly she saw it, an izba! (a little wooden house)
The little girl went into the izba, but no one was there.
"Who lives here?" "Where is the owner?" she called.
But in that izba lived a big bear!!

In the evening he returned home, saw Masha and was so happy!
"You will live with me now."
"You will stoke my stove,"
"You will make my porridge,"
"You will feed me porridge,"
"I will never let you go!"

Masha began living in the bear's izba.
In the morning the bear went to gather food in the forest.
"You don't go anywhere!"he said.
"And if you run away, I will catch you, and eat you up!"

Masha began to think, how could she get away from the bear?
The forest was all around, and she didn't know the way home.
Masha thought and thought and thought some more.

She baked some pies and put them in a great big basket.
"Bear, please let me have a day off so I can go into the village." she said.
"I want to take these pies to Grandmother and Grandfather."
"No, I will take the pies myself" said the bear.
"On the way, don't open the basket," warned Masha.
"Don't eat the pies,"
"I will be in a tall tree in the forest,"
"I will see everything you do!"
"alright." answered the bear.

Masha laid the pies in the basket.
"Go outside to look to see if it's raining." she told him.
The bear went outside, and Masha climbed into the basket.
She put the big plate with the pies on her head.
The bear came back in, picked up the basket and went to the village.

The bear walked and walked through the forest and got tired.
"I will sit on this stump and eat the pies." he said.
"I SEE YOU I SEE YOU!"
"Don't sit on the stump,"
"Don't eat the pies,"
"Take them to Grandmother,"
"Take them to Grandfather!" shouted Masha.

The bear looked up at the trees.
Masha is sitting high up in the tree, she sees everything! he thought.

The bear walked into the village.
"Open up quickly, I have brought pies to you from Masha!" he called.
The dog saw the bear and ran straight at him!
The bear was frightened, dropped the basket, and ran into the forest.

Grandfather and grandmother came out, opened the basket, and there was Masha!
Grandfather and grandmother rejoiced,
they began hugging and kissing Masha, and calling her a clever girl!

They can be very nice to read. We had one book with Slovak fairy tales in both English and Slovak at work. I sometimes used to sit down, read and smile at them when I had to wait for something. I decided I need to buy it.
